Best Bets:

Everwood (WB, 8pm; Sunday at 5pm)
Crossing Jordan (NBC, 9pm)
C.S.I. (TNN, 10:05pm)
Robin Williams on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)

News:

You can now pre-order My So-Called Life on DVD from amazon.com. Release date is November 19th. Box set contains all 19 episodes, some have commentary tracks, there are some other extras as well. Great series, well worth owning on DVD.

The first season of Highlander comes out on DVD on November 12th.

You can also pre-order the second season of Oz which will be released on January 7th.

DVD sets of Sports Night and of the first seasons of Felicity, Once and Again, Law & Order, Farscape, The Mary Tyler Moore Show,
Malcolm in the Middle, 24, Babylon 5, and other cool shows are now in stores. Plus HBO’s acclaimed miniseries Band of Brothers.

I’ve added links in the sidebar to series you can buy on DVD from amazon.co.uk which aren’t yet available in the U.S. These are Region 2 DVDs, often in PAL format, you’ll need a multiregion DVD player to view them. Most of the series available there should become available in the U.S. sometime, but it may take a while.

Remember that if you buy anything via my amazon links here, you’re helping to support this site.

Daytime:

David James Elliott, Harry Connick Jr., O-Town on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Dr. Phil McGraw, Treat Williams, comic Craig Shoemaker on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Simon Baker (of The Guardian), Dominic Chianese, Erin Collins (from Survivor) on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Sci-Fi channel has a Star Trek marathon (Sci-Fi, 10am-6pm).

Sometimes I forget that Mad About You (Lifetime, 10am, 10:30am) was a darn good show for a while there. The pilot episode airs this morning on Lifetime, the first season of the series is now available on DVD.

I guess Lifetime is really pleased to have the rights to The Nanny as they’re running a marathon of episodes today (Lifetime, Noon-6pm). Followed by an Intimate Portrait (Lifetime, 6pm) of Fran Drescher.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial 20th Anniversary Ceremony (C-SPAN, Noon).

NewsRadio (A&E, 1pm, 1:30pm) is my favorite sitcom of the last decade or so. Can’t be beat. The reruns on A&E are back to early first season episodes, classics like today’s “Inappropriate” and “Smoking.” Someone should release this series on DVD, I’d surely snap it up. Until then, I hope it continues to air over and over on cable and in syndication.

“More Controlling People” on Dr. Phil (syndicated, check your local listings).

“Unlikely Friends” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Fluffy musical fun as only Xena, Warrior Princess (Oxygen, 5pm and ) could do in the “Lyre, Lyre, Hearts on Fire ” episode. I own the soundtrack album.

“Where The Wild Things Are” and “New Moon Rising” episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm, 6pm).

Primetime:

“Eric and Rabbi Glass spy on the new associate pastor” on 7th Heaven (WB, 7pm). Yes, Richard Lewis is back again.

What on earth has happened to Boston Public (FOX, 7pm)? Last season, it struggled a bit at first (I couldn’t stand any Hook Lady shenanigans), but then became pretty darn entertaining (albeit farfetched at times, of course). As this season opens, we find some characters mysteriously missing (what? no mention of what became of Lauren Davis?), we meet a couple of boring interchangeable new young teachers, and we’re dumped into a depressiong failing relationship between Harry and Ronnie. Ugh. And then there was that riot in the first episode which seemed to hardly have any effect on anything . . . last season it would’ve been a Big Deal with repercussions, I think. Oh that’s right, this is a David E. Kelley series, it’s expected that it’d tank after a season or two. I’ll continue to watch for at least a few more episodes, but things had better shape up pretty quick as right now the show is No Fun At All. Used to be something of a guilty pleasure, now it’s just . . . blah.

If you missed the “Mr. Monk and the Red Headed Stranger” episode of Monk (ABC, 7pm; or after Monday Night Football in some markets) when it aired originally on USA, you’re in for a treat now. Willie Nelson, of course, guest stars.

I’m hooked on Everwood (WB, 8pm; rerun on Sunday at 5pm). If you’re like a lot of people, you’re wondering “what’s Everwood?” and also possibly “why Everwood?”. A friend of mine maintains that he can’t figure out what the show is about from the commercials. So here’s the nutshell version (or at least the best I can do): Treat Williams plays a brilliant neurosurgeon who moves his teenage son and young daughter from their home in New York City to the tiny town of Everwood, Colorado after his wife (their mother) dies. Why Everwood? It’s a rather sweet tale (you should watch the pilot when it’s rerun). He opens a free clinic in Everwood and hires a nurse who happens to be the mother of the other doctor in town (one who actually asks patients to pay him). There’s an amusing, prickly rivalry between the two doctors. The kids don’t much like the new living arrangements at first. The son befriends the daughter of the other doctor and develops a crush on her, and she’s got a boyfriend who’s been in a coma for months and then there are the neighbors and . . um, yeah. It’s a low-key town with some quirky characters, slightly reminiscient of Northern Exposure, I suppose. There’s tension among family members and community members, but also a whole lot of warmth, too. I think I’m gravitating towards warm shows right now or maybe they just balance out all the Law & Orders and C.S.I. of the world.

Ray finds the son of a couple of his friends very annoying on Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm).

Expect lots of clips and all sorts of references to the “old days” on the 500th Episode of Monday Night Football (ABC, 8pm). Oh yeah, the game is Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos.

In case you somehow hadn’t heard, girls club was cancelled after only two episodes aired. What is FOX airing in that timeslot tonight? TV’s Funniest Game Show Moments 2 (FOX, 8pm).

“The coroner’s staff leads the recovery effort when an explosion levels an office building” on a new Crossing Jordan (NBC, 9pm). It returns after two weeks off. I really do like it better than C.S.I. Miami (CBS, 9pm) and think that the show’s been darn good thus far this season.

Rerun of the classic “Unfriendly Skies” first season episode of C.S.I. (TNN, 10:05pm).

Late Night:

Rerun of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Robin Williams, Emily Procter on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Halle Berry, Tim Russert, Kelly Rowland on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Wesley Snipes, Steve Coogan, Oasis on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Peter Boyle, Trust Company on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

James Taylor on a rerun of Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Tomorrow Morning:

Donny Osmond, Kelsey Grammer on Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Joan Collins, TLC on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

David James Elliott, Lainie Kazan, Donny Osmond on The Caroline Rhea Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
