News & Notes

Twentieth Century Fox TV announced that they’ve ordered 26 new half-hour episodes of Futurama. Yay! They’ll air on Comedy Central, and there’s still a chance that a broadcast network might pick up the episodes.

ABC has moved The Goode Family from Wednesday nights to Friday nights.

Showtime has already picked up Nurse Jackie for a second season.

Turner Classic Movies continues their “Great Directors” series with films by Preston Sturges including The Lady Eve (TCM, 7pm), Sullivan’s Travels (TCM, 9pm), The Palm Beach Story (TCM, 11pm), The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek (TCM, 1am), and The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (TCM, 3am). It looks like there are some short films included tonight as well. For full details and a full schedule, check out the TCM website.

Automatic weapons, throwing knives, and tricks with fire are the items looked at in slow motion on a new Time Warp (Discovery, 7pm and 10pm).

Will a sonic shock wave shatter glass? Can the path of bullets bend around obstacles? Find out on a new MythBusters (Discovery Channel, 8pm and 11pm).

Mitch Pileggi (of The X-Files), Faith Ford (of Hope & Faith, Murphy Brown), and Gina Torres (of Firefly) guest star in an excellent rerun of Criminal Minds (CBS, 8pm). This episode originally aired on December 17th so it’s possible some folks may have missed it due to its proximity to holidays. A normal guy starts shooting women in their cars on highways.

Investigation of reports from India of a half-man, half-ape creature they call “monkey man” on a new MonsterQuest (History Channel, 8pm and midnight).

German chocolate cake is the subject of a new Throwdown with Bobby Flay (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).

New Dog the Bounty Hunter (A&E, 8pm and midnight).

New episodes of Kitchen Impossible (DIY, 8pm and midnight), Renovation Realities (DIY, 8:30pm and 12:30am), and Sweat Equity (DIY, 9pm and 1am).

Walsh and Shraeger investigate the murder of a nudist, the others search for the person who has been stealing tapes from an apology line service on a new episode of The Unusuals (ABC, 9:01pm).

Series premiere of Top Chef Masters (Bravo, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 1am; with additional airings this weekend). World class chefs compete on this show which has the same format as Top Chef. You can find out more, including what chefs are participating, on the official website for the show.

If you haven’t seen season one of Leverage or missed some episodes from the first season, TNT is rebroadcasting the series premiere of Leverage tonight (TNT, 9pm). The second episode will air next Wednesday at 9pm. Timothy Hutton, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf, Aldis Hodge, and Gina Bellman star in this fun series about thieves and con artists who right wrongs. There’s still time to catch up with the show before it returns with a second season of new episodes on July 15th.

Two new episodes of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns (TBS, 9pm, 9:30pm).

New episode of Pitchmen (Discovery Channel, 9pm and midnight; also on Sunday at 10am).

New episodes of Tattoo Highway (A&E, 9pm and 1am, 9:30pm and 1:30am).
