Best Bets | Daytime | Primetime | Late Night

Best Bets:

Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 5pm)
The Shield (FX, 9pm)
Monk (USA, 11pm)
Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight)

Daytime:

Matt Damon, Adam Beach, Robin Tunney on a rerun of The Rosie O’Donnell Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Michael J. Fox on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

“The Summoning” episode of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 4pm). Wherein Garibaldi is found.

Batman Beyond (Cartoon Network, 4pm), Powerpuff Girls (Cartoon Network, 4:30pm), Dragon Ball (Cartoon Network, 5pm), Dragon Ball Z (Cartoon Network, 5:30pm).

Trek classic: “The City on the Edge of Forever” episode of Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 5pm). Written by Harlan Ellison (or at least, the original screenplay was).

Harrison Ford on The View (A&E, 5pm).

Primetime:

Part 1 (of 2) of the pilot episode of Sliders (Sci-Fi, 6pm).

Baseball: Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins (TBS, 6pm).

“The director of “The Sixth Sense” explores fear” in M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs of Fear (ABC, 7pm). Presumably a big promo for the new Shyamalan film Signs. But I won’t complain ‘cuz I loved Unbreakable.

Four episodes of Grounded For Life (FOX, 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:30pm). In case you wanted to check out this rather pedestrian (IMHO) sitcom.

Game show/reality show-palooza tonight on NBC: Fear Factor (NBC, 7pm); Dog Eat Dog (NBC, 8pm), and Meet My Folks (NBC, 9pm). In the latter, “Eligible men try to win the approval of the family of each potential ‘Miss Right.’ “

TVography: Jackie Gleason: The Great One (A&E, 7pm-9pm, 11pm-1am).

Debra and Marie set up Robert’s girlfriend (or ex, mayhaps) to try and make Robert jealous on Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm).

New Witchblade (TNT, 8pm and 10pm).

Clark’s football coach can start fires supernaturally on Smallville (WB, 8pm).

Live From the Red Carpet: Goldmember (E!, 9pm).

Another excellent episode of The Shield (FX, 9pm). And how cool is it that the show was nominated for Emmys for direction, writing, and acting? Since it was arguably the best drama of last season.

Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants (ESPN, 9pm).

Late Night:

Regis Philbin on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).

Haley Joel Osment, author Bill Scheft, Dashboard Confessional on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Michael Caine, Tina Fey on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

If you aren’t watching Monk (USA, 11pm), you’re missing a fun quirky detective series. Tony Shalhoub stars in this series created by Andy Breckman. (Andy Breckman is most famous in my circle of friends for writing the song “Railroad Bill,” but he’s written for Saturday Night Live and has penned some quirky movies like I.Q.).

“There is a world out there that very few of us ever see. Go to the worst places on earth and you meet them. The aid workers, the journalists, the people with questionable government ties. And tonight you’ll meet someone who knows them all. They call her “All- Weather Heather,” because she’ll fly anything anywhere, at any time.” on Nightline (ABC, check your local listings).

Ethan Hawke, Dave Chappelle, Anthony Bourdain on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Ted Koppel hosts Up Close (ABC, check your local listings). Tonight he interviews people about Tiger Woods.

“A Model Citizen” episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight).

Oakland A Barry Zito, Chris Isaak on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Sheryl Crow on a rerun of Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).

Enjoy these picks? Tell me why (or just say “hi”) and/or consider making a donation (if you haven’t done such things already or in a while). Thanks!
