News:

Contest Update: There are at least four prizes to be awarded; one to someone drawn at random from the pool of entries, one from someone who entered via email, one to someone who sent a gift, and one to someone who made a donation. I reserve the right to award more than four prizes (the trickiest part will be affording postage to mail things out to everyone!). So far I’ve received 26 entries total; 17 are email entries, 5 donations (totalling $60 overall), and 4 gifts (I’ve received two, two more are on their way). Contest details.

Daytime:

Spring break coverage continues on MTV.

Gina Torres, Jennifer Sky, and Victoria Pratt star in Cleopatra 2525 (Sci-Fi, 4am, 4:30am).

Always a Best Bet: China Beach (History Channel, 5am). McMurphy is back home because her Dad has taken ill in part 2 of the two-part season 2 finale titled “The World”. First closeup look the series takes at what’s going on in the U.S. during the war. Kathy Bates, Penny Fuller, and Megan Mullally are among the guest stars.

Tiny Toon Adventures (Nick, 5am).

On the Set: Jersey Girl (Starz, 5am).

Four episodes of the late great short-lived sketch comedy series The Ben Stiller Show (Comedy Central, 6am – 8am). Complete series is now available on DVD. Cast included: Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, and Bob Odenkirk.

Rocket Power (Nick, 6am, 6:30am).

Back to back episodes of Ally McBeal (FX, 6am, 7am) from season 4 (a.k.a. “The Robert Downey Jr. season”). Anne Heche continues her guest stint on the show, Taye Diggs begins his. With Barry Manilow and Fred Willard. Both episodes are by David E. Kelley.

SpongeBob SquarePants (Nick, 8am, 8:30am).

Trading Spaces: Family (TLC, 9am).

The Fairly Oddparents (Nick, 9am, 9:30am).

Making Of: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Bravo, 10am).

Clean Sweep (TLC, 10am), Trading Spaces (TLC, 11am), While You Were Out (TLC, Noon).

Sinking ships, firecrackers and trombones, the intelligence of goldfish on MythBusters (Discovery, 11am).

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (CBS, 11am).

Yet another airing of all three parts of Sexiest Moments in Film (Bravo, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm).

Best Bet: FX airs a marathon of the series that may be my favorite new series of this season: Arrested Development (FX, 1pm – 4pm). Episodes are “Pilot” (FX, 1pm), “Bringing Up Buster” (FX, 1:30pm), “Visiting Hours” (FX, 2pm), “Pier Pressure” (FX, 2:30pm), “Marta Complex” (FX, 3pm), “Beef Consomme” (FX, 3:30pm). Some of the best episodes from this season thus far. Funny stuff.

101 Reasons the ’90s Ruled (E!, 1pm – 6pm).

MLB Preseason Baseball: San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs (WGN, 2pm).

“Roman House” on Monster House (Discovery, 2pm).

SpongeBob SquarePants (Nick, 2pm – 5pm).

Amos ‘n’ Andy: Anatomy of a Controversy (Trio, 3pm).

What Not To Wear (TLC, 3pm), Clean Sweep (TLC, 4pm), Trading Spaces (TLC, 5pm).

Rerun of the “No Sure Thing” episode of Everwood (WB, 5pm). Great, frank episode about sex (among other things). I’m still kindof amazed at how this show deals with some touch issues with such grace (and humor).

Film essential: An American In Paris (TCM, 5pm).

“Flat is Beautiful” (pizza) episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm).

Primetime:

Nothing but shows about pizza on Food Network tonight.

“Richard Clarke discusses the Bush administration and the Sept. 11 attacks” on 60 Minutes (CBS, 6pm). It’s possible shows on CBS may start a little (or a lot) late if basketball games run long this afternoon.

It’s up to Hank to save the town from a flood on King of the Hill (FOX, 6:30pm).

Prince, Jackson Browne, the Dells, George Harrison, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top, Jann Wenner are honored on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Concert Class of 2004 (VH1, 7pm; airs again at 9:45pm, might run long). And the living members of that group jam together and with those paying tribute. I’m all about seeing Prince inducted.

Barbra Streisand on a two-hour Inside The Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 7pm and 10pm).

