News & Notes
The Deal of the Day at Amazon today is on The Wire – Seasons 1-4 for just $96 which is a great deal given the individual sets will usually cost you $50 or more. One of my favorite series ever. The Wire – The Complete Fifth Season
is due out on August 12th and I’ll have a review of that set for you soon (it’s available for pre-order now for $39). Something to keep in mind: HBO plans to release a complete series set eventually.

“Cocoa” is the subject of a new How’d That Get on My Plate? (Food Network, 7:30pm and 2:30am).
Provenza’s car is stolen . . . with evidence in it from their case on a new episode of The Closer (TNT, 8pm and 11pm; also on Saturday at 9am and next Monday at 7pm). Yes, his job is on the line yet again. I actually love these episodes where the team has to pull together to save one of their own so I’m looking forward to this.
“Deep Freeze” is the title of a new episode of Unwrapped (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).
If you haven’t yet checked out Samantha Who? (ABC, 8pm, 8:30pm), now is a good time to give it a chance. ABC is rebroadcasting the first episode and another early episode tonight. Christina Applegate stars in this funny charming little comedy about a woman who gets amnesia. She returns to her old life and doesn’t much care for what she learns about the woman she used to be, so she sets out to be better. Jean Smart and Kevin Dunn play Samantha’s parents, Melissa McCarthy (who was “Sookie” on Gilmore Girls) and Jennifer Esposito are her two very different friends. Tim Russ (who was “Tuvok” on Star Trek: Voyager) is her doorman/friend and Barry Watson (of 7th Heaven et al) plays her ex-boyfriend.
Samantha: Essay Question: “Answer in complete sentences: If you could start over, rewind your life, do it all differently, what would you change, even if that change was hard and scary and might leave you more alone?”
from Samantha Who?
Rerun of the second ever episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm).
New episodes of of Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 8pm and 11pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm).
Kevin Sorbo (of Hercules, Andromeda) guest stars in this new episode of The Middleman (ABC Family, 9pm and 11pm). Sorbo plays a Middleman from 1969 who was cryogenically frozen. I’m obligated to mention that Kevin Sorbo grew up in the same town I did (Mound, Minnesota) and that the park I used to play in as a kid is now named “Sorbo Park”. I was just in Mound yesterday to visit my parents.
All I know about the new episode of Weeds (Showtime, 9pm, 10:05pm) is that it’s titled “Little Boats” and I can’t wait to see it.
Grace’s car is hit by a drunk driver and a large stash of money is found in the car on a new Saving Grace (TNT, 9pm and midnight; also Tuesday at 10pm). Plus Ham’s brother goes missing in Afghanistan. Yikes!
Baseball: Phillies at Dodgers (ESPN2, 9pm).
Rerun of the first episode of Californication (Showtime, 9:30pm, 10:35pm). David Duchovny stars in this series. I recently watched the whole first season and enjoyed it a lot, though it’s definitely only for mature audiences and not for everyone. DVR/VCR Alert: The first episode runs 35 minutes.

Just two questions. Was the Terminator Chronicles canceled?
Also, why don’t you have a link for asking questions?
Thank you !

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles was picked up for a second season; new episodes will start airing in the Fall. FOX recently resumed airing reruns of the show to drum up interest in it.
There’s a “Contact Laurel” link on every page on this site in the sidebar to the left where you can write to me. My email address is posted fairly often as well. Folks who receive the picks via email can reply to those emails to talk to me (or use the contact form on the website or email me directly). And, as you discovered, people can comment directly on posts here on the site too.
I’m always happy to receive feedback or answer questions.
