Barbara Walters interviews Ellen Page (of Juno), Harrison Ford, Vanessa Williams (of Ugly Betty), and Miley Cyrus (of Hannah Montana) on a new Barbara Walters Oscar Special (ABC, 6pm).
An interview with Devaughndre Broussard, who confessed to the murder of journalist Chauncey Bailey, but now says he didn’t do it on 60 Minutes (CBS, 6pm). It’s his first TV interview and he says he knows who the “real killer” is.
Movies from the ’90s which feature Oscar nominated work: Mr. Holland’s Opus (TCM, 7pm, letterboxed), Men in Black (TCM, 9:30pm, letterboxed), Contact (TCM, 11:30pm, letterboxed), and The Bodyguard (TCM, 2:15am, letterboxed). Read more about them.
Gillian Anderson hosts part three of Pride and Prejudice on Masterpiece (PBS, check your local listings).
NBA: Bulls at Rockets (ESPN, 7pm).
Oscar’s Red Carpet 2008 (ABC, 7pm). I find most red carpet shows are best watched with the TV muted, but then I’m mostly interested in seeing the outfits, not in the inane interviews and commentary.
Jon Stewart hosts The 80th Annual Academy Awards (ABC, 7:30pm). It’s the Oscars so it will inevitably run long, plan accordingly if you’re recording it.
The eighth episode (titled “Clarifications”) of the final season of The Wire (HBO, 8pm, 9:30pm) is another good one. Though it’s so hard knowing there are just two more episodes left after this one. Amy Ryan, who is an Oscar nominee for her work in Gone Baby Gone, has a good scene in this episode as “Beadie”. Dennis Lehane, author of the book Gone Baby Gone, co-wrote this episode.
Niki’s handlers want her to appear with a male escort on a new episode of The L Word (Showtime, 8pm, 9pm). Tasha’s review-board hearing comes to an end.
A panel of experts judge the burger recipes cooked by nine finalists for a top prize of $25,000 on a new Ultimate Recipe Showdown (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).
Walter and Skyler attend a party for a former colleague on a new Breaking Bad (AMC, 9pm, 10pm, midnight). And Jesse tries to go straight.
Dexter learns that the Ice Truck Killer knows a bit more about him than he’d like on the second episode of Dexter (CBS, 9pm). Network TV debut, edited down for CBS from the original episode that aired on Showtime.
Malik S, David Raibon, B. Cole, and Gerald Kelly on a new Def Comedy Jam (HBO, 9pm). Hosted by D.L. Hughley.
Bobby Flay is challenged by the Rathbun brothers on a new Iron Chef America (Food Network, 9pm and midnight). Hosted by Alton Brown.
Late Night
A family of destructive robots takes over the house on a new Aqua Teen Hungerforce (Cartoon Network, 10:45pm, 2:15am). Runtime of 15 minutes.
New Squidbillies (Cartoon Network, 11pm, 2:30am). Runtime of 15 minutes.
A special Oscar edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings) will air sometime after the Oscars, usually after your local news. Don’t count on it airing when scheduled given the Oscars often run long. Guests will probably include Jon Stewart, Ben Affleck, and Mary J. Blige.
Another fine rerun of Mad Men (AMC, 11pm).
