Best Bets

Post-Apocalypse movies on TCM
TV’s All-Time Funniest (ABC, 7pm – 9pm)
New Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 10pm)
New Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi, 9pm and 11pm)
New Numb3rs (CBS, 9pm)
Barbara Walters, Cobie Smulders, Penn & Teller on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)
Harrison Ford, William Moseley, Carly Simon on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm)

Daytime

“Oprah’s Sandwich Showdown” on a new Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). Three viewers team up with three celebrity chefs (Ingrid Hoffmann, Curtis Stone, and Tyler Florence) to try and come up with the best sandwich. Padma Lakshmi (of Top Chef) is a judge. Also Gayle goes cross country in search of America’s best sandwich. Now I’m hungry . . . for a good sandwich.

Primetime Grid

Fri 7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30
ABC TV’s All-Time Funniest 20/20
CBS Ghost Whisperer Moonlight Numb3rs
NBC Most Outrageous Moments Rerun Dateline NBC
FOX Man of the House Local Programming
CW WWE Friday Night Smackdown! Local Programming
SciFi Sarah Jane Adventures Sarah Jane Adventures Doctor Who also at 10pm Battlestar Galactica also at 11pm

Primetime

NBA playoff coverage: NBA Shootaround (ESPN, 7pm), Lakers at Jazz (ESPN, 8pm).

Turner Classic Movies is doing a three movie special event they’re calling After The Apocalypse which features the films: Five (TCM, 7pm); The World, the Flesh, and the Devil (TCM, 8:45pm, letterboxed); and On The Beach (TCM, 10:30pm, letterboxed). Follow the link earlier in this paragraph to read all about them.

The Paley Center for Media presents a new special about TV: TV’s All-Time Funniest (ABC, 7pm – 9pm). TV fans voted for the funniest TV characters in eight categories: fathers, mothers, kids, relatives, neighbors, friends, boss, and co-workers. Nielsen Media Research gathered the data. The special includes clips from interviews with lots of stars who have played funny characters on TV, it also include clips from shows. Could be a fun special.

Back to back new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures (Sci-Fi, 7pm, 7:30pm).

New episodes of Lemur Kingdom (Animal Planet, 7pm, 7:30pm, 11pm, 11:30pm, 3am, 3:30am) and Escape to Chimp Eden (Animal Planet, 8pm, midnight, 4am). It looks like two episodes of Lemur Kingdom air tonight, one at 7pm and one at 7:30pm; the latter episode is listed as new, but if I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss an episode, I might doublecheck the first one to make sure it’s not new.

Melinda thinks that a murder case her father prosecuted in 1979 might have something to do with her father’s disappearance years ago on a new Ghost Whisperer (CBS, 7pm). Martin Donovan guest stars as her father, other guest stars include Tess Harper and Corin Nemec.

The Doctor and Donna wind up on an icy planet called the “Ood-Sphere” in this new episode of Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 10pm). Sounds like there’s a servant-race to free or let be, depending on how they feel about their situation. I imagine there are rules about these things, but it’s pretty clear the Doctor isn’t subject to the Prime Directive. Man, I’m a geek.

The grandson of one of Mick’s childhood friends is kidnapped on a new Moonlight (CBS, 8pm).

The husband of a woman gunned down in 1990 goes on trial for her murder 18 years later and Dateline NBC (NBC, 8pm – 10pm) covers it. Complete with interviews with the jurors after the trial. Geek Content Alert: The commercials I’ve seen for this episode are focusing on the fact that the accused murderer works in or owns a comic book shop.

A mother and daughter each think the other needs a fashion intervention on a new What Not To Wear (TLC, 8pm and midnight; also at 9pm and midnight on Sunday). I’m guessing they both do.

Bear Grylls demonstrates how to survive in Namibia on Man vs. Wild (Discovery, 8pm and midnight).

A speedboat going 150 mph hits a beach, flies 50 feet into the air, strikes power lines and explodes and other fun stuff like that on a new Shockwave (History, 8pm and midnight).

Tonight’s new episode of Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi, 9pm and 11pm; also on Sunday at 10pm) is titled “Faith” and that worries me a little bit. I haven’t yet watched last week’s episode which is unusual– usually Kevin and I watch episodes of this show fairly soon after they air, but we were out of town last weekend and then I saw so many negative comments about the episode online that I lost all enthusiasm. Whether you liked the last episode or not, I’m guessing we can all agree that it’d be cool if this episode were better than that one.

I believe that the Three 6 Mafia guest stars on tonight’s new episode of Numb3rs (CBS, 9pm). Now I can’t help but think that all musical acts with numbers in their name should appear on the show, but then I’m weird.

A woman who remembers everything, a hidden-camera investigation into tire safety, and folks who make money from online predictions on a new 20/20 (ABC, 9pm).

New 10 Years Younger (TLC, 9pm).

Late Night

Barbara Walters, Cobie Smulders (of How I Met Your Mother), Penn & Teller on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Harrison Ford, William Moseley, Carly Simon on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).

Seth Meyers, Sophia Bush (of One Tree Hill), Tokio Hotel on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Rachel Griffiths (of Brothers & Sisters, Six Feet Under), Christopher Gorham (of Ugly Betty, Out of Practice, Medical Investigation, Jake 2.0, Popular) on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Kelsey Grammer, Alex Trebek, Ludo on Jimmy Kimmel (ABC, check your local listings).

Leelee Sobieski, Ben Harper on a rerun of Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

The May 9 episode of Moonlight was the best one yet. I feel sorry for everyone who got sucked into the nostalgia of watching sitcoms past on ABC. Seriously, if you didn’t see it, you missed out.
