Primetime

World Series, Game 4 (FOX, 7pm). Detroit Tigers at St. Louis Cardinals. It’s been a good series so far.

Betty has some “frightful experiences” on Halloween, Daniel visits his Mom on a new Ugly Betty (ABC, 7pm). Guest stars include Christopher Gorham (of Jake 2.0, Medical Investigation, and Out of Practice) and Judith Light (of Who’s The Boss, Law & Order: SVU). I know I was unsure about this show when I’d just seen the pilot, but it’s grown on me. It’s a cute fun show (and honestly, we could use more of those).

The second part of Dick Cavett’s lengthy interview with Katharine Hepburn on Dick Cavett (TCM, 7pm - 8:15pm; 10pm - 11:15pm). Followed by the excellent Hepburn-Tracy movie Adam’s Rib (TCM, 8:15pm).

Early decides to cross “Never took Joy’s side” off of his list on a rerun of the season premiere of My Name Is Earl (NBC, 7pm). He chooses a bad time to do this as Joy gets into all sorts of trouble when she’s not allowed to return a large piece of furniture. This episode left me cold for some reason and had me worried about this season of Earl, but there have been some good episodes since this one.

Earl: “You stole a truck?”
Joy: “Because they wouldn’t give me my money back. It was a crime of principle, like when Rosa Parks stole that bus.”

We see, in flashbacks, a bit of the life Lex led in prep school on a new episode of Smallville (CW, 7pm). Lex returns to school for a reunion.

A special look back at the first 15 days, presumably with some new footage on Survivor: Cook Islands (CBS, 7pm).

Michael accidently outs someone on a rerun of the season premiere of The Office (NBC, 7:30pm).

Joan’s in Spain on Joan Cusack’s Local Flavor (Travel, 8pm and 11pm).

Rebroadcasts of the first two episodes of this season of Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 8pm, 9pm). The first episode (”Time Has Come Today”) contains some interesting flashbacks to events we never saw on the show before (like when Meredith met McDreamy). Guest stars in these episodes include: Roxanne Hart (of Chicago Hope), Richard Roundtree, Diahann Carroll, and Chris O’Donnell.

Cristina: “Yeah, but you’re all dark and twisty inside.”
Meredith: “Dark and twisty?”
Cristina: “What, with the Alzheimer’s thing and the father you don’t talk to.”
Alex: “And the tequila thing, and the inappropriate men thing.”
George: “You are dark and twisty inside, Meredith, and now Izzie is dark and twisty inside.”
Meredith: “So all of a sudden I’m the president for people with crappy lives?”
  from Grey’s Anatomy

A man who is found dead in a dumpster may have participated in a hot dog eating contest on a rerun of CSI (CBS, 8pm).

Catherine: “And are those the only hotdogs that you serve?”
Waitress: “Yeah. We’re famous for our cocktail weiners, you should try one.”
Brass: “I think we’d need a few cocktails first.”
  from CSI

Sam and Dean encounter a slacker with psychic powers of persuasion on a new Supernatural (CW, 8pm; airs again on Sunday at 7pm).

A prominent religious organization, an ex-lover, and serial killers threaten Satan’s Halloween costume party on South Park (Comedy Central, 9pm and 11pm).

NBA Preseason Basketball: Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Lakers (TNT, 9pm).

Rerun of the series premiere of Shark (CBS, 9pm). Melissa Leo (of Homicide) and Lynn Whitfield guest star. When I covered the premiere of this show, I neglected to mention that the first episode was directed by Spike Lee. It’s a decent enough pilot, though I think the show has improved since this episode. James Woods and Jeri Ryan star.

Rerun of the season premiere of ER (NBC, 8:59pm) which continued where the finale left off– with a whole lot of lives in danger.
