News:

The first few Homicide: Life on the Street Season 4 DVD sets that people ordered through this site shipped yesterday, more should be shipping from now ’til the release date of March 30th. Be sure to check out my review of the set if you haven’t yet. I recommend it (as well as previous sets) very highly. My favorite show of all time ‘cuz it’s funny and true and more about life than death and . . . just trust me, okay? The first four seasons are sublime. If you can’t afford to order the DVD set, be sure you enter the anniversary contest where you’ll have a good shot at winning Season 4 or Season 3 on DVD!

TV DVDs due out tomorrow: Season 3 of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, The Richard Pryor Show, and Season 2 of Will & Grace. [ More TV on DVD ]

TV DVDs due out next Tuesday: Season 1 of A Touch of Frost, The Cisco Kid - Volume 1, Season 3 of C.S.I., Season 3 of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Season 4 of Homicide: Life on the Street, Season 1 of Penn & Teller’s show that I won’t name ‘cuz this is a family website, Season 1 of Resurrection Blvd., and Season 4 of Sanford & Son. Still time to pre-order and get ‘em by the release date (and for a discount). [ More TV on DVD ]

Thanks so much to everyone who shops at stores (like amazon.com and the A&E video store) via the links on this site. It really helps.

Keep those contest entries coming, folks! Still fewer than 30 entries, so you’ve got great odds to win something cool. Thanks so much to everyone who has supported this site during the last 5 years!

“Anne” and “Dead Man’s Party” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 3pm, 4pm). First episodes of season 3. Let me just say that they’re terrible episodes to start with if you haven’t seen the show before (yes, I tried starting with “Anne” once upon a time).

“Quickening” episode of Angel (TNT, 4pm).

Primetime:

Bernie volunteers to help out as a teacher’s helper at school on a new Bernie Mac Show (FOX, 7pm). Note new time & day. Season 1 of this show is now available for pre-order on DVD, is due out on May 5th.

Kevin Smith guest stars on Yes, Dear (CBS, 7pm) as himself or some version of himself. No, I don’t know why. Brian Doyle Murray also guest stars.

Mandy Patinkin stars as an investigator in the new TV movie NTSB: The Crash of Flight 323 (ABC, 7pm - 9pm). With Ted McGinley, Eric Close (of Without A Trace), Kevin Dunn, Tyra Ferrell, Jeffrey D. Sams, Francie Swift, Gigi Rice, Brian Markinson, Brett Cullen, Richard Riehle, Isabella Hofmann, and Adam Tsou. ” Investigators try to determine whether mechanical failure, pilot error or terrorism is the cause of a plane crash.”

“Kicked Up Cheesecake” on Emeril Live (Food Network, 7pm and 11pm).

Rerun of the Dinner for Five (IFC, 7pm and 10pm) with Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, and director Kevin Smith (and Jon Favreau, of course). From when Daredevil came out.

“Vegas House” on Monster House (Discovery, 7pm and 10pm).

I hardly ever mention Fear Factor (NBC, 7pm) because it grosses me out. Ew!

There’s a break-in, so the family installs a panic room on Cracking Up (FOX, 7:30pm). Presumably hijinks ensue. Kyle Gass (of Tenacious D) guest stars as “Naked Man.” I missed last week’s episode with Jack Black, but I did review the first two episodes. Molly Shannon and Jason Schwartzman star.

Amy’s family (Fred Willard, Georgia Engel, Chris Elliott) mention Robert’s habit of touching food to his chin and before too long everyone is talking about it on Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm). CBS sent me this episode to preview and it’s another good one. Not great, but darn good. I think my favorite episodes may have Robert (Brad Garrett) at the heart of them.

Marc McGrath of Sugar Ray is hanging out with Cheryl Ladd (a.k.a. Mrs. James Caan on this show) on a new Las Vegas (NBC, 8pm).

Rerun of “The L Word” episode of Everwood (WB, 8pm, rerun on Sunday at 5pm). I wish they’d air some older reruns. This is the one where Ephram tells Madison “I love you” only to have his declaration fall flat. And then he kindof wigs out when he’s supposed to be enjoying a trip to a jazz competition with his Dad and Bright and Will Cleveland (James Earl Jones). I think Amy makes some poor choices, too. I have enjoyed very much the fact that Ephram and Amy are acting like the teens they are (i.e. making some poor choices), it’s sometimes a bit hard to watch and not the most fun. I’m not sure these episodes are good ones for new viewers to jump into, either. Though I hope the wit and heart of the show shines through even these downer sorts of episodes.

“Classics” and “Crazy Candy” Unwrapped (Food Network, 8pm and midnight; 8:30pm and 12:30am).

Teri Hatcher (of Lois and Clark) guest stars as Judith’s sister Liz on Two and a Half Men (CBS, 8:30pm). She hits on Alan (Jon Cryer) at her nephew’s birthday party.

