News & Notes

Still trying to get back in the swing of things after being mostly offline for the last couple of weeks. Behind on email, among other things. Hope to be caught up by the end of this week.

Just a reminder that if you buy stuff from the Apple Store or from iTunes, a percentage of what you pay will go to TVPicks.net if you start your shopping trip by using the button links in the sidebar at TVPicks.net. I mention it since some new Apple products were announced today. Thanks, as always, to everyone who shops via the links here as a way of supporting this site.

Primetime

McGee is held captive in a women’s prison after a guard’s murder on a new NCIS (CBS, 7pm). The team investigates the death of the guard and tries to help McGee (of course). Robert Wisdom, who was “Bunny Colvin” on The Wire guest stars as the prison warden. Stephanie Niznik, who was “Nina” on Everwood, also guest stars.

Annie overhears a phone call that makes her suspicious of her new brother, Adrianna learns some info that will “change her life forever,” and Dixon spends more time with a girl that isn’t Silver on a new 90210 (CW, 7pm; also tomorrow at 8pm). It looks like the CW will be airing episodes of 90210 twice a week for a while again; this episode will be rebroadcast tomorrow night at 8pm.

Series premiere of Homeland Security USA (ABC, 7pm). It’s a new series that follows homeland security and agencies involved with it. You can find out more about the show the official website for it.

New episode of National Body Challenge (Discovery Health Channel, 7pm and 10pm). If you missed the first episode last night, all episodes of this show (that airs each night this week) air again this Saturday starting at 9am. You can read more about the National Body Challenge on the DHC website. You can participate for free.

A convicted murderer promises Patrick Jane new information about Red John if he’ll help him secure his release from prison in this new episode of The Mentalist (CBS, 8pm). Oh-oh.

Megan finally confronts her mother and tells her how she really feels in this new episode of Privileged (CW, 8pm). Sharon Lawrence continues her guest stint on the show as Megan’s Mom. Rose contrives a charity event as an excuse for Sage to spend more time with Luis. And we finally see Marco’s boyfriend. Plus Charlie decides to go back to school. And there’s even more drama, too.

The season premiere of Scrubs (ABC, 8pm) is followed by another new episode (ABC, 8:30pm). The show has moved from NBC to ABC for this season and so far it seems ABC has promoted the show more than NBC ever did. Courtney Cox (of Dirt, Friends) guest stars as Dr. Kelso’s replacement. In the second episode, J.D. and Turk give up a tradition to comfort a dying patient and then get all sentimental about it. These episodes will air again tomorrow at 7pm and 7:30pm on ABC. Also, as with most ABC shows, episodes of Scrubs will be available on ABC.com the day after they air.

“Bologna Maker” is the job on a new Dirty Jobs (Discovery, 8pm and midnight).

A look at the threat to Earth from an asteroid collision and how experts are trying to avert Armageddon (from something like an asteroid collision, that is) in a new episode of The Universe (History Channel, 8pm and midnight).

New episode of Man Caves (DIY, 8pm and midnight).

The team goes after an adoption agency that is scamming couples in this new episode of Leverage (TNT, 9pm and 11pm; also on Saturday at 11am). I’m still enjoying this show about a team of crooks who is going after bad guys, but then I enjoy shows about heists and con jobs.

A 13-year-old girl disappears after her Mom picks her up from school in this new episode of Without a Trace (CBS, 9pm). Guest stars include Kathleen Wilhoite and Maggie Wheeler. This episode is directed by series regular Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

A teenage girl miraculously returns home after being missing for four years in this new episode of Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm). Ellen Woglom, Natalia Payne, and Kate Baldwin are among the guest stars.

Sean’s having a tough time of it after the events of the attack and Christian gets some troubling news in the winter premiere of Nip/Tuck (FX, 9pm, 10:04pm; also on Friday at 10pm). DVR/VCR Alert: This episode has a running time of 64 minutes.

Leonard Nimoy is the guest on a new Shatner’s Raw Nerve (Biography Channel, 9pm and 1am). Star Trek fans can’t miss this one, can they? I saw Shatner and Nimoy at a Star Trek convention together once and the interaction between them was great. (Yes, I’m a big enough geek that I once attended Star Trek cons.)

Series premiere of Wreckreation Nation with Dave Mordal (Discovery Channel, 9pm and 1am). The first episode features the U.S. Lawn Mower Championships and alligator wrestling school. You can find out more about this new show on the website about it.

Season premiere of Primetime: What Would You Do? (ABC, 9pm).

New episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County (Bravo, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 1am).

Late Night

Todd recruits Leslie to compete with him at turkey bowling in the season premiere of 10 Items or Less (TBS, 10pm and 1am; also on Friday at 10:25pm).

Michael Wolff on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Matt Miller on The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Kevin James, Rebecca Quick, Erin McCarley on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Queen Latifah, Adam Carolla, Pussycat Dolls on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Ted Danson (of Damages), Pauley Perrette (who plays “Abby” on NCIS) on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Kate Hudson, Tim Daly, Bang Camaro on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Mike Birbiglia on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

Quincy Jones, Little Joy on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
