Picks for Sunday daytime are covered in the “tomorrow” section (towards the bottom of the page).

Best Bets:

TV Land Awards 2004 (TV Land, 7pm)
Century City (CBS, after basketball; sometime after 9pm most likely)

News:

Got some more email entries to the contest yesterday– y’all are wonderful. I honestly always hoped people found this site useful and maybe learned about some shows that ended up meaning something to them, but I never really knew if I was making a difference. So your emails mean the world to me.

Contest update: I’m guessing I’ve received a total of 25 entries thus far, most are of the email variety. Contest details. Thanks so much to everyone who has entered so far.

My trip to Minneapolis put me behind on replies to emails and on updates to the TV on DVD page. Will try to get caught up this weekend.

Rerun of parts 1 – 5 of 101 Reasons the ’90s Ruled (E!, 6pm – 11pm).

Rerun of Figure Skating: European Championships (ESPN, 6pm – 8pm).

Rerun of TV Land Awards 2004 (TV Land, 7pm). Aired earlier in the week. May run a little long. I missed it then and look forward to catching it tonight. If you’re a TV fan (especially of older shows), you’ll get a kick out of it. Brad Garrett (of Everybody Loves Raymond) hosts. Plenty of other airings this week if you can’t catch this one.

Get psyched for baseball season: World’s Best: Ballpark Foods (Travel, 7pm and 10pm); Pat Sajak’s American League Ballpark Tour (Travel, 8pm and 11pm); and Pat Sajak’s National League Ballpark Tour (Travel, 9pm and midnight).

Vincent D’Onofrio and Marisa Tomei in Happy Accidents (IFC, 7pm). Charming little movie. D’Onofrio plays a guy who thinks he’s from the future; he falls in love with a character played by Marisa Tomei. Real question of the movie is whether D’Onofrio is really from the future or if he’s crazy.

Shaq and Terrell Owens guest star on The Tracy Morgan Show (NBC, 7pm, 7:30pm).

Another airing of the new Disney movie Going to the Mat (Disney, 7pm). A blind high school student, looking for a way to fit in, joins the wrestling team. Andrew Lawrence, Khleo Thomas, Billy Aaron Brown star. With Brenda Strong (of Everwood, Sports Night, The Help), Wayne Brady, D.B. Sweeney, Brett Yoder, and Brian Wimmer (of China Beach).

Cheerleading: National High-School Championship, Varsity and Coed (ESPN, 8pm).

Courtney Thorne-Smith and Tracey Gold vie for the affections of Kyle Secor in the terrible TV movie Midwest Obsession (Lifetime, 8pm).

Couple of episodes of The Brini Maxwell Show (Style, 8pm and 11pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm).

Barry Bostwick guest stars on a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm).

Bobby Trendy (of The Anna Nicole Show) and Elaine Griffin are the “expert designers” who help transform the homes of bachelors on the series premiere of Bachelor Pad (ABC Family, 9pm). Mark Curry (of Hanging Mr. Cooper) hosts.

“Sweet Child Of Mine” episode of Century City (CBS, after basketball; sometime after 9pm most likely). I’ve seen this episode and liked it quite a bit. Richard Thomas guest stars as a genetic scientist who withheld some data about unborn children from potential parents. The data withheld? What the sexual orientation of the child would be. Really interesting case and anyone who isn’t moved to a tear or two is a tougher person than I. I’m not sure airing the show after basketball will get it many viewers, though. As with the first episode, I think the second case in the episode is weak. (I wrote more about Century City on Tuesday when it premiered).

“Battle Asparagus” on Iron Chef (Food Network, 9pm and 1am).

Only 9 left to sing about love on Nashville Star (USA, 9pm and 11pm).

Reruns of the first two episodes of this new season of The Shield (FX, 9pm, 10pm). Both episodes were directed by Clark Johnson (of Homicide).

Late Night:

JC Chasez on MAD TV (FOX, 10pm).

Brent Spiner and Margaret Colin guest star on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (USA, 10pm). Creepy and cool rerun from a couple weeks ago on NBC.

Jerry O’Connell, Wallace Shawn, and Mariel Hemingway guest star on Crossing Jordan (A&E, 10pm).

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey host a rerun of Saturday Night Live (NBC, check your local listings). With musical guest G-Unit performs with 50 Cent.

Superhero-tastic: Batman (TV Land, 11pm, 11:30pm), The Adventures of Superman (TV Land, midnight), and Shazam! (TV Land, 12:30am). Vincent Price is Eggman on Batman.