Homer somehow frames Marge for a DUI, which lands Marge in rehab on The Simpsons (FOX, 7pm).

New episode of Trading Spaces: Home Free (TLC, 7pm and 11pm).

Tyra Banks guest stars as a Velvelette singing “He Was Really Sayin’ Something,” Evan & Jaron guest star as The Everly Brothers singing “Wake Up Little Suzie,” Ben Taylor guest stars (and sings “In My Life”) on a new American Dreams (NBC, 7pm).

The Future Is Now: Tech Summit 2004 (MSNBC, 7pm – 9pm; rerun at 10pm; more airings later in the week). Live coverage. It’s all about the latest high tech consumer products (or something like that). Participants include: Thom Filicia (of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Mick Fleetwood, Mario Andretti, election analyst Joe Trippi. With hosts Lester Holt and Lisa Ling.

Premiere of The Last King (A&E, 7pm – 10pm; 11pm – 2am; airs again later in the week). New TV movie about Charles II. Rufus Sewell stars, with Diana Rigg, Helen McCrory, Ian McDiarmid, Martin Turner, Rupert Graves, and a bunch more folks. You can read all about it at A&E’s website.

A college baseball player is killed in what was presumably a gay bashing incident back in 1964 on a rerun of Cold Case (CBS, 7pm, may start late).

Dixon’s kids are kidnapped on Alias (ABC, 8pm). Poor Dixon. But I’m pleased with this development if it gives Carl Lumbly more to do as I love his work as Dixon and feel he just hasn’t had nearly enough to do this season. I miss having Syd and Dixon out on missions together.

Francis works to prove to his parents why it was a bad idea to kick Reese out on Malcolm in the Middle (FOX, 8pm). With this episode, Justin Berfield (Reese) becomes the first child actor (under the age of 18) to film 100 episodes of two different series (Malcolm and Unhappily Ever After).

New episode of The Sopranos (HBO, 8pm; airs again lots).

Video Game Invasion: The History of a Global Obsession (Game Show Network a.k.a. GSN, 8pm – 10pm; 11pm – 1am).

Shannon Elizabeth wants a “Bollywood Gym” on While You Were Out (TLC, 8pm and midnight).

Rebecca Gayheart guest stars on a new The Division (Lifetime, 8pm). The cast of The Division these days includes: Nancy McKeon, Bonnie Bedelia, Lisa Vidal, Taraji Henson, Jon Hamm, and Amy Jo Johnson.

Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis Stewart on Larry King Live (CNN, 8pm, 11pm, 2am).

World Pizza Championship (Food Network, 8pm and midnight).

Terry Serpico guest stars on a rerun of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC, 8pm).

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Poehler, James Lipton, Henry Winkler, and Timothy Davis-Reed guest star on a new Arrested Development (FOX, 8:30pm).

“Montana Marshal Seth Bullock relocates to a gold mining camp, where he crosses paths with Wild Bill Hickok and clashes with the boss of the Gem Saloon” on the series premiere of Deadwood (HBO, 9pm). I wish I got HBO! David Milch (of NYPD Blue) is the creator of this series, also an executive producer. Keith Carradine is Wild Bill Hickok. Timothy Olyphant plays ex-lawman Seth Bullock. Ian McShane is saloon owner Al Swearengen. With Brad Dourif, William Sanderson, Molly Parker, Timothy Omundson, Robin Weigert, John Hawekes, Dayton Callie, W. Earl Brown, Sean Bridgers, Paula Malcolmson, Leon Rippy, Ray McKinnon, Jeffrey Jones, and Garret Dillahunt. Series begins two weeks after Custer’s defeat at Little Big Horn in Deadwood, South Dakota. Worth a look if you get HBO, will air a bunch of times this week of course.

Garret Macy (Miguel Ferrer) travels to Mexico to track down a fugitive, Woody (Jerry O’Connell) and Jordan (Jill Hennessy) help from home on Crossing Jordan (NBC, 9pm). It’s great that Garret (Miguel Ferrer) is getting to take the lead on cases more this season; I hope it continues even after Hennessy’s return from leave. I still maintain that the supposedly supporting players on this show are just as good as (if not better than) Jordan (Hennessy). Note that Sunday is the show’s real timeslot, those Friday airings were just “bonus episodes.” Show should air just on Sunday from here on out. Having two new episodes air each week was apparently confusing some people.

