Primetime

A new recap episode of Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 7pm) for the benefit of those who are behind on the show or would like a refresher on where things left off last year.

Season premiere of My Name Is Earl (NBC, 7pm).

Season premiere of The Office (NBC, 7:30pm).

Meredith is still confused about McDreamy (ya think?) and Izzie is grieving both Denny and her career (no kidding) on the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 8pm).

There’s a murder at the set of “Ka” or something like that on the season premiere of C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm). Kevin and I saw “Ka” while in Las Vegas for our honeymoon and Thanksgiving last year; ’twas the first Cirque show I ever saw in person and I must say– it was pretty darn impressive.

Series premiere of Shark (CBS, 9pm). James Woods stars as a slick high priced defense attorney who ends up going to work in the district attorney’s office; Jeri Ryan (of Star Trek: Voyager, Boston Legal) is the district attorney. I liked this show a lot more than Justice, but not as much as In Justice from last season. Involves cases, but also the lead’s home life with his teenage daughter and ex-wife (played by Lindsay Frost). I like this show– it’s not something you’ve gotta see, but it’s worth a look and I’ll check back in for future episodes to see how it goes. Not great, but solid.

Series premiere of Six Degrees (ABC, 9pm). This show is more ambitious than Shark and yet . . . it just didn’t grab me. Six seemingly random people end up bumping into each other and just passing each other in this new drama set in New York City. Good actors, potentially interesting characters, but it’s all so serious and there’s no humor and . . . I dunno. It could develop into something interesting, but for now it just seems like the showrunners decided that people enjoy the bits of Lost and other shows where characters happen to cross paths a zillion times in both major and minor ways. So far it’s a show about that, but little else. Why should we care about these people? There’s no larger story at work here. I’ll be checking out another couple of episodes to see if this actually goes anywhere, but I’m not terribly interested in this show. If you want a more compelling show about characters who are thrown together, check out The Nine when it debuts.

Late Night

Late night talk show listings are now linked to in the sidebar on the right; I will still mention any listings I find particularly noteworthy here (and possibly in Best Bets).
