One critic admits that Gilmore Girls is his favorite show. Mine, too.
And this is a cool review of the Sports Night DVD set. Which you can order here (among other places).
FOX announces plans to release the first seasons of Angel and NYPD Blue on DVD. I’ll post links here when they’re available for pre-orders.
The Emmy awards might move to . . . HBO?!? Eek. I mean, no offense to HBO, but some people (like yours truly) can’t get it (I live in an apartment building where we don’t have HBO as an option with our cable package). And while I gripe about the Emmy awards, I can’t imagine Not Watching The Show.
That “subscribe” link in the sidebar isn’t for joining the email lists (you can do that on a different page), but for if you’d like to sign up to donate $5 per month to this site via a credit card or other method at Paypal. Eventually I’ll probably build a new separate “Donations” page where you can make one-time donations or sign up for monthly donations (including at rates other than $5/month).
Two great episodes of two of the best shows on television air opposite each other tonight. Ugh! If you can manage to watch both Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm) tonight, you’re in for a treat. Even if you manage to only see one of the two, you’re still doing pretty darn well.
Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote tonight’s episode of Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) which is titled “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?” which is set primarily at an old-fashioned dance marathon in Stars Hollow (the episode title is a reference to the film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?). The show creator just happens to be the best writer on the show and it’s good that she’s writing this key episode . . . because it sounds like Rory may finally decide between Dean and Jess. How can you not love an episode that will showcase the many fine (and funny) denizens of Stars Hollow? Plus there’ll be retro clothes. And Kenny Ortega (choreographer for Dirty Dancing, among other things) directs this episode; he probably choreographed it, too. So there should be some big cool dance sequences. Whee! Of course I expect some angst, even in the midst of all this.
Probably nowhere near the kind of angst we’ll find on tonight’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm). Episode title is “Conversations With Dead People,” and it’s written by Jane Espenson & Drew Goddard and directed by Nick Marck. If you’re a Buffy fan, you won’t want to miss this one as some major stuff happens and yes, some characters from previous episodes make return visits. Drew Goddard’s a new staff writer at Buffy, his first episode was that cool Anya episode– he rules (I’m not just saying that ‘cuz I’m one of his minions. Nope). Seems like it’s time (November sweeps, y’all) for this season’s arc to get underway in a major way. Early reviews are very very positive about this episode, I can’t wait to see it.
“Get More Time and Money in Your Life” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Incredible Survival Stories” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).
Miss the second episode of this season of 24 last week? It airs again today on FX at 4pm so you can see it before tonight’s new episode.
Pilot episode of The Nanny (Lifetime, 5pm).
“The Yoko Factor” and “Primeval” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm, 6pm).
Basketball: Harlem Globetrotters vs. Maryland (ESPN2, 6pm).
Not-to-be-missed episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm) and Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm). For more details, check out the Featured Pick(s) section.
Donna gives Eric a ring on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm).
“Harm defends a general who failed to follow protocol during a war-game exercise” on JAG (CBS, 7pm). Tamlyn Tomita, Isabella Hofmann, Richard Biggs guest star.
Jonathan Winters guest stars on Life with Bonnie (ABC, 8pm; 8pm on Saturday on ABC Family Channel). I think he’s playing a writer with multiple personalities (go figure, eh?).
Hour 3 of Day 2 of 24 (FOX, 8pm). Which begs the question: what if the family that hired Kim as a nanny had hired Scott Baio’s Charles (of Charles in Charge (Nick, 8pm-10pm) instead. Now that I’d watch. Please picture Scott Baio in the role of Kim as you watch this episode, I guarantee it’ll add to your viewing enjoyment).
Clark helps a telepathic friend on Smallville (WB, 8pm; rerun on Sunday at 4pm on the WB).
Frasier (NBC, 8pm) interviews housekeepers. Ana Gasteyer guest stars. Part 1 (of 3).
Bruce Campbell guest stars on The X-Files (Sci-Fi, 8pm).
Your pal and mine, Al Roker, discusses his dramatic 100lb weight loss and how he managed it, in detail on Dateline NBC (NBC, 9pm). Yes, this Dateline may include footage from a surgical procedure. You can also read the People magazine cover story online. And Al’s written a little bit on the topic in recent journal entries on his website.
” An attorney files obstruction-of-justice charges against a victim of child pornography” on Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm).
“Dead women are found hog-tied in vacant lot” on NYPD Blue (ABC, 9pm).
“Detour” is one of my favorite episodes of The X-Files (Sci-Fi, 9pm). Silly monster stuff isn’t that interesting, but the Mulder-Scully banter is primo. If only sleeping bags had fallen from the sky.
Alexandria Pelosi on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Emmit Smith, Kelly Ripa, Missy Elliot on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Cedric the Entertainer, Bonnie Raitt on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Ed star Tom Cavanagh sings “Sweet Caroline”, plus Mekhi Phifer (of ER) on The Caroline Rhea Show (ABC Family, 11pm).
Robin Williams, the Other Ones on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Jill Hennessy, Kelly Rowland on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Whoopi Goldberg on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
