Best Bets | Daytime | Primetime | Late Night

Best Bets:

Winter Olympics (NBC)
The Chronicle (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 11pm)
The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)

Daytime:

Maura Tierney, Dylan McDermott on The View (ABC, check your local listings).

Holy cow. Usually if I’m talking about far out soap plots, I’m cranky about it. But when As The World Turns (CBS, check your local listings) had to deal with the real-life pregnancies of two prominent actresses, they launched quite the saga. Four people kidnapped at the moment, and another one is now being held prisoner by someone I never thought I’d see on the show again. It’s rare that a show can surprise me and World is managing it. And have I mentioned the great cast? And how cool it is to see characters of all ages involved in major storylines? Yeah.

Jamie Foxx, Rufus Wainright, Caroline Rhea at the Olympics on The Rosie O’Donnell Show (syndicated, check your local listings).

“How safe are your investments?” on Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings).

Kidnappers inject Claire on The Invisible Man (Sci-Fi, 4pm).

Buffy and Riley have a lot of sex in the “Where The Wild Things Are” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm). Update: FX is airing a second episode of Buffy after all at 6pm. It’s the one where Oz returns for a visit. Sorry about any confusion. It’ll air again on Monday at 7am if you miss it tonight.

Primetime:

Coverage of the Winter Olympics continues (NBC, CNBC, MSNBC). I think my favorite event of the Winter Olympics is tonight– the figure skating “Champions Gala,” where the medalists get to skate just for fun. If all goes according to schedule, NBC will have this from 8:15pm-10:30pm or so, more or less.

Barbara Eden guest stars on Sabrina the Teenage Witch (WB, 7pm).

A high school cheerleader is really a bionic girl in the “Stepford Cheerleaders” episode of The Chronicle (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 11pm). I’m gonna miss this show when it’s gone.

The third and final installment of Inside TV Land: African Americans on Television (TV Land, 8pm) focuses on comedy series. It’s well worth your time (and yeah, it’ll air a few more times on other days/nights, too).

Naomi Judd guest stars on Maybe It’s Me (WB, 8:30pm).

Bamboo shoots on Iron Chef (Food Network, 9pm and midnight).

Late Night:

Richard Dreyfuss, Jeff Foxworthy on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm). Dave and company have been brilliant during the Olympics, there’s really no reason to watch any other late night talk show.

Josh Hartnett, the Goo Goo Dolls on The Olympic Tonight Show (NBC, 11:05pm).

Thomas Gibson, Vanessa Williams on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

Ann Coulter, Chevy Chase, Michael Rappaport, Naomi Judd on Politically Incorrect (ABC, check your local listings).

Bruno Kirby directed a strange episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight) that had something to do with Edgar Allan Poe called “Heartbeat.”

Your donations and emails keep this site afloat and help keep me going.

Picks for Saturday will be online sometime tonight, with any luck.