Dan Cruickshank Under Fire: The Raiders of the Lost Art (Trio, 8:30pm and 11:30pm). A look at the damage done by looters to a Iraq museum.

Billy Kay (Independent Spirit nominee for L.I.E., used to play Shayne on Guiding Light) guest stars on C.S.I. Miami (CBS, 9pm) as a “forensics fanatic” who steals something from a crime scene.

The Race From the White House 2004 (Comedy Central, 9pm) is essentially a Daily Show clip show.

John Stossel looks into “Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity” on a “special edition” of 20/20 (ABC, 9pm). Should be fun. Or at least more fun than these newsmagazine shows usually are.

Some Average Joe alums bring swimsuit models into the mix on Average Joe: Adam Returns (NBC, 9pm).

Couple more episodes of Airline (A&E, 9pm, 9:30pm).

Single In Vegas (We, 9pm).

Dinner & a Movie Las Vegas Super Chef Cook-Off! (TBS, 9:10pm). What’s the deal? It’s a contest. “This tasty competition will feature a face-off between four of the country’s top culinary talents: Bradley Ogden, Todd English and Mary Sue Milliken teamed with Susan Feniger.” Recipes must be themed to go with a movie, of course. And the judges are the usual suspects from Dinner & A Movie. Sweepstakes winners will aid the chefs. Is followed by Dinner & A Movie treatment of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (TBS, 10:10pm), which means there’s a recipe involved.

Another airing of last week’s episode of The Shield (FX, 9:30pm). In case you missed it.

Late Night:

Wynton Marsalis on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Chewy Gooey Treats Unwrapped (Food Network, 10pm and 2am).

“Rose Bowl” episode of NewsRadio (Biography, 10pm and 2am).

Rerun of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Concert Class of 2004 (VH1, 10pm).

“Mussel Bound” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 10:30pm and 2:30am).

Bender competes in the Olympics as a fembot on Futurama (Cartoon Network, 10:30pm and 1:30am).

Scott Thompson (of Kids in the Hall), others TBA on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Tom Hanks, N.E.R.D. on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Mel Gibson, Prince on an excellent rerun of The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm). Well, I skipped the monologue and comedy bits (as usual with this show) and just watched the interviews with Gibson & Prince and the Prince performance.

Final two episodes of the 8th season, which has Mulder back and the birth of Scully’s baby on The X-Files (TNT, 11pm, midnight). Episodes are “Essence” and “Existence.”

Jim Carrey, Eric McCormack, Barenaked Ladies on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm). One of the episodes from when Conan was in Toronto.

Tyra Banks, Dave Attell (of Insomniac with Dave Attell), Matt Nathanson on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

John Larroquette, Carmen Kass, Chingy on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn (CBS, check your local listings).

Eve, Jason Bateman (of Arrested Development), Jack Johnson with G. Love on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Part 1 (of 2) of the infamous “Puppy Show” episode of Ellen (Lifetime, 12:30am). Laura Dern and Oprah Winfrey guest star.

Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, Bob Odenkirk in The Ben Stiller Show (Comedy Central, 1am - 3am). Now available on DVD.

Tomorrow:

“Anne” and “Dead Man’s Party” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 6am, 7am).

Tom Hanks, Eric Clapton, what to do in a “frequent flier mess” on Today (NBC, 7am - 10am).

Usher, “dangerous mold” and mold removal scams on Good Morning, America (ABC, 7am - 9am).

“Cool things to do for kids and parents” on The Early Show (CBS, 7am - 9am).

Joy Philbin fills in for Kelly, with guests Tom Hanks, The Naked Chef Jamie Oliver, N.E.R.D. on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Harry Connick Jr, Kathy Griffin on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Sci-Fi mini-marathon du jour: Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 10am - 3pm).

“Xmas Story” episode of NewsRadio (Biography, Noon and 6pm).

MLB Preseason Baseball: Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Boston Red Sox (ESPN, Noon).

Reno 911! (Comedy Central, 2pm - 4pm).

Sarah Michelle Gellar (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Olivier Martinez, Brad Paisley on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

DMX, Ed Begley Jr, Marisa Miller, Ryan Hurst, Butterfly Boucher on The Sharon Osbourne Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“A Family in Crisis” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

“A Porn Star Gone Straight: The Traci Lords Story” on a rerun of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Looks like an afternoon without Buffy the Vampire Slayer on FX.

“Lullaby” episode of Angel (TNT, 4pm).

“Six Meetings Before Lunch” episode of The West Wing (Bravo, 6pm and 10pm).

On Tuesday in primetime expect new episodes of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Significant Others, The Shield, American Idol, Century City, NYPD Blue, Whoopi, Happy Family, and the season finale of America’s Next Top Model. Plus reruns of Scrubs, Gilmore Girls, Less Than Perfect, Navy NCIS, Law & Order: SVU, and others. Full details on these shows and more in my full picks for Tuesday, which should be available sometime after midnight and before Noon on Tuesday.
