tuesday
Yeah, I know, these are posted later than usual again. Sorry about that. I’m still a bit under the weather.
Peter Horton stars in Brimstone (Sci-Fi, 9am-3pm). A series that was cancelled far too soon.
The fine Vietnam series Tour of Duty (TNT, 2pm) is airing again on weekday afternoons on TNT.
I know lots of grown men who cry every time they watch the “Did You See The Sunrise?” episode of Magnum, P.I. (A&E, 4pm). This is part 1 (of 2). (I usually sniffle a little bit myself, dangit, when a certain beloved character dies).
Ares, stripped of his powers, hides out on a farm with Xena and Gabrielle. Hijinks ensue. In the “Old Ares Had A Farm” episode of Xena, Warrior Princess (Oxygen, 5pm and 10pm).
“The Coming of Shadows” is one of the episodes of Babylon 5 (Sci-FI, 6pm, letterboxed) that won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation of that year (beating out a lot of cool sf movies).
A frat party goes awry in the “Reptile Boy” episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (FX, 6pm).
As I guessed they might, it sounds like Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) has now jumped ahead two or three months from when last week’s episode(s) left off. In tonight’s episode, Lorelai has a wild bachelorette party. And maybe she has second thoughts about marrying Max? We can all hope.
As if it’s not enough that she’s back from the dead (and the afterlife), Buffy’s now got to deal with paying bills and raising Dawn and all sorts of grown up stuff on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (UPN, 7pm). You know how last week I said you should find a way to watch both this and Gilmore Girls? I stand by that.
Oh no! Kitty redecorates the basement on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm).
A U.S. consolate in Indonesia is under siege and Mac is trapped there on JAG (CBS, 7pm).
Marshall gets the flu, the guys learn a bit more about fraternities on Undeclared (FOX, 7:30pm). This is a great show, too. Why must the good shows all be on opposite each other? Why?
Series premiere of Smallville (WB, 8pm). It’s about young Clark Kent and young Lex Luthor as teens in Smallville, of course. I’ve no idea if it’s gonna be any good or not, but it’s probably worth a look. I think it’s pretty idiotic having it scheduled opposite Roswell since I suspect the target audience for both is about the same.
Tonight’s episode of Roswell (UPN, 8pm) is titled “Michael, the Guys and the Great Snapple Caper.” Um, okay. In which Michael gets a second job or something. I haven’t watched last week’s episode yet, but I know lots of people online seemed less than pleased with it. Sounds like this year they’re trying to vamp it up even more than last year (a.k.a. The Year of the Leather Pants).
Or you could just watch Mysterious Ways (PAX, 8pm).
The I Love Lucy marathon continues (Nick, 8pm-midnight).
Enough people have now raved about Scrubs (NBC, 8:30pm), that I think I should mention it here. Plus tonight, the actress best known for playing Mrs. Landingham on The West Wing guest stars (and may get to play a death scene, even). It’s a sitcom. Set in a hospital. And it may even be funny.
If you’ve got to choose between the two dark haired alums of NYPD Blue featured in Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm) and Philly (ABC, 9pm), I think the edge goes to Amy. I couldn’t stick with Philly no matter how hard I tried, Delaney didn’t grab me and the other characters bored me (’cept Kyle Secor’s character, but he isn’t on much). I’m weary of Tyne Daly’s social work cases on Amy, but like the characters on that show a lot better. Though to be honest? I probably won’t be watching either, I’ll be watching a recording of Gilmore Girls or Buffy or Undeclared or something far better.
Or maybe you’ll just watch a rerun of the most recent episode of Charmed (USA, 9pm). (Wouldn’t Philly be more interested if Kim Delaney were a witch? Or if at least one character on Judging Amy was?)
Lorraine Bracco on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Jack Hanna and a bunch of animals, Justin Long, a NYC police officer on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Jet Li, Jill Hennessy, Craig David on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
This should be great: Tom Cavanaugh (of Ed), William H. Macy on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Courtney Thorne Smith, a Survivor castoff, and Tom McRae on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
“Strangers and Other Partners” is the final episode of the fifth season of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight). It’s all pretty much downhill from here, alas (with only a few exceptional episodes during the sixth and seventh seasons).
