News & Notes

Eureka has been renewed for a third season that should air next summer. Yay!

I’m quite sick with a truly awful cold and sore throat and stuff like that. So may not be posting much stuff today and/or this weekend.

Primetime:

“The Sound of Drums” is part two of the three-part season finale of Doctor Who (Sci-Fi, 7pm and midnight).

Anne Archer and Martin Donovan guest star on the season premiere of Ghost Whisperer (CBS, 7pm). Jay Mohr joins the cast this season as a regular. He joins Jennifer Love Hewitt, David Conrad, and Camryn Manheim.

Two-hour season premiere of Las Vegas (NBC, 8pm). James Caan is in this episode, but won’t be around much this season. Tom Selleck joins the cast as the new mysterious owner of the Montecito.

Series premiere of Moonlight (CBS, 8pm). Alex O’Louglin stars as “Mick St. John,” a vampire who is a private investigator. He also doesn’t drink fresh blood, he gets a supply from someone. Jason Dohring (who was “Logan” on Veronica Mars) plays his rich friend, a much older vampire and businessman who has no qualms about drinking fresh blood. Sophia Myles plays a reporter for a news website and Kevin Weisman (who was “Marshall” on Alias) plays her camera guy. Mick has a connection with the reporter (of course).

The first episode for this show was reworked pretty extensively from what I hear. The version I saw should be the version you’ll see and . . . boy, was it bad– not that I expected much. This is no Angel, that’s for sure, nor is it even as entertaining as The Dresden Files. FOX has a show called New Amsterdam that they’re holding ’til midseason about an immortal who helps people that is much better than this show.

Don’t expect much from this, it’s not good. Maybe it’ll improve, though I’m not thinking the show will survive very long (nor that it doeserves to). I could, of course, be wrong. I’d recommend skipping this show entirely, but understand that some will want to check it out due to the subject matter and/or the presence of Jason Dohring. You can go on ahead, but you can’t say I didn’t warn you.

Val Kilmer guest stars in the season premiere of Numb3rs (CBS, 9pm). The premiere deals with fallout from last season’s finale, I guess. Tony Scott directs this episode.

Season premiere of Stargate: Atlantis (Sci-Fi, 9pm and 11pm).

Late Night

Paris Hilton, Emile Hirsch on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Teri Hatcher, Kevin McKidd, Queen Latifah on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).

Seth Meyers, Bret Michaels, Jose Gonzalez on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Greg Kinnear, Jenny McCarthy, Raul Midon on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Michael Douglas, Amanda Bynes, James Blunt on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

January Jones, Dwayne Perkins on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
