tuesday
Brad Dourif guest stars as a nasty nasty guy in another great standalone episode of The X-Files (FX, 4pm and midnight) called “Beyond The Sea.” Remember when this show was good? Capable of being suspenseful without being gross? And the characters were consistent? Ah, yes.
Spike (James Marsters) and Drusilla (Juliet Landau) hatch an evil plan (of course) in parts 1 and 2 of the “What’s My Line?” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (FX, 5pm and 6pm).
Science fiction writer and all around cool guy Bill Shunn marries the very cool Laura Chavoen on an episode of Two for Las Vegas (Travel Channel, 6pm, 1am). I get to watch people I know on TV! Excellent.
If you’re a newcomer to Buffy who was left hanging during the last run on FX wondering “now that Glory has Dawn, what happens?!?,” you’ll want to tune in to UPN tonight as they air the last two episodes of last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm, 8pm). The first hour is slowgoing, the last hour is essential Buffy viewing (but really only if you’ve seen the season leading up to it or are watching this season of the show; otherwise you can probably wait ’til FX airs it).
Harm defends a Navy SEAL who disobeyed order to help a comrade on JAG (CBS, 7pm).
Rerun of “The Road Trip To Harvard” episode of Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm).
So I like Hank Azaria and Jayne Brook and Joshua Malina, but I wish Imagine That (NBC, 7pm) were a better show. Maybe this episode will be.
Miranda develops a different personality and new talents after surviving an electric shock on Mysterious Ways (PAX, 7pm).
Series premiere of The Chair (ABC, 7pm). Did you see the premiere of The Chamber on Sunday? This is another evil show like that, this one is hosted by John McEnroe. Contestants are basically tortured while being quizzed. Yeah, I guess it’s a game show. And yes, I’m revolted. Kindof appalling they’re putting this stuff on the air while good shows like Once and Again and Undeclared are in danger of being yanked from the airwaves.
Steven takes a job in the school cafeteria on Undeclared (FOX, 7:30pm).
Series premiere of First Monday (CBS, 8pm). It’s from the creator of JAG and stars James Garner, Joe Mantegna, and Charles Durning. Is about Supreme Court justices. There’s a big supporting cast, there’s also a show within a show where real-life attorneys and other people in the news may make appearances to argue over issues.
A corrupt cop coerces Clark into working with him on a new Smallville (WB, 8pm).
The 7am-8am episode of 24 (FOX, 8pm; will also air on FOX this Friday night and a time or two on FX).
A mentally unbalanced woman poses as a police officer on NYPD Blue (ABC, 8pm).
Shari Belafonte guest stars in Babylon 5: Thirdspace (Sci-Fi, 8pm-10pm).
New episodes of Frasier (NBC, 8pm) and Scrubs (NBC, 8:30pm).
Kyle gets thrown out of the house, or something, on Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm). I miss Vincent. Just saying.
Kathleen defends a shy teenager who is accused of murder on Philly (ABC, 9pm).
New episode of 100 Centre Street (A&E, 9pm and 1am, will be rerun later in the week, too).
Ian McKellan on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Cuba Gooding Jr., Jewel on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Calista Flockhart, Cedric the Entertainer, Rufus Wainright on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Martha Stewart, Matthew Modine, Blink 182 on a rerun of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Chuck Norris and the Survivor winner on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
Jon Stewart, Puddle of Mud on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, check your local listings).
Denis Leary was scheduled to appear on a whole mess of shows this week to promote the return of The Job, but given the recent death of director Ted Demme (a friend of Leary’s), he may not appear on any of these shows (he wasn’t on The Tonight Show last night, for instance; originally was scheduled to be on The Late Late Show tonight and Rosie tomorrow). I’m still stunned re Demme’s death, for more on that visit my weblog.
Looks like Homicide isn’t on Court TV tonight because an extra long episode of NYPD Blue airs right before it.
