News:

Okay, I think I’m better enough and that things have settled down with my family enough that the picks should be back for good now. Back to every day or almost every day. Will also attempt to start having ‘em done by Noon each day and eventually by earlier than that.

I’ve decided to launch another mailing list– this one for those people interested in releases of TV on DVD, you can sign up on the TV on DVD page. I expect to send out an email about once a week which lists which TV DVDs are due out that week, which DVDs have been recently announced and recently made available for pre-order. Stuff like that. TV DVD news.

I made a major update to the TV on DVD page as I’d fallen a bit behind. Lots of new releases now available or available for pre-order. Visit that page for the full list. Some of the coolest, IMHO: Space Ghost Coast to Coast, The Tick, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, Season 2 of Farscape, Season 1 of The Dick Van Dyke Show (and Season 2 too), Season 4 of The Sopranos, more Wiseguy, Season 1 of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Season 1 of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit, and more.

Daytime:

“Men Who Cheat” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

“The Crocodile Hunter” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Miss Late Night with Conan O’Brien last night? Catch the rerun today (Comedy Central, 5pm). The show opened with Conan & company in street clothes, on a rather dark stage, explaining about the blackout and that the studio audience was sent away and guests couldn’t be admitted to the building. An interesting and honest (and funny, of course) opening ten minutes or so, before they threw to a backup episode (i.e. rerun) that featured guests Mark Wahlberg & Jeri Ryan.

“Lover’s Walk” and “The Wish” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm, 6pm).

Primetime:

Baseball: Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers (WGN, 7pm).

Ted McGinley and Stacy Keach star in Frozen Impact (PAX, 7pm). A new TV movie. ” While his son waits for a liver transplant, a man races against time to retrieve the organ from a plane crash.”

Back to back episodes of While You Were Out (TLC, 7pm, 8pm; 10pm, 11pm). Room or yard makeovers done in one day with $1500.

Rerun of this week’s episode of The O.C. (FOX, 8pm). I finally watched the pilot episode and liked it quite a bit. I agree with Lisa’s review over at Teevee.org. I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode (‘cuz I, TVPicks Gal, managed to forget to Tivo this episode the last time it aired. Definitely time to put in a season pass).

My favorite series of the summer? That’d be Monk (USA, 9pm and 11pm). This season has improved on last season. Such a fun show, I look forward to it every week. In tonight’s episode, Monk investigates a publisher (who happens to be a playboy) in “Mr. Monk Meets The Playboy.” Gary Cole and Danny Bonaduce guest star.

I sometimes think Bringing Up Baby (TCM, 9pm) is the funniest film ever made. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, it’s also a comfort movie for me– when I’m down, I just need to watch this movie and I’ll feel much better. Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and a leopard star in this fabulous Howard Hawks film.

Detectives set a trap for a trio of killers who prey on families while they sleep on Boomtown (NBC, 9pm).

Baseball: Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners (ESPN, 9pm).

Late Night:

Rerun of this week’s episode of Peacemakers (USA, 10pm). It’s a good show.

Pilot episode of C.S.I. (TNN, 10pm). See the series from the beginning.

Harrison Ford, Annie Lennox on a rerun of The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Jackie Chan, the Fab 5 of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Sean Paul on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Lucky Katharine Hepburn is torn between Cary Grant and James Stewart in The Philadelphia Story (TCM, 11pm), another of my favorite movies of all time.

Donnie Wahlberg (of Boomtown), Jesse L. Martin (of Law & Order) on a rerun of The Caroline Rhea Show (ABC Family, 11pm).

Kitschen: Welcome Back, Kotter (TV Land, 11pm); Soap (TV Land, 11:30pm); Square Pegs (TV Land, midnight); Fernwood 2Night (TV Land, 12:30am).

Kelly Rowland, the Polyphonic Spree on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm). Don’t know if any of yesterday’s scheduled guests will be on tonight, but it might be possible (Melanie Griffith, Shia LaBoeuf, Dandy Warhols).

Guest co-host Super Dave Osborne on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

William Shatner, Junior Senior on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Matthew Modine, Aaron Boone, Kim Cattrall, Mitch Fatel, animal expert Jarod Miller, Smash Mouth on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Holiday (TCM, 1am).

Tomorrow:

Steve McQueen is the star du jour on TCM.

Will have picks for Saturday online later tonight or early tomorrow with any luck. After midnight, probably.
