Best Bets | News | Daytime | Primetime | Late Night | Tomorrow

Best Bets:

That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm)
24 (FOX, 8pm)
Part 2 (of 10) of Taken (Sci-Fi, 8pm, 10pm, midnight)

News:

Season 1 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is now available for pre-order on DVD. Release date is February 18th. Yay! Deep Space Nine really is my favorite of the Star Trek series (other than the original, of course, which will always be near and dear to my heart).

Season 3 of M*A*S*H is now available for pre-order on DVD. Release date is February 18th.

Season 2 of All In The Family is now available for pre-order on DVD. Release date is February 4th.

Yes! At long last, Red Dwarf will be released on DVD in the United States. Series 1 and Series 2 are now available for pre-order, will be released on February 25th.

You can now pre-order Season 1 of NYPD Blue on DVD. Release date is March 18th.

I update the TV on DVD page as I hear about the release of more TV on DVD. The DVDs mentioned above have been added, as well as links to info about the release of The Osbournes and other series on DVD. Latest additions are listed in bold. If you hear about something I haven’t yet listed, let me know.

Thanks to all of you who are doing shopping via the links here, it’s really cool. I appreciate your support of this site. Keep it up!

I recently updated the “about Laurel” page, as well as my wishlist. If you’re interested in exchanging holiday cards, drop me a line with your snail mail address (also let me know if you’re interested in a holiday mix CD or any of my mix CDs).

Daytime:

Nothing but episodes of The X-Files from 7am ’til Noon on Sci-Fi. Sadly, they aren’t particularly good episodes.

Joseph Lawrence, Carson Daly, Jamie Gertz on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Is This Normal?” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

Mariah Carey on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Behind The Music: Cyndi Lauper (VH1, 11am).

The classic “Daydream” episode of NewsRadio (A&E, 1pm) is followed by the episode where James Caan guest stars (as himself) (A&E, 1:30pm).

Rerun of the Noon-1pm episode of 24 (FX, 4pm).

Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, Jami Gertz, designers Doug Wilson and Genevieve Gordon (of Trading Spaces) on a rerun of yesterday’s episode of The View (A&E, 5pm).

“After Life” and “Flooded” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm, 6pm). From last season.

There’s a wedding, and Jane Kaczmarek returns as Julie’s Mom in “The Biggest Deal There Is” episode of Felicity (We, 6pm, 11pm).

Rerun of part 1 (of 10) of Taken (Sci-Fi, 6pm-8pm) in case you missed it last night and want to watch this saga.

Primetime:

It’s that time of the year, time for reruns, reruns, and more reruns. With only a few exceptions. A good time to check in on those shows you aren’t watching regularly since your regular faves are in reruns. Or else take a break from ye olde TV and catch some movies (or catch up on all the TV you have on tape, DVD, or Tivo).

“Eric turns into a turkey when his math teacher dines with the Formans on Thanksgiving” on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm).

Rerun of the “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Day” episode of Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm). Was the first episode of this season. Wherein Rory and Paris are in Washington D.C. together, before they return home. Cool stuff as Paris goes on a date. Lorelai has a dream that involves her being married to Luke. And there’s another town-wide celebration, of course (not ‘cuz of her dream, though I can imagine that!).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm) gets a job as a guidance counselor at her old high school. And then she tracks a monster underground in the “Beneath You” episode of Buffy. No new episodes of Buffy (or Angel) ’til January.

Rerun of the first episode of this season of JAG (CBS, 7pm). Which found Bud seriously injured after stepping on a landmine. I like Bud, so this worried me.

Reruns of the pilot episodes of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter (ABC, 7pm), According to Jim (ABC, 7:30pm), Life With Bonnie (ABC, 8pm), and Less Than Perfect (ABC, 8:30pm). All of them will leave you scratching your head and wondering why these series were picked up. I know that Life with Bonnie has improved since the first episodes (though it’s still not as good as I’d hoped it would be, nor as good as Bonnie Hunt’s previous sitcom).

What Will Jack Bauer Do from 1pm ’til 2pm? Tune in to a new episode of 24 (FOX, 8pm) to find out.

Part 2 (of 10) of Taken (Sci-Fi, 8pm, 10pm, midnight). It’s a science fiction miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg. Eric Close, Julie Benz, Michael Moriarty, and Matt Frewer are among those who appear in it. Part 1 airs from 6-8pm in case you missed it last night and want to give this saga a shot.

“A teacher uses the power of pheromones to convince Lex to marry her” on a rerun of Smallville (WB, 8pm). I’ve been assured that this show has improved significantly since early last season when I gave up on it because I was weary of the Monster of the Week formula. Now, I’m told, it’s more about the characters and some sort of story arc. Sounds like a good thing to me. Perhaps I’ll check back in with the show while everything is in reruns this month.

Reruns of The Guardian (CBS, 8pm) and Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm). I’ve heard from fans of both these shows who say they “aren’t great” but “are enjoyable” for what it’s worth. I used to watch Amy sometimes and definitely liked some of the supporting characters (another case of a show where I find the title character the least interesting of the lot).

“A deranged woman has an incestuous relationship with her son” on a rerun of NYPD Blue (ABC, 9pm).

One can always watch reruns of The Larry Sanders Show (Bravo, 9pm & midnight, 9:30pm & 12:30am). Always good for a laugh.

Late Night:

Katrina Vanden Heuvel (Editor of The Nation) on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Michele Pfeiffer, Bon Jovi on a rerun of The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Howie Mandel, Juliana Margulies, Bon Jovi on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Julianne Moore on The Caroline Rhea Show (ABC Family, 11pm).

Marisa Tomei, Jim Breuer, Sparta on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Susan Sarandon, Tony Hawk, Cam’ron on a rerun of The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Piper Perabo, Maroon 5 on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Tomorrow:

Would any of you be interested in seeing listings for Today, Good Morning America, and The Early Show here? Let me know if you’d like that. It’s a bit of extra work, but should be do-able if there’s interest.

Diane Sawyer, Josh Groban, Andy Richter, Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Jerry Lewis, Jay Thomas on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Kathy Griffin, Laura Pausini, Zach Braff on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Self Matters, Part 2″ on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

The Crocodile Hunter on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).
