News:

2002-2003 TV Schedule Grid.

Featured Pick:

I want to believe.

It’s crazy, given how disenchanted I’ve become with The X-Files over the last few years, but I still very much want to believe. I want to believe tonight’s series finale will be good, will answer some questions or at least tie some things together. I want it to be satisfying, I want to say a fond farewell to characters I love and a show that’s occasionally been downright breathtaking.

Mulder will be back. This alone makes the show worth watching, really. To see Mulder and Scully together one more time. It’s time to say farewell to them, to Skinner, to the rest of the gang. It’s been time for a while, really. But even as the show made less and less sense, got worse and worse, I kept hoping for those occasional good (or even great) episodes or scenes. It’s hard to let go when there’s always hope that they’ll get something right.

I want this finale to be right and good.

It’s hard to see how it’s possible, but maybe they can wrap things up in a way that doesn’t disappoint.

I want to believe.

I want to believe enough that even while everyone is talking about difficult choices about what to watch tonight, it’s a no-brainer for me. I’ll be watching and taping The X-Files (FOX, 7pm-9pm) and if they do it right, I’ll be sniffling a little bit as it ends, too.

If you watch it and want to talk about it, go ahead and email me. I’m sure I’ll have some things to say and I’d like to hear what you think.

Best Bets:

Series finale of The X-Files (FOX, 7pm-9pm)
The Cosby Show: A Look Back (NBC, 8pm-10pm)
Survivor (CBS, 7pm-10pm) (if you’re following it this season)
Season finale of The Practice (ABC, 8pm-10pm)

Daytime:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (AMC, Noon).

Invader ZIM (Nick, Noon, 12:30pm).

Casablanca (TCM, 1pm).

Cubs at Brewers (WGN, 1pm).

“Murder is Corny” episode of Nero Wolfe (A&E, 1pm). From last week.

Coffee Unwrapped (Food Network, 1:30pm).

Catman and Sandman episodes of Batman (TV Land, 2pm-4pm).

Classic M*A*S*H (FX, 2:30pm): “Tuttle.” Followed by two other cool episodes.

In “Dead End,” the detectives search for the man they think shot Bolander, Howard, and Felton. Gloria Reuben guest stars on Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 3pm).

Annie Hall (TCM, 5pm).

“Crepe Expectations Live” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm).

Primetime:

New episode (second-to-last for the season, I believe) of The Simpsons (FOX, 6:30pm).

Series finale of The X-Files (FOX, 7pm-9pm). It’s a two-hour episode titled “The Truth.” I want to believe it’ll be good. David Duchovny returns as Fox Mulder. Lots of other people return for this finale and they claim many answers will finally be provided.

Final episode of Survivor for this season: Survivor: Marquesas: The Sole Survivor (CBS, 7pm-9pm) followed by Survivor: Marquesas — The Reunion (CBS, 9pm-10pm) hosted by Rosie O’Donnell.

Part 2 (of 2) of the “Mother Hunt” episode of Nero Wolfe (A&E, 7pm and 11pm).

Junkyard Wars (TLC, 7pm-1am).

The Cosby Show: A Look Back (NBC, 8pm-10pm). Some people who’ve seen it claim it’s the best of the reunion specials, I just hope it’s good.

Season finale of The Practice (ABC, 8pm-10pm). It’s actually the last two episodes, one airing at 8pm, one at 9pm. Two different endings (verdicts, actually) have been filmed for this: but which will be used? Tune in and see. (Hey, why not use a different ending for the east coast and west coasts and then they could film two versions of the series all next season or at least for the first several episodes . . . Oh alright, maybe not. I think it’d be cool).

New Six Feet Under (HBO, 8pm; airs a few more times this week too).

The Homes of Frank Lloyd Wright (HGTV, 8pm and 11pm).

Tom Jones: For One Night Only (Bravo, 9pm and midnight).

Don’t forget about Adult Swim:

The Producers (TCM, 9pm).

Late Night:

“Incompetence” is the episode of Law & Order: SVU (USA, 10pm) featuring a pregnant woman who has Down Syndrome.

Rerun of last week’s 24 (FX, 10pm).
