News & Notes

Happy Birthday to my fabulous husband Kevin G. Austin! He’s cool. And without him, this site wouldn’t be possible.

Las Vegas begins airing (reruns) on TNT today. Keep an eye out for schedule changes for both cable reruns and for the syndicated shows (including reruns) that air on your local stations. These changes typically occur in September.

The big Gold Box “Deal of the Day” at Amazon.com today is for Oz - The Complete Seasons 1-6 for just $95 (that’’s 60% off the regular price). Score! Deal is good today only, while supplies last. Amazon promises TV DVD deals in the Gold Box all this week, I’ll try to link to them here each day.

There’s also a really big TV DVD Sale at Amazon.com right now that’s worth a look. I’ve added some handy links to the sidebar here that’ll take you to TV DVD Stuff at Amazon.com. Once again, thanks in advance to anyone who shops via these Amazon links as that helps support this site. I’ve been shopping at Amazon.com regularly myself since 1998 (or earlier) and highly recommend the site (or I wouldn’t link to it so often).

If you read these picks in a feed reader or via email, please do stop by the website as the picks look the best there and there’s other content available that isn’t available in the emails/feed.

Daytime

A marathon of most episodes of season one of Lincoln Heights (ABC Family, 10am - 7pm) in case you want to catch up before tonight’s second season premiere. There were 13 episodes of season one, will be 10 episodes for season two.

Afternoon

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on the season premiere of The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Bill Clinton, Andre Agassi on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). This is a new episode; the new season starts next Monday with special guest David Letterman.

Simple Supper: hanger steak with creamed spinach; Martha’s own workout routine; Healthy Hair 101 on Martha Stewart (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Violent Kids” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings). Season premiere is next week.

Primetime

It’s time to head back to school on the season premiere of Lincoln Heights (ABC Family, 7pm, 8pm; also on Friday at 9pm), but tensions are high and violence breaks out all over the neighborhood.

Paul Newman narrates Dale: The Movie (CMT, 7pm) which is a new documentary about Dale Earnhardt.

A partial skeleton is found in concrete and somehow Booth ends up kidnapped (kinda) on a rerun of Bones (FOX, 7pm).

Angela: “I can’t fight or shoot a gun, but if something bad happens, I can spit with deadly accuracy.”
  from Bones

“Unto the Breach” is the second-to-last episode of Gilmore Girls (CW, 7pm). It’s graduation day for Rory.

Rory: (moving her things out of her dorm room) “Okay, just one more trip.”
Lorelai: “No! I can’t! This is why we don’t exercise– it’s too exhausting!”
Rory: “Well, it wouldn’t be so exhausting if we exercised.”
Lorelai: “Oh darn you and your college graduate logic!”
  from Gilmore Girls

Tonight’s new episode of Eureka (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 11pm) involves yet another abandoned research project; this one has something to do with invisibility so I imagine some people (and things) may very well disappear. I’m still loving this show, by the way. Cute, fun, fluff. Perfect summer fare.

Season finale of The Bill Engvall Show (TBS, 8pm and 10pm). It involves karaoke: you’ve been warned.

Series premiere of Jail (My Network TV, 8pm).

Anne Ramsay guest stars as a pregnant photographer on a rerun of House (FOX, 8pm). She’s got a major health problem, of course.

House: “Chase just agreed with her because he didn’t want to lose his all-access pass to her love rug.”
Dr. Cuddy: “They’re sleeping together?”
House: “If by ’sleeping together’ you mean having sex in the janitor’s closet.”
Dr. Cuddy: “Here?!”
House: “No, the janitor’s closet at the local high school. Go Tigercats!”
  from House

New episode of Damages (FX, 9pm, 10pm, midnight). Glenn Close stars in this fascinating and chilling show that’s not like any other legal drama you’ve seen.

Season premiere of The Contender (ESPN, 9pm, 2am; also on ESPN2, etc).

“A seemingly perfect family is the target of a violent attack that leaves the father dead; police recordings of confrontations ignite controversy” on another “Crime” installment of Primetime (ABC, 9pm).

Season finale of Flipping Out (Bravo, 8:59pm, 10:01pm, midnight, 2am). Runs a minute or two long.

Rerun of last night’s new episode of The Closer (TNT, 9pm).

Dylan Walsh (of Nip/Tuck) guest stars on a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm). From near the end of last season, it has Elliott thinking a whole lot about his own life. The season premiere will air on September 25th; I’ve already seen it and it’s darn good.

Late Night:

Alan Weisman on a rerun of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Michael Shermer on a rerun of The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Former President Bill Clinton, Patti Scialfa on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Dennis Miller, Capt. Ed Kiesel, Rodrigo y Gabriela on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).

David Duchovny, Tim Gunn, Kevin Brennan on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

Jason Priestley, Sherri Shepherd, Chris “Kid” Reid on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS, 11:37pm).

Kirk Douglas, Terrell Owens, Gogol Bordello on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

Bill Bellamy, Hellogoodbye on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
