News:

2002 Fall TV Schedule Grid (with premiere dates and information about new shows).

Farscape has been cancelled.

Best Bets:

Soap Marathon (TV Land, 7pm-5:30am).
New episode of Monk (USA, 9pm and possibly 11pm).
Megan Mullally, Rich Hall on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Susan Sarandon, Jason Lee, Superdrag on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Daytime:

“People Who Sing” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings). Ten stars perform hit songs.

Meerkats: A Kalahari Saga (Discovery Channel, 5pm).

Baseball: Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins (TBS, 6pm).

Baseball: Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds (WGN, 6pm).

The Real World: Back in New York marathon (MTV, 6pm- ).

Primetime:

TV Land celebrates the 25th anniversary of Soap with a 10 and a half hour Soap Marathon (TV Land, 7pm-5:30am).

Another airing of the hour-long series premiere of Family Affair (WB, 7pm-8pm). Gary Cole is Uncle Bill. Tim Curry is Mr. French. I watched part of it last night and it didn’t exactly grab me, but it wasn’t tremendously horrible either as these things go. Mostly it made me sad for Gary Cole and Tim Curry whose talents would be better served elsewhere (IMHO).

Gerald McRaney and Joan Van Ark star in the new made-for-cable movie Tornado Warning (PAX, 7pm). “A renowned scientist and his former prot?g? alert small-town residents about an impending tornado.”

Cyndi Lauper on Behind The Music (VH1, 7pm).

Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals at Houston Astros (ESPN, 7pm).

“A dog-show diva brings her pooch to the Hansen clinic for emergency grooming” on a rerun of Providence (NBC, 7pm).

Peter Jennings on Larry King Live (CNN, 8pm).

Rerun of I Love Lucy’s 50th Anniversary Special (CBS, 8pm-10pm).

At long last, a new episode of Monk (USA, 9pm and possibly 11pm). Monk investigates the murder of a woman during a marathon in “Mr. Monk and the Marathon Man.” Tony Shalhoub, Bitty Schram, and Ted Levine star in this fine series from Andy Breakman. Obsessive Compulsive Detective.

“Detectives investigate the murder of an animal-rights activist” on Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm).

Rerun of Alias (ABC Family, 9pm).

Late Night:

Megan Mullally, Rich Hall on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Heath Ledger, Cedric the Entertainer, Lee Ann Womack on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Susan Sarandon, Jason Lee, Superdrag on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Rather than airing an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street as usual, Court TV is airing the reunion movie Homicide: The Movie (Court TV, midnight-2am). Be warned: if you haven’t seen every episode of Homicide, you probably don’t want to watch the reunion movie just yet. Might ruin some things for you. The movie is available on VHS and DVD so it’s easy to find.

Ice Cube, Jessica Simpson, Morrissey on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Amanda Peet, Michael Vartan (of Alias), David Lee Roth on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings). Friday edition is one hour in length.

Tomorrow

Weekend picks will be online later tonight.

Enjoy these picks? Tell me why (or just say “hi”) and/or make a donation (if you haven’t done such things already or in a while). I’m not paid to put together these picks, right now I’m unemployed, so every little bit of money (or encouragement) helps. Thanks!
