FAQ
Is there a key for the colors on your grid?
There are keys on the schedule grid pages where needed.
The schedule grids for my picks for 1999 through most of 2006 have had different looks and colors; I always try to make it obvious what is what (so there shouldn’t be a need for a key). In general, if there is no small text after a show that says “Rerun” or anything else, assume it’s a new episode.
Current scheme for schedule grids within the picks:
| Key | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| New Episodes | Reruns | Special Episodes Premieres, finales, etc. | Local programming or not covered |
What’s up with the times? What timezone are you in?
I’m in the Central time zone and when I started posted my picks I found it easiest to always state the times for the Central time zone.
The TV picks themselves are written with times for the Central time zone, but there’s now a handy little gadget in the sidebar where you can click to select your timezone and the page to change to show the zone you requested. This requires javascript so if it’s not working for you, that might be the problem.
If you receive the picks via email or read on the feed, you’ll see the picks for the Central Timezone. Just add an hour for Eastern zone (which is what most people are used to). Or click on through to the website where you can adjust things.
Are the picks posted at a regular time each day?
I’ve not been as consistent with this as I’d like over the years. They’ve usually been posted by Noon on the day they’re for; sometimes much earlier (not long after midnight or by early morning), occasionally later (though I’ve been pretty good at avoiding that). If you want to know when the picks are posted, there are a number of ways to find out listed on the Subscribe page.
The font you’re using is too small– help!
At the top of the page, on the right hand side, you should see the word “Text” followed by two yellow buttons with the letter “A” on them. Click on the first one to make the font size on the page bigger, click on the second one to make the font size smaller. You can click on either button multiple times to make things even bigger (or smaller).
This font switching option will only work if you allow your web browser to use javascript (it is possible to turn it off in many browsers).
If you’re still having trouble seeing things on the site, you can always subscribe to the picks and receive them via email or as a feed in your feed reader of choice. Or just go and look at feed directly.
Where do you get your information?
Mostly from press releases and other info sources provided by networks and studios. I don’t speculate or post a news item if it hasn’t been confirmed by an official source.
Do you get to see some shows in advance?
Yes, once again thanks to networks and studios. I’ll sometimes receive review copies (a.k.a. screeners) of shows or specials in advance and when I do, I try to cover those things a bit more. I also try to make it clear in my picks if I’m talking about something I’ve seen (as opposed to something I just know about from TV listings and press releases).
