News & Notes
Today CBS announced their schedule for Fall 2009; I’ve updated my Fall 2009 Schedule Grid to include info from CBS. The grid now covers CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX; the CW will announce their schedule tomorrow.
NBC canceled Medium, but there’s good news: CBS has picked up the show and will air it on Friday nights at 8pm starting this Fall.
Shows that have been canceled thus far this week include a bunch of shows I like: The Unit, Life, Without a Trace, My Name Is Earl, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Samantha Who, and Eleventh Hour. Ugh! I’m especially going to miss The Unit; I also felt The Sarah Connor Chronicles was finally getting good. I’ll miss Life, Without a Trace, and My Name Is Earl a lot too. There’s a slim chance that Earl could be picked up by another network as it’s being shopped around. Full list of shows that have been canceled is available on the Fall 2009 grid page.
I put together a Summer 2009 Schedule Grid since a few people asked for one. Still probably needs some tweaking, but it’s a start.
A few people sent me some nice comments yesterday; a couple also sent donations. You guys rock! Thanks so much. This is a hectic week for me, which involves a ton of work.
The Amazon Deal of the Day is on Big Love – The Complete First Two Seasons for $51; it’s a bundle with the seasons one and two Big Love DVD sets. This deal is good today only, while supplies last. Yesterday Amazon was selling this bundle for $84 or so. They’re doing TV deals all week and have had some good TV DVD sets as “lightning deals” each day in addition to the Gold Box deal.

It’s time for Richard and New Christine’s wedding; Old Christine has an encounter with New Christine’s Dad (played by guest star Scott Bakula) on the season finale of The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 7pm). Constance Zimmer and James Lesure also guest star. CBS has renewed this show for another season, it should air some this summer and next Fall in this same timeslot.
127-minute season finale of American Idol (FOX, 7pm – 9:07pm). DVR/VCR Alert: It’s possible the show will run longer than the schedule time.
Gary stops by to fix Allison’s garbage disposal, but this somehow leads them to the bedroom in the season finale of Gary Unmarried (CBS, 7:30pm). Kevin Sorbo is among the guest stars. CBS has picked up this show for another season, it will remain in this timeslot.
Rate My Space (HGTV, 7:30pm and 11:30pm).
Special two-hour season finale of Criminal Minds (CBS, 8pm – 10pm). It’s listed in some places as two separate episodes; the first is titled “To Hell . . . ” and was written by Chris Mundy; the second is titled “. . . And Back” and was written and directed by Edward Allen Bernero. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the case involves a serial killer.
The team tackles the myth of a skydiver hitting a playground seesaw and sending a small girl flying seven stories into the air on MythBusters (Discovery Channel, 8pm and 11pm).
Detectives Lupo and Bernard investigate the murders of three homeless men which they think may have been committed by the same killer on a new Law & Order (NBC, 9pm). Law & Order will be back next season; it’s currently scheduled to air on Fridays at 7pm.
New episode of Pitchmen (Discovery Channel, 9pm and midnight; also on Sunday at 10am).
New episode of Make Me a Supermodel (Bravo, 9pm, 10pm).
New episode of Reno 911! (Comedy Central, 9:30pm and 11:30pm).
Late Night
Elizabeth Edwards on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Seth Shostak on The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am). Shostak is very cool; he was our Science Guest of Honor at Minicon 44 in April and was fabulous.
Stephen Colbert, General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, Grizzly Bear on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Bill Maher, Adam Richman, Mandy Moore on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).
Guy Pearce, Hattie Hayridge, Hensley on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:35pm).
Bryce Dallas Howard, Dierks Bentley on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35pm).
Ben Stiller, the winner of Dancing with the Stars, No Doubt on Jimmy Kimmel (ABC, check your local listings).
The Airborne Toxic Event on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

According to NBC’s web site, tonight’s SVU is a new episode.

That’s weird. Their website is wrong unless they’ve made a change and haven’t sent the update out to folks who put together listings for grids and whatnot. The listings data on their press site and which they send out to TV guides all over says it’s the episode “Retro” which aired first back in October.
Law & Order is new, but the episodes of CI and SVU are reruns. Well, the Criminal Intent episode might be new to anyone who doesn’t watch the show on USA.

The site says it’s the “Retro” episode, but it also says “all new” so it’s odd on a number of levels. :-)
