News:

I’m back. Tired and a bit sick and with a lot of work (and TV) to catch up on, but I’m back.

My boyfriend Kevin is out of the hospital and doing just fine now, will have a hard cast on his arm for at least 5 weeks. He broke both major bones in his forearm, plus a bone in his wrist; they operated and put two metal plates and a bunch of screws into his arm. Yikes. He’s tired and in pain, but okay. I’m very glad I was able to spend a week with him after his hospital stay, until he got a hard cast. My Grandma is doing better, though still not great, she sees a specialist on August 12th. They took her off of some of the medications she was on and her bloodwork looked much better so perhaps her kidneys aren’t in as bad of shape as it first appeared. We’ll find out more at her next couple of doctor’s appointments.

I was back home on Monday, but was knocked flat with a major cold or virus of some sort. Weird headache at the base of my skull, and focused on my eyes and ears (which made looking at a computer monitor the last thing I wanted to do). Also really bad sore throat, aches and pains. I’m glad that Kevin doesn’t appear to have caught whatever this is. Today my throat is much better and the headache is mostly gone so I hope the worst is over. Will try to get back to a normal schedule around here by the end of the week. As you might imagine, I have lots to catch up at home and with my various web projects. Feel bad I didn’t get picks done yesterday as there was a lot on– sorry about that.

Remember how I said you could pre-order Season 5 of Buffy as well as that Firefly set? You really could for a few days. Amazon.com now shows both as “out of stock.” They will be available for pre-order again soon, release date for both remains in October.

Daytime:

Baseball: Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox (ESPN, 1pm). It’s an AL Central battle.

Wanda Sykes, Jana Marie Hupp (of Ed) on a rerun of The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“What Dr. Phil Knows About Men” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

Rerun of the “Oprah’s Practical Jokes” episode of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). With guest Jamie Kennedy.

Rerun of the pilot episode of Peacemakers (USA, 6pm). “As modern technology comes to the West, an old-fashioned federal marshal and his young partner investigate a murder.” Tom Berenger stars. Some have called it “C.S.I. in the Old West.” Peter O’Meara and Amy Carlson also star.

Alas, no Buffy the Vampire Slayer tonight on FX.

VH1 is airing their 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons shows a whole bunch.

Primetime:

A different star is featured each day this month on Turner Classic Movies. Today’s star? One of my favorites: Robert Mitchum. Movies that Mitchum starred in airing today include: Crossfire (TCM, 1pm); Where Danger Lives (TCM, 2:30pm); Two for the Seesaw (TCM, 4pm, letterboxed); Macao (TCM, 7pm); The Night of the Hunter (TCM, 8:30pm, letterboxed); Thunder Road (TCM, 10:15pm); The Story of G.I. Joe (TCM, midnight); Blood on the Moon (TCM, 2am); and Young Billy Young (TCM, 3:30am, letterboxed). And you can see Robert Osborne talk with screen legends Robert Mitchum & Jane Russell in 1996 on Private Screenings: Mitchum/Russell (TCM, 6:15pm).

Jonathan Winters is profiled on Biography (A&E, 7pm and 11pm).

Engaged couples compete for a dream wedding on Race to the Altar (NBC, 7pm).

Jonathan Taylor Thomas guest stars on Smallville (WB, 7pm).

John Prine on Sessions at West 54th (Trio, 7pm).

Cameras follow Roseanne as she develops a new TV show on the series premiere of The Real Roseanne Show (ABC, 8pm-9pm). Should be fun! And funny.

Part 1 of the 2-part episode “Inauguration” on The West Wing (NBC, 8pm).

“True Brew IV: Take Stock” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm). All about making stock.

“A magician (Xander Berkeley) decides to pass on his famous trick to a rival; a baby sitter (Jessica Simpson) fears a child’s doll collection is linked to the disappearance of previous sitters” on The Twilight Zone (UPN, 8pm).

They build gliders on Junkyard Wars (TLC, 8pm and 11pm).

“Kenny Dies” and “Red Hot Catholic Love” episodes of South Park (Comedy Central, 8:30pm, 9pm).

“Stone begins to doubt the guilt of a young man who is about to be executed” on a new episode of Peacemakers (USA, 9pm).

Second season premiere of Street Time (Showtime, 9pm).

New series Take This Job (A&E, 9pm) looks at interesting professions, I guess. Tonight: celebrity photographers and bounty hunters.

“The lead suspect in a murder claims his knowledge of the crime came from a psychic vision” on Law & Order (NBC, 9pm).

The officers compete in a scavenger hunt for two tickets to an upcoming execution on Reno 911! (Comedy Central, 9:30pm). Yes, really.

Late Night:

Robert Duvall on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Billy Gardell, Jennifer Love Hewitt on The Orlando Jones Show (FX, 10pm).

Denis Leary, Nick DiPaolo, Patrice Oneal on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn (Comedy Central, 10:30pm and 12:30am).

Samuel L. Jackson, Rick Reilly, Pharrell, Clipse on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm). I caught last night’s episode, with Colin Farrell, and was reminded how much I love this show (and Dave & company). Still one of the funniest and coolest shows on TV. It works, even if you don’t care about the guests.

Last Comic Standing winner Dat Phan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tara Reid, Jewel on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Colin Farrell, Molly Shannon, Smash Mouth on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Jeff Richards, Jonathan Abrams, guest co-host Macy Gray on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).

Candace Bushnell, Nick Swardson, Anthony Michael Hall on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Eddie Kaye Thomas, Paul Teutul, Jr. & Paul Teutul, Sr., Junior Senior on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
