Best Bets

New Good Eats (Food Network, 9pm and midnight)
Bonnie Hunt on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight)
Kyra Sedgwick, Al Franken on Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)

News & Notes:

Some of cool TV DVDs now available for pre-order (release date in parenthesis): The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (July 18), seasons 3 & 4 of The Adventures of Superman (June 20), season 3 of Arrested Development (August 29), season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy (September 12), season 4 of Hogan’s Heroes (August 15), Invasion (August 22), season 3 of Lois and Clark (June 20), season 2 of Lost (October 3rd), season 4 of NewsRadio (June 20), seasons 3 & 4 of Remington Steele (August 15), Surface (August 15), Threshold (August 22), season 2 of Veronica Mars (August 22), season 3 of The Wire (August 8), and more (I’m still working on getting a full release schedule back online).

The new slimmer Buffy sets are on sale for $20 each right now, in case you need to fill out your collection. The slimmer cheaper X-Files sets are $25 each. The content on these sets is the same as the older sets, they’re just in smaller packages. So, if like me, you still need some of the seasons, it was worth waiting for cheaper sets. I run down more DVD deals at dvd.tvpicks.net

Remember that if you buy DVDs or other stuff at amazon.com via my links, I get a small percentage of what you spend and I really really appreciate that– it makes this site possible.

Don’t forget to visit TV Tattle for links to columns, articles, etc. There are good roundups there of coverage of the Everwood finale and other stuff.

I’ll be on the radio tomorrow (see sidebar for time), as I am most Thursdays; you can listen online or on 107.1 FM in the Twin Cities.

Times listed are for the Central timezone.

Primetime

Baseball: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees (ESPN, 6pm). Followed by Baseball Tonight (ESPN, 9pm or so).

Another big block of Without A Trace on TNT.

Bryan Cranston, Jamie Bamber, Jason Alexander, Susie Essma, and Kevin Sorbo compete on Celebrity Poker Showdown: New Orleans (Bravo, 6pm – 8pm, 8pm – 10pm). I’ve mentioned it before, but feel obligated to mention it again: Kevin Sorbo is from my hometown of Mound, Minnesota; we even went to the same church for a while. And the park I played in as a child is now known as “Sorbo Park.” Strange, but true.

Paige Davis, Tim Meadows, Leslie Nielsen, and Kathy Najimy compete in the Beat The Clock edition of Gameshow Marathon (CBS, 7pm). Ricki Lake hosts.

If you missed the finales of Big Love (HBO, 7pm) and The Sopranos (HBO, 8pm) this past weekend, they air again on HBO tonight.

Ming-Na (of ER, As The World Turns) guest stars on a rerun of George Lopez (ABC, 7pm).

Dateline NBC (NBC, 7pm, 8pm) goes after online predators.

Rerun of the second episode of this past season of Lost (ABC, 8pm). Michael, Sawyer, and Jin fight for their lives after their raft is destroyed.

A paranoid schizophrenic passenger takes hostages on a train and one of them just happens to be Elle of the Criminal Minds (CBS, 8pm) team. Jeff Kober (of China Beach) guest stars.

New episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 9pm and midnight) titled “House of the Rising Bun.” Alton Brown makes some breakfast breads and tries to find out if they can help sell a house.

It’s Mac’s birthday and she gets to deal with a hostage crisis on a new episode of Commander In Chief (ABC, 9pm).

An A.D.A. is found dead on a rerun of CSI: NY (CBS, 9pm). Kelly Hu (of Martial Law), Kevin Rahm (of Judging Amy), and Wayne Knight (of Seinfeld) guest star.

Series premiere of Dog Bites Man (Comedy Central, 9:30pm and 11:30pm). I don’t believe I received a review copy of this (or else it got lost in the shuffle, I get a lot of mail). Check out what others are saying about this show.

Late Night

Bonnie Hunt on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Kyra Sedgwick, Al Franken on Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Check out Sue’s page for a full list of late night talk show guests.
