Best Bets:

I’m leaving it up to you. What looks good? Me? I’ll probably watch a DVD or something on my Tivo.

News:

ABC lied to us, they’re cancelling Karen Sisco after all. Argh. Three episodes have been completed that haven’t yet aired, will let you know if they ever turn up on ABC and/or USA (or elsewhere). Yes, this is crummy news. Sorry.

The Sharon Osbourne Show has been canceled. Huh. Ellen’s show is way better, but Sharon’s show has had some good moments. I’m a bit surprised.

Both American Dreams and Las Vegas will return to NBC next season. UPN has picked up America’s Next Top Model for a couple more seasons or whatever you wanna call each edition of the show. Showtime has already picked up The L Word for another season.

Good article about TV on DVD. Don’t forget to visit the TVPicks.net TV on DVD page, which was around long before other websites re TV on DVD and before there were so many articles about this trend. We always knew it was a good idea!

Daytime:

Lotsa Saturday morning cartoons to choose from.

Al Green is in the first episode a lot and Michael Badalucco makes a brief appearance as his character from The Practice. Jason Gedrick and Ray Walston guest star in the second episode. Both episodes were written by David E. Kelley.

The Critic (Comedy Central, 7am, 7:30am).

The Screaming Skull on Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Sci-Fi, 8am-10am). Last chance to see MST3K on the Sci-Fi channel, this is the end of the series contract there. There’s also a Gumby short in this episode. For all things MST3K, visit the official site at www.mst3kinfo.com. One hopes the show will turn up on some other station sometime soon. Would be cool to see some older episodes again. Of course some episodes are available on DVD, if you need a fix.

SpongeBob SquarePants (Nick, 8am, 8:30am).

Tacos and Guacamole on How to Boil Water (Food Network, 9am).

Remember when Esmeralda straightened the Leaning Tower of Pisa on Bewitched (TV Land, 9am and 8:30pm)? I do. Followed by an episode of I Dream Of Jeannie (TV Land, 9:30am ) that features young Bill Mumy.

First two episodes of ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave (MTV, 3pm, 3:30pm; 7pm and 7:30pm). It’s basically the “making of” Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro’s wedding.

Super Bowl Road Show (ESPN Classic, 3pm).

Bands Reunited: Kajagoogoo (VH1, 4pm).

Lucky Breaks (Biography Channel, 4:30pm; rerun Sunday at 12:30pm) sounds like a cool show. Here’s the description for today’s new episode: “In a half-hour series devoted to those incredibly lucky moments, writers talk about their early breaks, including: Jacqueline Mitchard (Deep End of the Ocean); the British literary giant Margaret Drabble (The Seven Sisters); Josephine Hart (Damage); playwright and screenwriter Brad Fraser (Unidentified Human Remains); columnist Candace Bushnell, who created the TV series Sex and the City, which was based on her book by the same name; and Peter Benchley (Jaws).”

Primetime:

Food network programming tonight is all about chili.

The Moth (Trio, 6pm, 7pm) is a show that’s “an evening of storytelling.” The episode that airs at 6pm is titled “Relationship Wars” and the host is Fisher Stevens, with storytellers Jacalyn Barnett, Doug Liman, Meg Wolitzer, Jason Kordelos, and Adam Gopnik. The episode that airs at 7pm is titled “Hitting Bottom” and it’s hosted by George Green, with storytellers Richard Price, Jim Carroll, Lisa Kron, Edgar Oliver, and Dina Pearlman. I wish I could get Trio.

Miss The 61st Annual Golden Globe Awards last weekend? You can see rebroadcasts of both the painful pre-show (Bravo, 6pm) and the award show (Bravo, 7pm and 10pm) on Bravo. Not sure it’s worth the trouble, though. If you’re gonna watch award shows, I recommend recording them to Tivo or tape and then when you watch you can fast forward through both the commercials and the boring stuff. At least The Golden Globes usually end on time.

Vertigo (TCM, 7pm).

The 2004 Lynn Swann All-Star MVParty (Spike, 7pm).

“Derrick and Jimmy volunteer in a church program that takes food to the elderly” and Tracy goes on jury duty on The Tracy Morgan Show (NBC, 7pm).

Dog Show : AKC Eukanuba National Championship (Animal Planet & Discovery Channel, 7pm).

New episode of Teen Titans (Cartoon Network, 8pm) which is all about Cyborg, who ends up fighting Atlas. With Keith David as Atlas.

American Film Theater: Rhinoceros (Trio, 8pm and 11pm). I’m just lifting the description from their website, ‘cuz they nail it and I’m feeling lazy just now: “An absurdist play by Eugene Ionesco, Rhinoceros tells the story of a French town plagued by rhinoceroses. These however are not ordinary rhinos, but townspeople who have fallen victim to rhinoceritis. Or perhaps it is something else entirely. Zero Mostel recreates the role of John, which he played on Broadway, and Gene Wilder stars as Stanley in this brilliantly funny film adaptation. However funny, the piece tackles the serious theme of individuality and idiosyncrasy in a world of conformity.” It is available on DVD. I know the play isn’t for everyone (I know folks who hate it), so I’m guessing the movie version is like that too.

Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials (CBS, 8pm).

Case involves a carjacking and SARS on a rerun of Law & Order (NBC, 7:59pm).

George Segal, Michael Boatman, and Daphne Zuniga all guest star in a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 8:59pm).

Toby Keith’s Shock’n Y’all Super Bowl Party (CMTV, 9pm).

Bunch of episodes of Cyborg 009 (Cartoon Network, starting at 9pm).

Psycho (TCM, 9:30pm).

Late Night:

Jessica Alba on a new MAD TV (FOX, 10pm).

“An anonymous letter prompts a man’s body to be exhumed for an autopsy” on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (USA, 10pm). An episode that aired on NBC a couple of weeks ago. Claire Bloom, Casey Siemaszko, and Sal Richards guest star in an episode directed by Jean de Segonzac.

Couple of episodes of Bakersfield, P.D. (Trio, 10pm, 10:30pm).

Alec Baldwin hosts (a rerun of) Saturday Night Live (NBC, check your local listings). With musical guest Missy Elliott.

Joe Nichols, Jessica Andrews on Austin City Limits (PBS, check your local listings).

Another airing of MTV’s Super Bowl Friday Night (MTV, 11pm).

Another airing of this week’s new episode of The Chris Isaak Show (Showtime, 11pm). Wherein Chris wants to install a steam room in his home.

Superhero-tastic: Batman (TV Land, 11pm, 11:30pm), The Adventures of Superman (TV Land, midnight), and Shazam! (TV Land, 12:30am). Okay, Shazam! is just embarassing.

ESPN2 starts airing Super Bowl highlights at midnight.

Tomorrow:

China Beach (History Channel, 5am).

Will get the rest of the picks for Sunday online sometime on Saturday (if I’m lucky) or (more likely) by Noon or 1pm Sunday.