William Shatner guest stars on a new episode of The Practice (ABC, 9pm). Marla Sokoloff is also on hand as Lucy.

Penn tricks Teller on While You Were Out (TLC, 9pm and 1am).

I enjoy Hey Remember! (HGTV, 9pm and 9:30pm) as I’m into retro home furnishings and all things pop culture.

Yet another broadcast of TV Land Awards 2004 (TV Land, 9pm). I watched this last night. How is it Lynda Carter looks even better now than she did on Wonder Woman? Brad Garrett is a good host, Eric McCormack’s song in tribute to The Mary Tyler Moore Show is fun (and kinda sweet). Tributes to The Andy Griffith Show, Gilligan’s Island, Chico and the Man, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show were cool. The aged classic Sex and the City comedy bit was surreal. I really like what TV Land is doing, it’s so nifty to see so many TV stars in the same room. Also a bit sad to see how old some of ‘em are by now and to realize how many are gone. Better to do this now than never though. And how fabulous that they named Arrested Development a future classic? Very cool.

Rerun of the second episode of this season of The Shield (FX, 9pm). From last week.

Late Night:

New episode of Home Movies (Cartoon Network, 10pm and 1am).

Rerun of Tripping the Rift (Sci-Fi, 10pm).

Another airing of the latest new episode (only the second) of Touching Evil (USA, 11pm). The new American version, that is.

Code Name: Eternity (Sci-Fi, 11pm).

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (of Late Night with Conan O’Brien) on a funny rerun of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast (Cartoon Network, 11:15pm and 2:15am).

Very first episode of Farscape (Sci-Fi, midnight).

Tomorrow:

“Becoming” part 1 & 2 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 6am, 7am). Season 2 finale.

Ben Affleck, a discussion of spring accessories on Today (NBC, 7am – 10am).

Richard Clarke, Mark Ruffalo, John Stossel, Scott Houston on Good Morning, America (ABC, 7am – 9am).

Jamie-Lynn DiScala, makeup tips for spring on The Early Show (CBS, 7am – 9am).

Ben Affleck is Regis’ co-host, with guests Darrell Hammond, Bobb’e J. Thompson (of The Tracy Morgan Show), and turkey callers on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Mary Steenburgen (of Joan of Arcadia), The Keno Brothers on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Sci-Fi mini marathon du jour: Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 10am – 3pm).

MLB Preseason Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves (ESPN, Noon).

Bill McNeal’s latest affectation is a cane on NewsRadio (Biography, Noon and 6pm).

TV Land Awards 2004 (TV Land, 2pm – 4pm).

Kirsten Dunst, Steven Weber (of The D.A.), Live, Shelby Lynne on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Horatio Sanz, Ozzy Osbourne, Christopher McDonald (of Cracking Up), Golden Brooks, Yellowcard on The Sharon Osbourne Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Booty Camp Finale” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Celebrities’ Favorite Places” on a rerun of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). With Bachelor Bob, Cindy Crawford, Harry Connick Jr, Rosie O’Donnell, and other celebs. Plus Oprah gives away dream vacations.

“Anne” and “Dead Man’s Party” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 3pm, 4pm). First episodes of season 3. Let me just say that they’re terrible episodes to start with if you haven’t seen the show before (yes, I tried starting with “Anne” once upon a time).

“Quickening” episode of Angel (TNT, 4pm).

“The White House Pro-Am” episode of The West Wing (Bravo, 6pm and 10pm).

In primetime on Monday expect new episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and a Half Men, The Bernie Mac Show, Cracking Up, Las Vegas, Still Standing, Fear Factor, and Average Joe: Adam Returns. Kevin Smith guest stars on Yes, Dear of all things. There’s a new special from John Stossel on 20/20 about “myths, lies, and downright stupidity.” Everwood is a rerun. And a Dinner & a Movie Super Chef Cook-Off. Full details on all this and more in my picks for Monday, which should be online sometime after midnight and sometime before Noon Monday.
