News & Notes

Fourth Street Fantasy Convention is this weekend in the Twin Cities; I highly recommend the convention if you’re interested in writing, fantasy (and science fiction), and stuff like that. If you’re a Shadow Unit fan you’ll also want to check it out. If you’re a reader and spot me there, don’t be shy about introducing yourself and saying hello (though be warned I’m a bit shy sometimes).

Soap Network has pre and post Emmy coverage.

Daytime

“Children of Divorce Reveal Their Secret Thoughts” in this rerun of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Primetime

Rerun of the Agatha Christie episode of Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 7pm). If you’re wondering what happened to Charlie Jade, the Sci-Fi Channel has pulled it from their Friday night lineup and moved it to (I kid you not) Sunday nights/Monday mornings at 2am. If you like the show, you might want to complain to the Sci-Fi Channel about this move. R.A. Porter wrote about the move and what it might mean for the Sci-Fi Channel over at Pop Critics.

New Dog Whisperer (National Geographic, 7pm and 10pm; also on Saturday at 10am).

Rachael visits Lake Tahoe on a new Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels (Food Network, 7:30pm and 2:30am).

Alex Kingston (of ER) guest stars in this first part of a two-part episode of Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 10pm). This two-parter is written by Steven Moffat, one of the best writers for the series, who will be taking over showrunning duties from Russell T. Davies next season. I’ve seen both parts of this (which already aired in the UK) and it’s pretty darn great. Especially like Kingston’s character who clearly is one of The Doctor’s companions, but from the future so he doesn’t know her yet.

The Doctor: “Ah! I’m thick! Look at me, I’m old and thick, head’s too full of stuff. I need a bigger head!”

“A young woman works with law enforcement after her imprisoned husband plots her murder; two women share information with detectives in hope of solving a series of crimes committed 30 years earlier” on Dateline NBC (NBC, 8pm – 10pm).

New episode of Meerkat Manor: The Next Generation (Animal Planet, 8pm, 11pm, 3am).

New What Not To Wear (TLC, 8pm and 11pm).

New Shockwave (History Channel, 9pm and 1am).

New Dr. G: Medical Examiner (Discovery Health Channel, 8pm and 11pm), with a rerun too (Discovery Health Channel, 9pm and midnight).

New episode of Best Week Ever (VH1, 8pm, 10pm, 1:30am; also on Saturday at 10am).

New Animal Cops South Africa (Animal Planet, 9pm and 2am).

New Ecoluxe (Travel Channel, 9pm and 1am).

New episode of The Soup (E!, 9pm and 11:30pm; also at 9am and 10pm on Saturday).

New 10 Years Younger (TLC, 9pm and midnight).

If you’re a fan of The Wire and/or all things David Simon or just are a fan of good TV, you may want to check out Making: Generation Kill (HBO, 9:45pm, with plenty of additional airings). It’s a forthcoming miniseries from David Simon on HBO about Marines in the first wave of U.S. assault on Baghdad. This is a look at the making of the series, I guess. The show will debut on HBO on July 13th. There’s already info about the show on the HBO website.

Late Night

The fourth ever episode of Criminal Minds (A&E, 10pm and 2am).

Rerun of House (USA, 10:pm).

Speed Grapher (IFC, 10pm and 1am).

My Parents’ House (HGTV, 10:30pm and 2:30am).

Basilisk (IFC, 10:30pm and 1:30am).

Denis Leary, the Baseball Project on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Bette Midler, Al Roker on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).

Don’t Miss: Jason Bateman (of Arrested Development, Masi Oka (of Heroes, the incredible (IMHO) Alejandro Escovedo on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Jeffrey Tambor, the Fratellis on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Regis Philbin, Sharon Osborne, Lil Wayne on Jimmy Kimmel (ABC, check your local listings).

Marisa Miller, Ben Harper on a rerun of Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Tonight TCM Underground does a double feature including The Apple (TCM, 1am), which you can read more about on the TCM Underground website.

The other TCM Underground feature is Roller Boogie (TCM, 2:45am, letterboxed) and there’s more information about it on that site as well.
