News & Notes

More depressed than usual these days and having a hard time keeping up with stuff (like this site). I like to think that if this were a real job (i.e. I got paid for the work), I’d manage better, but I still feel crummy about this. Sigh.

The memorial for my friend Mike this past Friday was about as good as such a thing could be. I did my best to help out and didn’t cry too much. I’m very pleased that an article about the memorial (and about Mike) made the front page of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press (though there are some errors in the piece as there so often are, but nothing that deters from the goodness of the thing).

Chris is robbed (oh no!) on a new Everybody Hates Chris (CW, 7pm).

Michael “puts the moves on Mahone’s wife” on a new Prison Break (FOX, 7pm). Presumably to try and get inside the head of Mahone (Bill Fichtner). Callie Thorne guest stars (of Rescue Me, The Wire, and Homicide).

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (ABC Family, 7pm).

Rerun of the “Slutty Pumpkin” episode of How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 7pm) from last year. Ted goes to the same Halloween party yet again, in hopes of meeting up with a woman he met at the party years ago.

NFL Football: New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings (ESPN, 7:30pm).

A Las Vegas high roller offers Hiro (and his friend) a deal, the cheerleader meets with her biological parents, and the artist gets another strange phone call on a new episode of Heroes (NBC, 8pm; airs again on Friday and Monday on Sci-Fi). I don’t know about you, but I’m still loving this show. Fascinating and different, I sure hope it’s going somewhere interesting (and that the showrunners have a plan). Created by Tim Kring (of Crossing Jordan); Bryan Fuller (of Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls) is on board as a consulting producer (and writer).

At long last, Robbie Coltrane returns as Fitz for Cracker: A New Terror (BBC America, 8pm - 10pm, midnight - 2am; check your local listings to be sure).

Jodi Lyn O’Keefe guest stars on a rerun of Two and a Half Men (CBS, 8pm) titled “Hi, Mr. Horned One”. She threatens to put a curse on Charlie.

Jake: “She was showing me her tattoos.”
Alan: “Lucky you. There was a time when you had to pay a quarter and go into a tent to see that. Now it’s right at your breakfast table.”
from Two and a Half Men

A millionaire’s son and his blue-collar girlfriend die in a small-engine plane crash on a new episode of Justice (FOX, 8pm). The woman’s family sues the millionaire, of course.

Christine’s marriage counselor visits the gym and Christine views her old wedding video on a rerun of The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 8:30pm) from last season.

NBC has replaced what would’ve been a rerun of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip with a special airing of a new episode of Friday Night Lights (NBC, 9pm) which will also air again in its usual timeslot (Tuesday at 7pm). If you normally watch Studio 60, there’s no reason not to check out this excellent new series while Studio 60 has the week off. I’m pleased NBC is giving Lights such a showcase. Rumors abound that Studio 60 may be canceled soon, but the show has not been canceled (yet). Friday Night Lights is in danger as well, here’s hoping people tune in tonight. I completely agree with this piece about the two shows.

There’s been so much going on this season on Weeds (Showtime, 9pm, 9:30pm, 11pm), you can bet tonight’s season finale will truly be explosive (and end with a cliffhanger). I can’t wait!

Brian and Adam try to get back into the dating pool and have a competition of some sort to make it more interesting I guess on What About Brian (ABC, 9pm). Pity this isn’t a better show as there’s a lot of wasted potential here.

There’s a double murder on a cruise ship on a rerun of CSI: Miami (CBS, 9pm) titled “Open Water” from near the end of last season. Keith Barry and Sherilyn Fenn are among the guest stars.

Late Night

Late night talk show listings.

Rebroadcast of the lastest episode of Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi, 10pm). Excellent episode of an excellent show.

Rebroadcast of the latest episode of Dexter (Showtime, 10pm).
