New REAL Sports with Bryant Gumbel (HBO, 9pm)
New How to Look Good Naked (Lifetime, 9pm)

News & Notes

If you’re a fan of Flashpoint, you’ll be pleased to hear that CTV has ordered a second season of the show. No word yet on if CBS will choose to air season two, I’ll let you know if I hear anything on that score. In case you weren’t aware, the series is Canadian. It’s the first Canadian series since Due South to air in primetime in both Canada and the US.

I’m still working on getting everything in working order after a software upgrade. The timezone switcher gizmo is temporarily offline, so remember that by default times here are for the Central timezone (for the more standard Eastern timezone, just add an hour). Should have it back online tonight or tomorrow.

It does look like notifications via email and twitter did go out yesterday, though the emails went out a bit later than they should’ve. Please tell me if things are broken.

Amazon’s TV DVD Deal of the Week is on Band of Brothers for $45. Their Gold Box “Deal of the Day” for today is Heroes – Season One for $30 (available at that price today only, while supplies last). Some excellent deals I’ve spotted there recently: Everwood – The Complete First Season and Invasion – The Complete Series for $15 each.

If you’re a Firefly fan (and who isn’t?) and you have a Blu-Ray player or plan to get one soon, you might be interested in pre-ordering Firefly – The Complete Series [Blu-ray].

Primetime

CSPAN, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, and other stations air coverage of the Democratic National Convention starting tonight. CSPAN starts their coverage at 4pm, CNN starts coverage at 5pm, MSNBC begins their coverage at 6pm, and PBS coverage starts at 7pm. ABC, CBS, and NBC have coverage at 9pm. There’s coverage all over the place.

The drama continues in this new episode of The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Family, 7pm and 11pm; also on Friday at 5pm). Have you been watching this show? What do you think of it? I’ve fallen way behind.

Series premiere of Gavin and Stacy (BBC America, 7:40pm, 10:40pm, 12:40am). DVR/VCR Alert: This comedy has a run time of 40 minutes. I’ve not had a chance to see this show, here’s what the BBC America press release has to say about it: “Gavin & Stacey, the double BAFTA award-winning comedy, tells an endearing story of true love and human relationships. Gavin is an ordinary boy from England, Stacey is an ordinary girl from Wales. The two are obsessed with each other, yet they’ve only ever spoken on the phone. They decide to make the journey to meet, but the peculiar personalities of their families and friends make it a rocky road to happiness.”

I don’t know much about tonight’s new episode of Eureka (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 11pm) except that may involve a curse and a mummy. The episode is titled “Show Me the Mummy”. If you missed last week’s new episode and you’re a fan of this show, you really should watch it first (it airs on Sci-Fi at 7pm).

Season premiere of Greek (ABC Family, 8pm, 9pm; also on Wednesday at 11pm).

New episode of Food Detectives (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).

Comics and spouses Kevin Nealon and Susan Yeagle host the new special World’s Funniest Commercials 2008 (TBS, 8pm and 10pm, also Saturday at 6pm). Olympic gold-medalist Scott Hamilton also makes an appearance. It’s a look at funny commercials from around the world. Fun if you like this sort of thing.

New episode of The First 48 (A&E, 8pm and midnight). This show covers the first 48 hours of the investigation after a crime is committed/reported. In this episode, officers in Detroit investigate a triple-shooting; in Dallas, a man is run down by a car.

New episode of It’s Not Easy Being Green (Sundance, 8pm; also on Friday at 9am and Sunday at 2pm). DVR/VCR Alert: This show has a runtime of 35 minutes.

New episode of The Stagers (HGTV, 8:30pm and 12:30am).

The Neelys are in Baltimore in this new episode of Road Tasted With the Neelys (Food Network, 8:30pm and 11:30pm).

Debut of a new episode of the excellent series REAL Sports with Bryant Gumbel (HBO, 9pm; check listings for additional airings). The topics are: betting on professional tennis leads to a scandal, Donald Trump plans to build a luxury golf resort in a small Scottish village, increasing ticket prices for professional sports events, and a profile of professional baseball player Josh Hamilton.

“Jennifer Morgan Ford longs to recapture the fun life she use to have with her husband before being a new mother” on a new How to Look Good Naked (Lifetime, 9pm; also airs on Friday at 8am). Carson Kressley (of Queer Eye) hosts this show that’s all about helping women become comfortable (and happy!) with their bodies as they are.

The final new five-minute “minisode” of Rescue Me (FX, 9pm) debuts on FX. At least of this bunch, it’s possible I suppose that they might do some others someday. These episodes are supposed to each stand alone and they are available online after they debut each Tuesday on FX; supposed to be available on Hulu, YouTube, MySpace, Crackle, and elsewhere.

William is strong-armed into searching for an FBI agent’s former partner in this new episode of The Cleaner (A&E, 9pm, 10pm, 1am, 2am).

New episode of Smash Lab (Discovery, 9pm).

Season premiere of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency (Oxygen, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 1am). Janice moves her agnecy to Beverly Hills.

A new episode of Evolve (History Channel, 9pm and 1am) covers “skin”.

New episode of From G’s to Gents (MTV, 9pm; also on Wednesday at 9am and 6pm).

Rebroadcasts of the new episode of Weeds (Showtime, 9pm, 9:30pm) that debuted last night.

Late Night

It’s possible that coverage of the Democratic National Convention might run long which might delay your local news and some late night talk shows.

Gov. Tim Kaine on a new The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight) from the Democratic National Convention.

Rep. Bob Barr on a new The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Bryan Clay, Don Cheadle, Little Anthony and the Imperials on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Norm MacDonald, Nastia Liukin, B.B. King on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

James McAvoy, Bengt Washburn on a rerun of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Vin Diesel, Dave Attell, the Virgins on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Don Rickles, Maurice Greene (of Dancing with the Stars), The Game on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

Kathy Griffin, Gavin DeGraw on a rerun of Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
