One year ago today, I was laid off from my job as a systems administrator for a graphic prepress company. Sadly, I haven’t found any work since then. I just wanted to say a Big Thank You to everybody who has emailed me job leads or simply encouraging words. Thanks to everyone who has made donations or sent gifts. Thanks for linking to this site. It’s been a tough year, but you’ve helped me get through it. Here’s hoping I can find some sort of gainful employment soon, eh?
I forget if I mentioned the DVD releases of some other cool TV series.
The first season of 24 is due out on September 17th. Or you could just watch/record the Labor Day marathon of the series that is set to air on Labor Day. (I thought the series was good, but not great, so I don’t really need to watch it again or own it on DVD. But, obviously, your mileage may vary).
I’m more excited about the release of Babylon 5 – The Complete First Season. It’s about time.
Golf: PGA Championship, First Round (TNT, 1pm-6pm or so). From Hazeltine in Chaska, Minnesota (the town where I learned to drive, just FYI).
Baseball: Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs (WGN, 1pm).
Ray Romano, Natalie Imbruglia, author E.R. Frank on The Rosie O’Donnell Show (syndicated, check your local listings).
“Caroline Myss on Discovering Why You Are Here” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).
Tom Cruise, Bobby Flay on The View (A&E, 5pm).
Classic Star Trek: “A Piece of the Action” (Sci-Fi, 5pm) and “Mirror, Mirror” (Sci-Fi, 6pm).
Baseball: San Francisco Giants at Atlanta Braves (TBS, 6:30pm).
Carrie Fisher is profiled on Biography (A&E, 7pm and 11pm).
“J.D. asks for Turk’s support in advising a patient” on Scrubs (NBC, 7:30pm). Finally, a good show airs following Friends (NBC, 7pm). Must be a warning sign of the apocalypse. (Though, honestly, I liked the midseason series Leap of Faith and thought it worked in that timeslot).
Happy Birthday Julia! Julia Child turns 90 today. To celebrate, many PBS stations are airing Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom (PBS, check your local listings). Julia is also a guest on Larry King Live (CNN, 8pm and 11pm).
“The CSI team investigates the murders of four Buddist monks” on C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm).
Spoofs (or replays) of episodes of Saved By The Bell and The Jeffersons on The Rerun Show (NBC, 8:30pm). So I’ve only seen one of their segments, the What’s Happening one, and I liked it (but then maybe it was just ‘cuz Alfonso Ribeiro was in it). Expect an appearance by That Guy Who Played ‘Screech’ in tonight’s installment.
“Johnny stops a bank robbery from going awry” on The Dead Zone (USA, 9pm).
The Law & Order: Criminal Intent-athon continues tonight with another fine episode of this cool series (NBC, 9pm). This one is titled “Phantom” and in it “the murder of an ex- convict triggers an investigation of his sister and her beau.”
“Osama bin Laden Has Farty Pants” episode of South Park (Comedy Central, 9pm).
Rich Eisen on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Tom Hanks, Dolly Parton on a rerun of The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Matthew Perry, Michelle Rodriguez, Audiovent on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Steve Coogan, Wesley Snipes, Oasis on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Academy award winner Marcia Gay Harden puts in a heartwrenching guest appearance in the “A Doll’s Eyes” episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight). This is one of the episodes that’s available on home video.
Ted Danson, Lauren Ambrose, International Noise Conspiracy on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
Kenny Mayne, Bow Wow on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
Enjoy these picks? Tell me why (or just say “hi”) and/or make a donation (if you haven’t done such things already or in a while). I’m not paid to put together these picks, right now I’m unemployed altogether, so every little bit of money (or encouragement) helps. Thanks!
