Best Bets | Daytime | Primetime | Late Night

Best Bets:

Harold Lloyd films on TCM (starting at 7pm)
“Stitch In Time” episode of The Outer Limits (Sci-Fi, 7pm)
New episode of The Shield (FX, 9pm, 10pm)
Reruns of cool shows: Buffy (UPN, 7pm), Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm), Smallville (WB, 8pm), Andy Richter Controls The Universe (FOX, 7:30pm, 8:30pm), et al.

Daytime:

The TV Land schedule changed not too long ago, it’s worth a visit to their website to get full details on the current schedule.

Ben Affleck, Patrick Stewart on Live With Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings).

Maura Tierney on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

You really can’t beat Preston Sturges’ classic comedies: The Lady Eve (TCM, 11:45am) and Sullivan’s Travels (TCM, 1:30pm).

“Atomic Shakespeare” is the classic episode of Moonlighting (Bravo, 1pm) that’s their take on The Taming of the Shrew.

The cop series The Rookies (TV Land, 1pm) just started airing on TV Land. 2nd episode airs today.

Peter Jurasik guest stars on Scarecrow & Mrs. King (PAX, 3pm).

Lauren Holly, Shiri Appleby (of Roswell), Alex Kingston (of ER) on The Rosie O’Donnell Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

Dr. Phil on “Uncovering Your Authentic Self” on a rerun of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Tara’s family visits Sunnydale in the “Family” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm). I know plenty of people thought this episode awfully contrived or too sappy, but I really liked it.

Primetime:

Cool! Harold Lloyd films on TCM: Safety Last (TCM, 7pm). You’ve seen clips from this film many times– it’s the one where Lloyd ends up hanging from the big clock. And more classics: Girl Shy (TCM, 8:30pm); Hot Water (TCM, 10pm); The Kid Brother (TCM, 11:30pm); Speedy (TCM, 1am)

So if you were watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm) and not Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) during this past season, now’s your chance to catch up with Gilmore Girls. And if you were watching Gilmore Girls, now’s your chance to catch up with Buffy. It’s a pity two of the best shows on the air are on opposite each other. I managed to watch both this season and they both were really good (uneven at times, but overall still among the best shows on TV). The Buffy episode is part 1 of “Bargaining,” the first episode of this season. The Gilmore Girls episode is a rerun of the one where Rory finds herself in a popular clique.

Michelle Forbes and Amanda Plummer star in a very cool episode of the new Outer Limits (Sci-Fi, 7pm) written by Steven Barnes. Forbes plays an FBI agent who discovers a series of murders where the same gun was used, over the course of a long span of time. Sounds like an X-File to me. Forbes is good as the agent, makes Homicide fans wish she was cast as a detective on that show rather than as a medical examiner.

Yankees at White Sox (WGN, 7pm).

It’s easy for many people to roll their eyes at the original series which air on PAX, but I contend that the folks doing the eye-rolling haven’t actually, you know, watched the shows. Because Mysterious Ways (PAX, 7pm) is actually often pretty good.

Carol Burnett is profiled on Biography (A&E, 7pm and 11pm).

Eric disapproves of a story Donna writes for the school paper on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm).

A co-worker’s death has unwanted consequences on Andy Richter Controls The Universe (FOX, 7:30pm).

A rogue cop finds out Clark’s secret and blackmails him on Smallville (WB, 8pm).

Bernie takes the children to church on The Bernie Mac Show (FOX, 8pm).

Andy must share his office with another executive on Andy Richter Controls The Universe (FOX, 8:30pm). Bernie Mac and Andy Richter Controls The Universe were two of the funniest shows to air this past season. Worth catching them now if you missed the episodes previously.

New episode of Philly (ABC, 9pm). Yup, it’s final episode finally airs. Show has been cancelled.

New episode of The Shield (FX, 9pm, 10pm).

Bruce Campbell guest stars on the season finale of Charmed (TNT, 9pm). Already aired on the WB, but just in case you missed it and are interested.

Late Night:

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart isn’t on at all this week.

Hugh Grant, Tony Hawk on a rerun of The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Tobey McGuire, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Usher on a rerun of The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Luke Perry, Mike Epps, James Lipton on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Tim Robbins, Jamie Lee Curtis on a rerun of The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Peter Jennings, Ben Affleck on Charlie Rose (PBS, check your local listings). Subject to change.

“Living Doll” episode of The Twilight Zone (Sci-Fi, midnight).

Michael McKean, Alec Baldwin, Christianne Klein, Frank Bruni on a rerun of Politically Incorrect (ABC, check your local listings).

Bridget Moynahan, Pete Yorn on a new Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
