Best Bets
New Mythbusters (Discovery, 8pm and midnight)
Rerun of last season’s finale of Lost (ABC, 8pm - 10pm)
New In Treatment (HBO, 8:30pm and 11pm).
New Good Eats (Food Network, 8:30pm and 11:30pm)
New Law & Order (NBC, 9pm)
News & Notes:
Just a reminder that January is almost over, which means you’ve only got a day or two left to order the “Now or Never” shirts and stuff at Glarkware. I really like some of the designs this time around, which should appeal to fans of The Wire and How I Met Your Mother. Pity I so rarely wear t-shirts or I’d be buying some myself.

College basketball: Virginia at Maryland (ESPN, 6pm), Cincinnati at West Virginia (ESPN2, 6pm), Texas at Texas A&M (ESPN2, 8pm).
Jasmine Guy (of Dead Like Me, Diff’rent World) and dance champion Ron Montez host (or at least provide play by play for) America’s Ballroom Challenge (PBS, check your local listings). Watch real dance champions compete without being saddled with “celebrity” partners on this show. This is the first episode of five.
Four episodes of Alton Brown’s Good Eats (Food Network, 7pm - 9pm), but only one of them is new (Food Network, 8:30pm and 11:30pm). It’s called “The Wing and I” and is about wings, of course.
One of the wives is a burlesque dancer, the other is a lumberjack on a new Wife Swap (ABC, 7pm). Maybe they’ll all get along and the lumberjacks will take up burlesque? That’d be cool.
The auditions continue on American Idol (FOX, 7pm). Aren’t these over yet? DVR Alert: Runs one minute long.
Jack Wagner (of The Bold and the Beautiful) hosts the pageant on the season finale of Crowned: the Mother of All Pageants (CW, 7pm; also on Sun at 8pm).
The New Adventures of Old Christine returns on Monday with new episodes; I guess CBS wants to remind folks of this show’s existence and where the show left off by airing reruns of the last two episodes of last season (CBS, 7pm, 7:30pm).
Forget where things left off on Lost last season? ABC airs both parts of last season’s two-part finale tonight (ABC, 8pm - 10pm). It sounds like they’ve added some additional stuff to the show, it will include “on-screen facts and back stories to allow viewers to catch up with the action.” Text commentary? I want it to be like Pop Up Video! A new season of Lost begins tomorrow night.
Jack: “No, no one gets left behind.”
Rose: “If you say the words ‘live together, die alone’ to me Jack, I’m going to punch you in the face.”
from Lost
Francis Capra, who played “Weevil” on Veronica Mars, guest stars in this rerun of Criminal Minds (CBS, 8pm) from earlier this season. The BAU is called on to investigate a series of violent home invasions and murders in Denver.
Prentiss: “These guys are killing the Cleavers.”
Reid: “Strange.”
Hotchner: “The pattern?”
Reid: “No, the Cleavers. Of all the names for a 1950s idyllic TV family. I mean it’s rife with violent implication. Kind of makes you wonder how the writers really felt about suburbia, huh?”
Hotchner: “Focus, please.”
from Criminal Minds
Logan and Falacci investigate the deaths of two college friends (and the attack of another) on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC, 8pm). This was the last new episode to air on USA this season. Three solid citizens are attacked in public for no discernable reason. It’s a bit arty for any Law & Order episode, but is good. Ben Vereen guest stars. Alicia Witt (of Cybill) plays Falacci, Logan’s current partner.
The team experiments with flying remote-controlled airplanes, then tests the “cockroach survival” theory on a new episode of Mythbusters (Discovery, 8pm and midnight) which is titled “Airplane on a Conveyor Belt”.
NBA action: Cavaliers at Trail Blazers (ESPN, 8pm).
A couple more first season reruns of NCIS (USA, 8pm, 9pm).
If you watched the season premiere of Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm) earlier this week and are trying to catch up with the show, you might want to watch tonight’s rerun of the second ever episode of the show. It’s time for brunch, the day after the events of the first episode.
Chuck: (about Dan) “If I knew his name I’d hunt him down and kill him.”
Nate: “What, ’cause you kill people now? You gonna strangle him with your scarf?”
Chuck: “Don’t mock the scarf Nathaniel, it’s my signature.”
Nate: “Just saying, death by scarf– not that intimidating.”
from Gossip Girl
HGTV airs new episodes of Deserving Design (HGTV, 8pm and midnight), House Hunters (HGTV, 9pm and 1am), and Sleep On It (HGTV, 9:30pm and 1:30am).
DIY airs new episodes of Sweat Equity (DIY, 8pm) and Man Caves (DIY, 8:30pm).
The therapist played by Gabriel Byrne treats a new patient on tonight’s new episode of In Treatment (HBO, 8:30pm and 11pm). This one is a teenage gymnast (and Olympic Hopeful) who was in an accident. I’ve now seen all of this week’s episodes and like them a lot, just wait ’til you see Byrne’s character in therapy himself on Friday! I’ve also started screening episodes for next week and things get even more interesting then, as you might imagine.
Three roommates are found dead in an apartment in this new episode of Law & Order (NBC, 9pm). Was it a murder-suicide? Was there a love triangle? Or was something else going on? If you’ve ever seen Law & Order, you can probably guess that the detectives won’t get it right the first time. I’m really enjoying this season of Law & Order, the new cast this time around seems to have helped revitalize the show (the return of Rene Balcer behind the scenes also surely helps too).
The new series UFO Hunters (History Channel, 9pm and 1am) kicks off with a look at a UFO sighting that took place a week before the famous sightings near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947.
Sorry, no new Project Runway tonight, just reruns if I read things correctly.
Ali Wentworth is a Head Case (Starz, 9pm, 10pm) who treats celebrity head cases. New episode. Followed by a new episode of Hollywood Residential. I don’t care for either show.
Cris Carter, Cris Collinsworth, Bob Costas, and Dan Marino talk football on a new Inside the NFL (HBO, 9pm).
It looks like the Statue of Liberty may be a crime scene in this rerun of the season premiere of CSI: NY (CBS, 9pm) from earlier this season.
More new episodes of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne (TBS, 9pm, 9:30pm).
The new bullet-proof vests designed for the department’s female officers have an unexpected side effect on Reno 911! (Comedy Central, 9:30pm and 11:30pm). I think we can all guess what that might be.
Late Night
Dr. Phil McGraw, Lena Headey (of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Gary Allan on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Jessica Alba (of Dark Angel), Adam Arkin (of Journeyman, Chicago Hope), Ryan Sickler on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).
