Due to a couple of family emergencies, Laurel is taking a break from doing TV picks until August 1st or possibly August 4th or later. Thanks for your patience! For details, see her weblog or journal.

Don’t forget to visit the TV on DVD page, I recently added a bunch of new series to the list (including some very cool ones that are forthcoming).

Series airing new episodes this summer which are worth watching: Monk (USA Fridays, 9pm and 11pm, reruns during the week); Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (Tuesday nights on Bravo, with reruns airing during the week); Reno911! (Comedy Central, Tuesday nights); MI-5 (Tuesday nights on A&E, reruns during the week, not entirely new as it aired in the UK); Trading Spaces & Trading Spaces Family (both on TLC, new episodes on Saturday and Sunday night, reruns all the time). My favorite series of the Reality Bunch: The Amazing Race (on CBS) and The Restaurant (on NBC). And of course the various late night talk shows frequently have new episodes, the best of this lot are The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight Monday-Thursday), The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm weeknights), and Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm weeknights).

Best Reruns You Might Not Know Are On The Air: China Beach on the History Channel at 5am most Sundays, Sports Night still airs on Comedy Central (though on a kindof irregular schedule), Now and Again (Sci-Fi, most Sunday nights at midnight), and Hill Street Blues (Bravo, weekdays at 1pm).

Best Bets for Thursday, July 24th:

Keen Eddie (FOX, 7pm)
Scrubs (NBC, 7:30pm)
C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm)
Kyle Secor on Without A Trace (CBS, 9pm)
Joaquin Phoenix, Scott Thompson, Cheap Trick on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm)

News:

After Friends leaves the airwaves, NBC will air a spinoff called Joey with Matt LeBlanc starring in it as the character he played on Friends all these years.

I updated the mailing list page for this site. That’s where you can go to learn more about subscribing to the tvpicks.net mailing list, it’s also where you go to subscribe or unsubscribe. We’ve left topica.com at long last, the list is now ad free! I still recommend reading the picks on this site itself, but the emails are a great way to be notified when this site is updated. (Other ways? If you have a livejournal, put the user “tvpicks” on your “friends list.” If you have a blogroll or something like that, I do ping weblogs.com when this site is updated).

If you’ve got a weblog or some other sort of website, have you linked to this site lately? Remind folks this site exists and that I’m back from vacation. (If you’d like to use a button to link to the site, you can find some on the About page).

You can now pre-order Season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD. You can also pre-order Firefly on DVD (which will come with a bunch of extras, including unaired episodes).
