Primetime:
Another airing of the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 7pm) in case you missed it last night. I just watched the episode in question and enjoyed it a lot, I’m happy to see new episodes of this show.
Season premiere of Ghost Whisperer (CBS, 7pm). I really don’t like this show and am disappointed that it is returning for a second season. I’m pretty sure Aisha Tyler is no longer in the cast, but she is in this episode. Camryn Manheim joins the cast next week. Dondre T. Whitfield and Jay Mohr guest star; Mohr’s character will recur this season.
Anne Heche stars in another new episode of Men in Trees. I’ve seen two episodes now and I like this show. It’s a big ol’ ball of fluff, but it’s entertaining fluff; you can’t think about it too hard, just go with it. Fellow Vidiot Steve Lutz wrote his review without having read my fall preview and then remarked to me that we seemed to completely agree. Yup. Check out Steve’s excellent review of the show (I think it’s “excellent” not ‘cuz we agree, but because Steve writes so well).
“SG-1 members begin a quest to find the Sangraal after landing on a planet where they believe it to be” on the summer finale of Stargate SG-1 (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 10pm).
David James Elliott (of JAG) joins the cast on the season premiere of Close To Home (CBS, 8pm). I liked the episodes of this that I saw last season; series star Jennifer Finnigan is just so darn likeable! Not a great show, but it’s okay.
Dateline NBC (NBC, 8pm) goes after predators. “After chatting online about sex and then making a date, 20 men show up at an undercover house in Georgia only to be confronted by Chris Hansen.” You know, if I were any sort of predatory criminal, I’d avoid this sort of meeting given how many of them are set-ups these days– I’m just saying, is all.
“Ancients return to Atlantis after thousands of years and ask the Stargate team to vacate the city” on the summer finale of Stargate Atlantis (Sci-Fi, 9pm and 11pm).
Season premiere of Numb3rs (CBS, 9pm). Not only has a 30-year-old teacher taken up with a teenager student, they’ve also gone on a cross-country crime spree. Yikes! Don and his team try to catch them (with Charlie’s help, of course). Kim Dickens (of Deadwood) guest stars as the teacher, David Gallagher (of 7th Heaven) guest stars as the student.
Dennis Farina and have left the show; the season premiere of Law & Order (NBC, 9pm) introduces two new characters: a young beautiful police officer who, after a very public incident in a beauty shop, is promoted to work in the Homicide unit with Det. Green (she’s played by Milena Govich of Conviction; and a new A.D.A. to work with Jack McCoy (played by Alana De La Garza of CSI: Miami). I’ve seen this episode. It’s interesting to see Jesse L. Martin’s character take on the wise old detective role to this young woman who most people seem to think doesn’t deserve the job she has. I didn’t take an instant dislike to either new character, nor did either win me over– I’ll need a few more episodes to see what I think. The show itself is solid and, well, it’s Law & Order. You pretty much know what to expect by now. Lt. Van Buren does get a little more screen time than usual where she mostly voices her displeasure with the new young detective. It’s interesting that Dick Wolf chose two actors from his now-dead show Conviction to take over detective roles on this show and Criminal Intent (Julianne Nicholson joins the cast of CI as Mike Logan’s new partner next week).
The use of prescription methadone for chronic pain, Bill O’Reilly talks about fame, Rachael Ray, whether a person’s name can keep one from getting a job on 20/20 (ABC, 9pm).
Rebroadcast of the most recent new episode of The Wire (HBO, 9pm). Prez prepares for his first day as a schoolteacher.
Late Night
New MI-5 (A&E, 10pm and 2am).
Author Reza Aslan, former President Sandy Rios of Concerned Women for America, actor Bradley Whitford, producer C.C. Goldwater on Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO, 10pm).
Rerun of the latest episode of Nip/Tuck (FX, 10pm).
“Peachy Keen” episode of Good Eats (Food, 10pm and 1am).
“House denies his physical pain; a child comes to the hospital with rectal bleeding and proclamations of being tortured by aliens” on a rerun of a recent episode of House (USA, 10pm).
Late night talk show listings are now linked to in the sidebar on the right (on the website).
