About This Site
Laurel Krahn has been regularly posting her TV picks on the web since early 1999 (she posted picks occasionally starting in 1994). Her picks were originally part of her personal website and her weblog (which was among the first 30 weblogs in existence), but in March 1999 she spun her TV picks off onto their own separate page. At first the picks were located at www.windowseat.org/tv/ and sometimes referred to as “Windowseat TV,” but later on Laurel registered the domain name www.tvpicks.net which is where they live today.
Laurel has been posting her thoughts online since the mid 1980s, frequently talking about all things pop culture with a special emphasis on television. Her writing about television has appeared on the websites TeeVee, TV Barn, and in Professor Barnhardt’s Journal; she’s been interviewed for articles which appeared in the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Sioux Falls Argus Leader, and other publications (to be honest, she’s lost track of them all). TVPicks.net was the Pick of the Day on Yahoo! on May 25, 2004; the site has been linked to by many weblogs and other online publications.
TVPicks.net was featured in the “Best of 2007″ issue of Entertainment Weekly in a list of TV websites; this site was also mentioned in the January 2007 issue of Mpls St. Paul magazine.
From Fall 2005 ’til Fall 2006 Laurel talked TV almost every Thursday on FM 107.1 in the Twin Cities on the Kevyn & Colleen Show; she’s been known to talk TV occasionally on other radio shows as well, including on WCCO AM 830 in the Twin Cities. She’s participated in panel discussions about television at quite a few science fiction conventions and she’s always happy to talk TV with just about anyone.
Laurel lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband Kevin G. Austin and her insane cat posse. Kevin and Laurel were married at the Metrodome on September 17th, 2005 before a Twins-White Sox game (yes, really). They’re both Twins fans and science fiction fans who have been hanging out online for more than twenty years now. You can find contact information and links to most of Laurel’s online projects at laurelkrahn.net.
