Primetime
Season premiere of Bones (FOX, 7pm). Tonight’s season premiere picks up six weeks after the events of last season’s finale (wherein Booth had brain surgery). Brennan has been away on a dig, Booth has been recovering. Cyndi Lauper guest stars as a psychic. Booth is cleared to return back to work, but may not really be fully recovered. I like this show a lot and am happy it returns tonight.
Mystic Falls prepares for a festival to celebrate the passing of a comet on a new Vampire Diaries (CW, 7pm). And there’s a bunch of drama in this teen/vampire nighttime soap.
The castaways arrive in Samoa and are divided into tribes on the season premiere of Survivor (CBS, 7pm).
Pink is featured on a new Behind the Music (VH1, 7pm and midnight; airs again on Friday at 8pm).
In an effort to promote the local zoo, Leslie arranges for a penguin wedding on the season premiere of Parks & Recreation (NBC, 7:30pm).
Olivia returns to reality and Peter pursues information about where she went; meanwhile, Walter returns to the lab in the season premiere of Fringe (FOX, 8pm).
Michael feels left out when everyone else is gossiping about summer interns on the season premiere of The Office (NBC, 8pm). So of course he looks for a bit of juicy gossip that he can share.
Castiel goes in search of God, Bobby’s friend Rufus asks Sam and Dean for help because demons are attacking his town on Supernatural (CW, 8pm).
Series premiere of Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm; also on Saturday at 6pm). Jeff Corwin is in Thailand for the premiere episode.
Paula Abdul hosts VH1 Divas (VH1, 8pm, 10pm; also on Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 7pm). With performaces by Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, and Miley Cyrus. None of them seem like Divas to me, but what do I know?
New episode of Skins (BBC America, 8pm, 11pm, 1am).
New episode of of House Hunters (HGTV, 8pm and midnight).
A lawyer is sent back to school and winds up at a quirky community college in the series premiere of Community (NBC, 8:30pm). Joel McHale (of The Soup) stars; his co-stars include Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, and Ken Jeong. You can find out more on the website for the show. This show is from folks who have worked on Arrested Development, The Sarah Silverman Show, and The Soloist. I thought the first episode showed potential and not just because of all the references to The Breakfast Club.
“The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis” in the season premiere of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX, 9pm – 9:30pm, 10:04pm – 11:07pm; also on Saturday at 10:30pm). Frank, Mac, and Dennis try their hand at real estate; Dee arranges to be a surrogate mother for a wealthy couple, and Charlie faces off with a lawyer. Yes, it’s more politically incorrect comedy. If you’ve liked the show so far, you’ll probably like this season as well.
New episode of Project Runway (Lifetime, 9pm, 10:30pm, midnight).
Kat dyes her hair blonde and gets a tattoo of Johnette Napolitano (of Concrete Blonde) and Aubry plays hooky on a new L.A. Ink (TLC, 9pm and 11pm).
“Carnival Pride” and marimba cake on a new Ace of Cakes (Food Network, 9pm and midnight).
Halle Berry, Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers perform with Eric Clapton on The Jay Leno Show (NBC, 9pm).
New episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta (Bravo, 9pm, 10pm, 11:30pm).
Late Night
Former President Bill Clinton on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Frank Bruni on The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).
