Best Bets:

First episode of Gilmore Girls (ABC Family, 4pm; 10am tomorrow)
New Everwood (WB, 8pm)
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight)
Howard Dean on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)

News & Notes:

I’ve had picks ready for y’all for a while now, but technical difficulties that are out of my control have plagued me. Very frustrating. I’ve been waiting for technical support to contact me for more than 20 hours by now, so I’m a bit cranky. Things are finally working as of 2:15pm so I can upload the picks here where they belong.

Is it okay if I apologize for listing the Gilmore Girls Backstage Special as a “best bet” yesterday? I love Gilmore Girls, so I had hoped this would be an interesting special. It was pretty terrible; though it was clear that some of the actors would’ve had interesting things to say if given half a chance. Poorly put together (and hosted) special. Oh, well. I’m just glad Gilmore Girls is now airing daily, even if it’s at an earlier time than I’d like.

Primetime:

That’s Entertainment! (TCM, 7pm) is incredibly fun, ‘cuz it’s just the best bits from MGM musicals circa 1928-1958.

Oliver Platt starred as a reporter in the shortlived series Deadline (Trio, 7pm and 10pm). I’m not sure I’d call the show “brilliant,” but it had an interesting cast and some potential. Bebe Neuwirth, Lili Taylor, Hope Davis, and Tom Conti co-starred.

The four latest episodes of The Surreal Life (VH1, 7pm – 9pm).

Steve Young guest stars on Listen Up (CBS, 7:30pm). The two TV stars (characters played by Jason Alexander and Malcolm Jamal-Warner) speak at a school assembly, but it’s not the kids Dad who is the popular one.

Oh-oh. Delia finds Nina’s “personal massager” on Everwood (WB, 8pm). Ephram writes Amy a love letter. Bright is named “employee of the month” somewhere! Still one of the coolest shows too few people watch.

Debra and Marie have (yet another) big fight on Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm).

A truckload of lobsters is stolen on Las Vegas (NBC, 8pm) and causes all manner of problems for the staff. Michael Buble guest stars.

“Kid Kravings” and “Kid Cuisine” Unwrapped (Food Network, 8pm and midnight; 8:30pm and 12:30am).

Charlie tries to help Jake get out of trouble at school by wooing his teacher (oh-oh) on Two and a Half Men (CBS, 8:30pm).

Homeland Security notifies the bosses at LAX (NBC, 9pm) of a “credible threat” and so they increase security and debate whether to tell the public of the threat.

Jonathan Silverman and John Heard are among the guest stars on C.S.I. Miami (CBS, 9pm). A woman is run over by a bus.

Rerun of last night’s season premiere of Sue Thomas, F. B. Eye (PAX, 9pm). I know a lot of people who enjoy this show a fair bit, so it might be worth a look if you’ve not tried it before and aren’t hooked on any of the shows airing at this time.

Late Night:

Bishop Desmond Tutu on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Another fine season 1 episode of Without A Trace (TNT, 10pm). Megan Gallagher and David Paymer guest star in this episode. TNT is airing season 1 episodes of the show each Monday night at 10pm.

Rerun of the latest new episode of The Surreal Life (VH1, 10pm).

Rerun of “The Battle of the Shirleys” episode of In Search of the Partridge Family (VH1, 10:30pm – 11:30pm).

Greg Giraldo, Jim Norton, Todd Lynn, Lynne Koplitz on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Howard Dean, Franz Ferdinand on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

David Arquette, Michael Phelps, Cake on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Darrell Hammond, Ben McKenzie (of The O.C.), Switchfoot on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:37pm).

John Goodman, Sean Faris, Korn on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings, airs late ‘cuz of Monday Night Football).

Guest host Aisha Tyler; with guests Peter Berg, Eve, Snow Patrol on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Stephen Colbert, Method Man on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Pilot episode of Action (Comedy Central, 1:30am). Jay Mohr starred in this funny, but shortlived series about a Hollywood producer.

Tomorrow / Tuesday:

“Real Me” and “The Replacement” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 6am, 7am).

“The Bachelor Party” episode of Angel (TNT, 7am). From Season 1.

More of the big Farscape marathon (Sci-Fi, 7am – 3pm).

Jimmy Fallon, Annette Bening, Bethany Hamilton on Today (NBC, 7am – 10am).

Regis Philbin, Ann Coulter, Ron Hazelton on Good Morning, America (ABC, 7am – 9am).

John Edwards on The Early Show (CBS, 7am – 9am).
