sunday
For those keeping score at home– hey, stop stalking me!– I’m still a bit under-the-weather. Also: broke. But I scraped together enough money to pay rent for December, thanks to everyone who sent some $ my way via the Paypal and Amazon Rewards links last month. And to those who sent me stuff from my wishlist, too! (Anyone have any job leads?)
Thanks to David who sent me a donation today via Paypal!
Laverne & Shirley marathon continues today (TV Land, 5am Saturday-5am Monday).
Patrick Stewart hosts Saturday Night Live (Comedy Central, 2pm) with musical guests Salt-N-Pepa. I just like hearing Stewart say “Salt-N-Pepa,” though some of the sketches are pretty good, too.
Mad TV marathon (TNN, 2pm-7pm).
Celebrities talk about The Wizard of Oz in We All Dream of Oz (TNT, 4pm). Followed by the movie itself (TNT, 5pm).
Alton Brown makes crepes on Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm). It’s more fun than it sounds! I’m making crepes while I write this. Okay, I only wish that I were.
“Buggies” episode of Junkyard Wars (TLC, 6pm).
I urge you to avoid the remake of Brian’s Song (ABC, 6pm), even if you’re a big fan of Mekhi Phifer. If you like sports tearjerkers or are wondering what people are talking about when they mention this infamous film, you should rent or buy or otherwise see the original movie. It’s available on DVD and tape and sure to air on ESPN Classic again before too long, too.
Peggy scores high on an internet IQ test, but the things turn all spanish-prisoner-y on King of the Hill (FOX, 6:30pm; may be delayed or preempted ‘cuz of football).
James Marsters guest stars on Andromeda (WGN, 7pm).
Homer is hired to write fortunes for fortune cookies on The Simpsons (FOX, 7pm).
Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Garber star in Call Me Claus (TNT, 7pm, 9pm, 11pm). A new made-for-cable holiday movie where a “cynical TV producer” is asked to replace Santa.
A group of American soldiers is trapped behind enemy lines in October 1918 in The Lost Battalion (A&E, 7pm, 9pm, 11pm, 1am). New cable movie based on a true story.
Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (AMC, 7pm, midnight).
Malcolm and his brothers have an epiphany while doing charity work on Malcolm in the Middle
(FOX, 7:30pm).
Cary Grant, Doris Day, Audrey Meadows in That Touch of Mink (TCM, 7:30pm).
A church employee is murdered and that’s just the beginning on a rerun of a good episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC, 8pm). There are three series that might be worth your time at 8pm on Sunday nights– I think Law & Order: Criminal Intent is clearly the best of the lot, followed by Alias and then The X-Files. Though I’ll allow that some weeks X-Files may be better than Alias. This week CI is a rerun, the others have new episodes.
Sloane (Ron Rifkin) goes all out to try and find the mole at SD-6 and Sydney gets way nervous (and rightly so) when asked to take a lie detector test on a new Alias (ABC, 8pm).
The agents investigate a double homicide, but of course things aren’t simple on The X-Files (FOX, 8pm). I miss Mulder. Don’t get me wrong, I like Doggett and even Reyes is growing on me. Love Scully, love Skinner. But I miss Mulder. And I miss the days when things made some sort of sense, too.
Special hour-long holiday edition of Unwrapped (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).
Matthew Modine stars in Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story (CBS, 8pm-10pm). Directed by Brian Henson. Also starring Jon Voight, Mia Sara, Daryl Hannah, Richard Attenborough, Honor Blackman, and Vanessa Redgrave.
My VH1 Awards Show ‘01 (VH1, 8pm). There’s also a pre-show at 7pm.
Some people tell me they think The Practice (ABC, 9pm) has been better this season than it has in a while. I haven’t found the time to investigate myself (what do you think? Email me).
New episode of Any Day Now (Lifetime, 9pm).
They’re toying with me, aren’t they? Tonight’s new episode of UC: Undercover (NBC, 9pm) is titled “Prison Riot” and features Jon Seda. Remember that great episode of Homicide called “Prison Riot”? Before Jon Seda showed up and ruined everything? I’m just saying, is all.
Kevin Costner on Inside The Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 9pm).
Don’t forget about Adult Swim, especially The Brak Show (Cartoon Network, 10pm) and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast (Cartoon Network, 10:28pm).
Rerun of last week’s episode of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit (USA, 10pm). A makeshift wooden sword is found next to the body of a five-year-old girl.
Rerun of the 3am-4am episode of 24 (FX, 11pm).
Chaplin at Mutual Studios Volume One (TCM, 11pm-1am). Restored Charlie Chaplin shorts.
