Laptop for Laurel

I spend a lot of time online or otherwise typing away on computers. I’ve written ~~hundreds~~ thousands of editions of ye olde TV picks on my trusty iBook, but I recently needed to replace it. I purchased a refurbished 15″ MacBook Pro at the end of January for $1699.00 + tax.

The Goal

If you’d like to show your support of my web work, including TVPicks.net, you can donate funds to the “Laptop for Laurel” campaign. I purchased the laptop using a credit card with deferred billing so I really need to find the money to pay it off by the end of May.

Status

As of December 11th at 4pm, I’ve received 15 donations to the tune of $280; which puts us $2220 away from the original goal of $2500. At this point, I’ve updated the goal to $1500 and the widget below should show you what kind of progress we’re making toward that goal.

Why It Matters

Thousands of you turn to my site each day to find out what’s on TV, but I only ever hear from a small percentage of you fine folks. To those of you who do write to me, make donations, post links, or send gifts: you rock my world and keep this site online. Thank you.

If you haven’t taken the time to write or haven’t found the spare cash to make a donation or send me a gift, that’s cool and I understand that you’re busy and it might not be possible. You’re also probably used to dealing with the many other sites out there on the net which are backed by a big company and/or they make plenty of money from ads or merchandise. There’s so much stuff out there, it’s easy to flit from one site to the next without thinking to stop and say “thank you” to those that make it happen.

This site is a small operation, I do 99% of the work myself and I don’t make even enough money with this site to cover my costs. (If anyone has ideas on how to make some money doing what I do, I’m happy to hear your ideas or get some help in that area. I tend to put almost all of my energy toward creating content for the site and then don’t find the time to figure out how to make a living at it or to at least break even).

Please take the time to support those little websites out there that make a difference in your life, even if that difference is just bringing a smile to your face once in a while. I hope you find this site useful and will consider showing your support for it this season, but mostly I want to encourage everyone to stop and say “thank you” to those out there who provide content or services that they enjoy.