Another airing of this week’s new episode of The Chris Isaak Show (Showtime, midnight).

Toon Heads: The Early Works of Hanna & Barbera (Cartoon Network, 1am).

Tomorrow / Sunday:

Spring break coverage continues on MTV.

Gina Torres, Jennifer Sky, and Victoria Pratt star in Cleopatra 2525 (Sci-Fi, 4am, 4:30am).

Always a Best Bet: China Beach (History Channel, 5am). McMurphy is back home because her Dad has taken ill in part 2 of the two-part season 2 finale titled “The World”. First closeup look the series takes at what’s going on in the U.S. during the war. Kathy Bates, Penny Fuller, and Megan Mullally are among the guest stars.

Tiny Toon Adventures (Nick, 5am).

On the Set: Jersey Girl (Starz, 5am).

Four episodes of the late great short-lived sketch comedy series The Ben Stiller Show (Comedy Central, 6am – 8am). Complete series is now available on DVD. Cast included: Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, and Bob Odenkirk.

Rocket Power (Nick, 6am, 6:30am).

Back to back episodes of Ally McBeal (FX, 6am, 7am) from season 4 (a.k.a. “The Robert Downey Jr. season”). Anne Heche continues her guest stint on the show, Taye Diggs begins his. With Barry Manilow and Fred Willard. Both episodes are by David E. Kelley.

Fred Astaire dances on the ceiling in Royal Wedding (TCM, 7am). With Jane Powell and Peter Lawford.

Powerpuff Girls (Cartoon Network, 7:30am).

John Sayles’ magical The Secret of Roan Inish (Sundance, 8am).

Social security, a legendary dog race, Joan Baez; basketball with donkeys on CBS News Sunday Morning (CBS, 8am).

SpongeBob SquarePants (Nick, 8am, 8:30am).

Trading Spaces: Family (TLC, 9am).

The Fairly Oddparents (Nick, 9am, 9:30am).

Making Of: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Bravo, 10am).

Clean Sweep (TLC, 10am), Trading Spaces (TLC, 11am), While You Were Out (TLC, Noon).

Sinking ships, firecrackers and trombones, the intelligence of goldfish on MythBusters (Discovery, 11am).

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (CBS, 11am).

Yet another airing of all three parts of Sexiest Moments in Film (Bravo, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm).

Best Bet: FX airs a marathon of the series that may be my favorite new series of this season: Arrested Development (FX, 1pm – 4pm). Episodes are “Pilot” (FX, 1pm), “Bringing Up Buster” (FX, 1:30pm), “Visiting Hours” (FX, 2pm), “Pier Pressure” (FX, 2:30pm), “Marta Complex” (FX, 3pm), “Beef Consomme” (FX, 3:30pm). Some of the best episodes from this season thus far. Funny stuff.

101 Reasons the ’90s Ruled (E!, 1pm – 6pm).

MLB Preseason Baseball: San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs (WGN, 2pm).

“Roman House” on Monster House (Discovery, 2pm).

SpongeBob SquarePants (Nick, 2pm – 5pm).

Amos ‘n’ Andy: Anatomy of a Controversy (Trio, 3pm).

What Not To Wear (TLC, 3pm), Clean Sweep (TLC, 4pm), Trading Spaces (TLC, 5pm).

Rerun of the “No Sure Thing” episode of Everwood (WB, 5pm). Great, frank episode about sex (among other things). I’m still kindof amazed at how this show deals with some touch issues with such grace (and humor).

Film essential: An American In Paris (TCM, 5pm).

“Flat is Beautiful” (pizza) episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm).

In primetime on Sunday expect new episodes of Arrested Development, Alias, American Dreams, Crossing Jordan, The Practice, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, The Division, Trading Spaces: Home Free, Dream Job, The L Word, and The Sopranos. Series premiere of Deadwood. Food Network has 6 hours of Pizza-related programming. TLC has two celebrity episodes of While You Were Out (with Shannon Elizabeth, Penn & Teller). Barbra Streisand on a two-hour edition of Inside The Actors Studio. Prince, Jackson Browne, the Dells, George Harrison, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top, Jann Wenner are honored on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Concert Class of 2004. And more! Yes, that’s a lot of stuff. I’ll cover it all in more detail in the full version of my picks for Sunday, which I hope to have done by Noon Sunday if not sooner.
