The “Pursuit of Excellence” series on PBS has been . . . excellent. How can you not want to watch Lords of the Gourd: The Pursuit of Excellence (PBS, check your local listings)? No? What if I tell you it’s about people who grow giant pumpkins and other goards? I’m so there.

Teachers must be the theme on Turner Classic Movies tonight as they’re showing Mr. Holland’s Opus (TCM, 7pm) and To Sir, With Love (TCM, 9:30pm).

New documentary Children of God: Lost and Found (Cinemax, 7pm).

Baseball: Dodgers at Cubs (ESPN, 7pm).

New episode of Mythbusters (Discovery, 8pm and midnight). Kari, Tory, and Grant put a radio-frequency identification conspiracy theory to the test; Adam and Jamie test two myths about weapons.

I’m not sure who is on Costas NOW (HBO, 8pm) tonight, but it’s usually worth a look.

Two new episodes of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne (TBS, 8pm, 8:30pm).

Bodies are turning up in a remote part of Idaho on a rerun of Criminal Minds (CBS, 8pm). You know what that means: people are being hunted for sport.

Could a man have fallen from space? It’s up to Bones (FOX, 8pm) (and Booth) to figure it out in this rerun.

New episode of Top Chef (Bravo, 9pm, lots of rebroadcasts).

Rescue Me (FX, 9pm, also at 10pm).

ESPN Classic Remembers: 1972 Munich Tragedy (ESPN Classic, 9pm).

Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Kansas City Chiefs (HBO, 9pm)
