Best Bets:

Wim Wenders segment of The Blues (PBS, check your local listings)
Everwood (WB, 8pm)
Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm)
Las Vegas (NBC, 8pm)
Denzel Washington, the New York Philharmonic, Randy Newman on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

News:

You can now pre-order Season 4 of Babylon 5 on DVD.

Sorry these picks are late today. And since some of you have asked: my Mom is home from the hospital and doing just fine. Very happy to be home. And we’re all relieved it wasn’t anything serious.

Finding these picks useful as the new TV season starts? Spread the word about the site (politely, please). It’s also a really good time to send a donation or just an email with a kind word or two. Thanks to everyone who has been shopping via the links to amazon.com on this site, that really helps! And, as always, thank you for your emails and continued readership.

Don’t forget to check out the 2003-04 Fall Schedule Grid (with premiere dates) and the TV on DVD page.

Daytime:

If you don’t get Cartoon Network, but do get TBS, you can still see Futurama (TBS, 1pm weekdays) and Family Guy (TBS, 1:30pm weekdays).

John Larroquette, Greta Van Susteren, Jennifer Garner, Jim Belushi, Marc Blucas on The Wayne Brady Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Daryl Hannah, Kate Bosworth, and a six-year-old geography wiz kid on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated, check your local listings). More info.

Julio Iglesias, Jr., Jack Osbourne on the set of the new Olsen twins movie, Dominic Monaghan (of Lord of the Rings), Paul Rodriguez on The Sharon Osbourne Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge – One on One with Dr. Phil” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Oprah Goes to California” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). With Kelsey Grammer, Jane Seymour, and the son of John Steinbeck. Yup, it’s a book club episode.

“Checkpoint” and “Blood Ties” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 3pm, 4pm).

“The Lame Duck Congress” episode of The West Wing (Bravo, 6pm and 10pm).

Primetime:

More of The Blues (PBS, check your local listings). This segment was put together by Wim Wenders.

Donald O’Connor is profiled on Biography (A&E, 7pm and 11pm). He passed away so they’re airing this episode instead of the originally scheduled one.

It’s “They Hated It” night on TLC as three infamous episodes of Trading Spaces (TLC, 7pm and 10pm, 8pm and 11pm, 9pm and midnight) are rebroadcast. Episodes where at least one homeowner hated the results. And tonight they’ll be airing with new (well since they originally aired) followup interviews with homeowners and designers.

They build an “old west house” on Monster House (Discovery, 7pm and 10pm).

Simon wants to graduate early and he runs into another PK (preacher’s kid) in an unexpected place on 7th Heaven (WB, 7pm).

Desiree takes Tae-Bo classes on The Parkers (UPN, 7pm).

One of the kids on Yes, Dear (CBS, 7pm) loves comic books so much he starts wearing a cape.

Marcia Cross arrives in Everwood (WB, 8pm) as Dr. Abbott’s sister who’s been off learning and practicing alternative medicine. Could stir things up a little among the doctors, I’m just saying.

It’s all about thank-you notes on Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm).

Las Vegas (NBC, 8pm). The body of Danny’s childhood friend Greg is found. And there’s a big mess involving a Senator. Worth watching? Maybe. The first episode wasn’t bad, but wasn’t all that good either. I’d pick Everwood over this any day, but since there’s no show I’m interested in on at 9pm, I may try to watch both for at least a little while. James Caan is fun to watch, if nothing else.

“Pizza” and “Pasta” on Unwrapped (Food Network; 8pm and 11pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm).

“Charlie does not know how to discipline Jake for luring a flock of sea gulls into his room” on Two and a Half Men (CBS, 8:30pm).

Season premiere of Third Watch (NBC, 9pm) picks up where last season left off. Presumably resolves that cliffhanger. If you’re wondering what happened to Crossing Jordan, it was picked up for another season, but new episodes won’t start airing ’til midseason ‘cuz star Jill Hennesy took time off to have a baby.

“A modern-day treasure hunter is found skewered to his yacht with a harpoon” on C.S.I. Miami (CBS, 9pm).

Late Night:

Mo’Nique, Eryka Badu on The Orlando Jones Show (FX, 10pm).

Jack Black on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Patrice Oneal, Greg Giraldo, Jeffrey Ross, Ralphie May on a rerun of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Futurama (Cartoon Network, 10:30pm).

Denzel Washington, the New York Philharmonic, Randy Newman, latest Survivor castoff on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Kevin Bacon, Quentin Tarantino, the Mavericks on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

First two episodes of The X-Files (TNT, 11pm, midnight).

Sean William Scott, Oliver Martinez, the Jayhawks on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Evander Holyfield, Daryl Hannah, guest co-host Kermit the Frog on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings, probably late ‘cuz of football).

The Rock, Amber Tamblyn, Kings of Leon on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn (CBS, check your local listings).

Sarah Wynter, Lifehouse on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Classic episodes of SportsNight (Comedy Central, 1am-3am).

Tomorrow:

Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Jack Black on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Whoopi Goldberg, Judy Reyes, guest co-host Patricia Lopez on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Randy Quaid, Jean Smart, Gavin Degraw on The Wayne Brady Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Danny Devito, Faith Ford, Maroon 5, and a card-stacking champion on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated, check your local listings). More info.

Mekhi Phifer, Tammy Faye, Stereophonics, and Sharon learns about a program to keep pregnant teens in school on The Sharon Osbourne Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge – The Final Cut” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).
