tuesday
I’m taking today (Wednesday) off from TV Picks, will be back with picks for Thursday tomorrow. I’m moving this month and have a lot to do. Check out Tom Heald’s Remote Patrol, TV Barn, Teevee, TV Tattle, and Sue Trowbridge’s Late Night Lineups for listings, suggestions, commentary, and news coverage.
Lauren Graham (of Gilmore Girls) is on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm) tonight, that’s the only thing I’m watching this evening. Well, I may watch Josh Hartnett and Sarah Vowell on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm) too.
[The picks you see below are actually for yesterday (Tuesday). So of little use to you now!]
Keen Eddie (FOX, 8pm)
Series premiere of Last Comic Standing (NBC, 8pm-10pm; airs again Saturday on Comedy Central)
Less Than Perfect (ABC, 8:30pm)
Lucky (FX, 9pm)
Series premiere of The Osbournes (MTV, 9:30pm)
Bruce Willis on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)
At long last, you can order all three Indiana Jones movies on DVD, they’re due out on November 4th (I consider this TV-related ‘cuz of the Young Indiana Jones series, okay?).
Big news for TV fans: you can now pre-order Season 1 of ER on DVD, the set is due out on August 26th and will include a ton of extras (yay!). Remember when ER was actually pretty good? This set should remind you. Is it too much to ask that someone release season 1 of Chicago Hope to DVD on the same day? That’d be cool.
Did you buy me something from my wishlist? Turns out someone bought me a subscription to Entertainment Weekly– thanks! (I haven’t yet received a card or anything to indicate this person’s identity). My birthday is less than a month away, I’ll consider this an early birthday present just because I can. Did I mention I’m moving to South Dakota? I’m gonna need all the entertainment I can get.
Cowboy Bebop – The Movie is due out on DVD on June 24th.
A sequel to the V miniseries and series is in the works. (DVDs of the original miniseries are pretty cheap).
DVDs of season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer should be available in stores today.
Don’t forget to visit the tvpicks.net TV on DVD page to see a full list of series now available or coming soon to DVD.
The 2003-04 fall TV schedule grid is still available.
Dave Foley, Scott Thompson, Kevin McDonald (of The Kids in the Hall) on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
David Boreanaz (of Angel), John Edward, Kelly Hu, Billy Gilman on a rerun of The Wayne Brady Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Take It Off!” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings). Revealing authentic selves. Woman removes makeup and goes out in public, guy goes out without a hat for the first time in 20 years, etc.
“Life After American Idol” with guests Ruben, Clay, and Justin on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Fool For Love” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm).

Back to back reruns of Smallville (WB, 8pm; rerun on Sunday). In both of ‘em, Clark gets to be a bit . . . bad. ‘Cuz of red kryptonite and parasites. Should be more fun than usual, I’m thinking. Part of “double up” week on the WB.
Cirque du Soleil: Dralion (Bravo, 7pm).
“Mac and Sturgis defend two SEALs who say they believed a deadly car chase was part of a training exercise” on JAG (CBS, 7pm). Dean Stockwell, Isabella Hofmann, Tamlyn Tomita, Doug Savant, and Judson Mills may be among the guest stars.
Terry Bradshaw guest stars on 8 Simple Rules (ABC, 7pm).
A few people tell me that they liked Keen Eddie (FOX, 8pm), found it fun summer entertainment. I finally saw a commercial for it and it does look like fun, I may give it a shot tonight.
Series premiere of Last Comic Standing (NBC, 8pm). Jay Mohr hosts this reality series where comedians compete for good gigs on talk shows and such stuff. Kinda like Big Brother but with funny people. Or, um, something. I actually think this sounds like one of the more promising reality series, but I’m no expert. “Comedians compete for an exclusive talent contract.” First episode features a regional recap and LA semi-finals, second episode (NBC, 9pm) shows New York semifinals. Here’s the official website. First episodes cover the auditions, later on the comics move into a house together and the fun really begins. I think episodes will air again on Comedy Central this Saturday.
Season premiere of Ground Force (BBC America, 8pm).
“Nick represents James’ nephew when he refuses to reveal the gang members who attacked him” The Guardian (CBS, 8pm). Reasons to check this show out: Dabney Coleman, Wendy Moniz, and Alan Rosenberg. And that Simon Baker guy.
“Jealous Kipp tricks Claude into hurting her dearest friends” on Less Than Perfect (ABC, 8:30pm). Andy Dick, Andrea Parker, and Eric Roberts are in the cast of this show– I wouldn’t have been able to tell you that a few weeks ago (bad me).
New Lucky (FX, 9pm).
Cirque du Soleil: Saltimbanco (Bravo, 9pm).
“Dead women are found in a vacant lot with bound hands and feet” on NYPD Blue (ABC, 9pm).
“Amy is asked to alter the custody arrangement of a 6-year-old girl who says she was molested by her father; Michael lobbies to get full custody of Lauren after hearing about Jason Lobdel’s murder” on Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm). My parents are still miffed by how this series ended this season, they say it reminded them of the worst of Providence with the gratuitous angst in the season finale (plus they still contend that Amy is one of the dumbest characters on TV).
Baseball: Atlanta Braves at Oakland A’s (TBS, 9pm).
Season premiere of The Osbournes (MTV, 9:30pm). Reruns air from 5pm-8pm.
Newt Gingrich on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Bruce Willis, Damien Rice on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Josh Hartnett, Heart on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Four episodes of Cirque du Soleil: Fire Within (Bravo, 11pm-1am).
Julianna Margulies, Jewel on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Cheri Oteri, Bone Crusher, guest co-host Jay Mohr on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC, check your local listings).
John Corbett, Bobby Lee on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
Geraldo Rivera, Brendan Benson on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
Bruce Willis, Paul O’Neill on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).
Juliette Binoche, Eric Schlosser, guest co-host Carnie Wilson on The View (ABC, check your local listings).
Mariska Hargitay, Frenchie Davis on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
Camryn Manheim, Ty Pennington, Leonard Maltin, animal expert Jarod Miller on a rerun of The Wayne Brady Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Fighting in Front of Your Kids” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Dads Who Rock!” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).
