The first episode of Charlie Jade (Sci-Fi, 7pm) ended with an explosion– now what’s gonna happen in the second episode? We’ll just have to tune in tonight to find out, I guess. Oh alright– I’ll tell you that Charlie awakens in the Betaverse. This science fiction series was a joint production between South Africa (where it was filmed) and Canada. If you somehow missed the first episode, I’m sorry to say there aren’t any rebroadcasts schedule, but I know the episode (and the whole season) can be found on some internet file sharing services (like bittorrent). There’s more info about the show on the Sci-Fi Channel website.
After a town is hit by an F5 tornado, the community decides to rebuild energy efficient and as green as possible on Greensburg (Discovery, 7pm and 11pm).
The gang’s excitement about being on television subsides after the network makes major changes to the show on a new iCarly (Nick, 7pm and 10pm). It’s preceded and followed by a marathon of episodes of the show.
Children with unexplained symptoms and their parents want help on Mysterious Diagnosis (Discovery Health Channel, 7pm and 10pm; also on Saturday at 4pm).
Video premieres on F’n MTV Premieres (MTV, 7pm). They still show music videos? Awesome! (We’re all sick of that joke by now, aren’t we? And yet it’s so true.) Artists featured: Panic at the Disco, Flo Rida, The Ting Tings, and Snoop.
Rerun of the “My Pod: Vanilla” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 7pm and 2am).
A border collie is overprotective of his owner and a German shepherd is aggressive toward other dogs and people on a new Dog Whisperer (National Geographic, 7pm and 10pm; also on Saturday at 10am).
THS Investigates: Vegas Winners & Losers (E!, 7pm – 9pm; also on Saturday from 4pm – 6pm and Sunday from 2pm – 4pm).
Reed Diamond guest stars in this rerun of Ghost Whisperer (CBS, 7pm). Diamond played “Jack Vasser” (Dan’s brother) on Journeyman, he was “Mike Kellerman” on Homicide.
Rachael searches for “cheap eats” on a new Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels (Food Network, 7:30pm and 2:30am).
Fenella Woolgar (who was “Min” in Jekyll) guest stars as Agatha Christie in a new (to the U.S.) episode of Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 10pm). The Doctor and Donna spend time at a party at a manor in England in 1926 where they meet Agatha Christie– there is a murder, of course. Woolgar is excellent as Christie and I enjoyed this episode and its proposed explanation for Christie’s famous disappearance even if it was a bit silly in spots.
The Doctor: “I’d forgotten. You’re the expert.”
Agatha Christie: “I’m not, I told you! I’m just a . . . purveyor of nonsense.”
The Doctor: “No, no, no, no, no, no, no. ‘Cause plenty of people write detective stories but yours are the best. And why? Why are you so good, Agatha Christie? Because you understand. You’ve lived. You’ve fought and you’ve had your heart broken. You know about people. Their passions, their hope and despair and anger, all of those tiny huge things that can turn the most ordinary person into a killer. Just think, Agatha. If anyone can solve this, it’s you.”

More drama on a new Shockwave (History Channel, 9pm and 1am). A couple’s boat gets sucked under a dam in Austin, Texas; a helicopter crashes while landing on an aircraft carrier; a paraglider dangles from the Statue of Liberty’s torch; and a rocket car attempts to jump over the St. Lawrence Seaway. Awesome!
A 12-year-old boy is found dead with a karate belt wrapped around his neck, a Russian scientist collapses at lunch and dies on Dr. G: Medical Examiner (Discovery Health Channel, 8pm and 11pm), with a rerun too (Discovery Health Channel, 9pm and midnight).

The story involves spree killings by a couple; guest stars include Lou Diamond Phillips, Kim Dickens (of Deadwood), and David Gallagher (of 7th Heaven).
Alan: “Larry, I’m going to give you the same advice I give to all the geniuses I know.”
Larry: “Which is?”
Alan: “Don’t be an idiot.”

Summer finale of Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi, 9pm and 11:01pm; also on Sunday at 10:30pm). DVR/VCR Alert: This episode is scheduled to run one minute long; I recommend padding any recording you’re doing of the episode by at least a couple minutes (and maybe as much as 5 to be safe). The final ten episodes of this series will air sometime during the upcoming 2008-2009 season.
Horseback riding in severe weather, flesh eating plants, kayaking into lava caves, and cliff jumping without a bungee cord are topics covered in a new episode of Ecoluxe (Travel Channel, 9pm and 1am).
