News & Notes

The Sci-Fi Channel has ordered 20 hours of the Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica. The show is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica which is set 50 years before that series and follows the Adama and Graystone families. The show will debut sometime in 2010. The series is from Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, and Remi Aubuchon. Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson, and Polly Walker are set to star in it.

CBS has ordered five more episodes of Eleventh Hour. So they’ve ordered a total of 18 episodes so far for the show’s first season.

Amazon has a new Terrific TV Sale on DVD sets including seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, The Muppet Show, Ugly Betty, Eli Stone, Scrubs, Brothers & Sisters, Private Practice, Alias, Kyle XY, Dirt, Golden Girls, and some other shows for 40% – 50% off.

Amazon’s “TV Holi-Daily Deal” is on Dirty Sexy Money: Season One for just $20. It’s really a fun DVD set for a season of a show that I enjoyed a lot. Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland star. Amazon is doing daily specials on TV DVD sets from now through December 16th. The TV Holi-Daily Deal page has clues to upcoming deals.

The Black Friday TV DVD Sale is still going at Amazon and there are tons of good deals. I singled out some recently here and on the TV on DVD page, but there are too many for me to list. If there’s a set you’re interested in, you may want to search and see if it’s discounted right now. Television Central is the page to go to for all things TV on DVD at Amazon; they’re adding new sales all the time.

When you guys shop at Amazon via the search box or links at TVPicks.net, it really can make a difference. I may just get $1 or less when you buy some items, but it adds up. And someone recently purchased a TV from Amazon which meant a nice chunk of change is coming my way to help keep this site online. Thanks so much to that person and to everyone else who does their shopping via the links here!

And thanks again to those of you who make donations in support of the site or who send me things from my wishlist. Thanks to everyone who links to the site or tells their friends about it. And thanks to those of you who take the time to write to me. Without your efforts, I might have given up on this site years ago.

College basketball on ESPN and ESPN2: Ohio State at Miami (ESPN, 6pm), Clemson at Illinois (ESPN2, 6:30pm), Duke at Purdue (ESPN, 8pm), and Virginia at Minnesota (ESPN2, 8:30pm).

A fitness trainer collapses while shooting an infomercial on House (FOX, 7pm). The team treats her, of course. Thirteen begins participating in a clinical trial, Kutner sets up some sort of clinic, and Cuddy shares an office with House while hers is being repaired. Oh-oh. Guest stars include Brad Grunberg (of Little Britain USA) and Lori Petty. Brad Grunberg is brother of Greg Grunberg (of Heroes, Alias, Felicity). It seems like House is running a little longer than my TiVo thinks it is; if you want to record the full episode, you might want to be sure to pad your recording by a couple of minutes. FOX lists the episode as running from 7pm ’til 8:01pm but in my experience there’s usually a little bit that airs after 8:01pm.

The team investigates the death of a petty officer in a car crash on NCIS (CBS, 7pm). Tracy Scoggins and Antonio Sabato Jr. guest star.

Tyra Banks and Christian Siriano appear on The Biggest Loser: Families (NBC, 7pm) as does Tabatha of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. Competitors appear on The Tyra Banks Show within this episode and on Tyra’s show tomorrow (syndicated, check your local listings).

Rerun of the “Hollywood Forever” episode of 90210 (CW, 7pm). There’s a drug bust and also Silver’s half birthday party at a cemetary in this episode. Was an okay episode. The next new episode doesn’t air until January 6th.

Ryan: “You wanna tell us a little something about yourself, Kimberly?”
Kimberly: “Well, why don’t you just take whatever the old new girl said about herself and just make it better.”
Ryan: “Well, that’s tough, because the old new girl is from Kansas, and it just doesn’t get any better than that.”
Annie: “There’s no place like home.”

Laurel is reunited with Miles, Rose is grounded, Megan tries to sort things out with Will about his possible job in Brazil in this rerun of Privileged (CW, 8pm) which debuted last night. “Maggot Farmer” is the job on a new Dirty Jobs (Discovery, 8pm and midnight).

The team searches for a doctor who goes missing on Without a Trace (CBS, 9pm). David Gallagher is among the guest stars.

A rape case involving a young female Marine stirs up some bad memories for Olivia on Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm). The episode is titled “PTSD” and I imagine this will be one Mariska Hargitay submits for award consideration. Frank Whaley is among the guest stars.

Series premiere of Shatner’s Raw Nerve (Biography, 9pm and 1am) which is followed by a second new episode (Biography, 9:30pm and 1:30am).
