thursday
In case you haven’t watched or seen it yet (and care), the “Soul Man” episode of Strange Frequency (VH1, 2:30pm) that features Roger Daltrey and James Marsters airs again today. Trivia: Marsters actually has a band and does both sing and play guitar in real life (I hear he even performed one gig in “Spike” makeup).
The first regular season episode of Magnum, P.I. (A&E, 4pm) after the pilot movie. If you haven’t watched the show in a while, you’ve probably forgotten how good it is. And if you never watched, well you missed a good series.
An impending wedding and a production of My Fair Lady have McMurphy (Dana Delany) and Richard (Robert Picardo) paying closer attention to the nature of their relationship on China Beach (History Channel, Noon and 6pm). Have I mentioned how much I love Robert Picardo? Forget about his (now more famous) other roles, he’s sublime on this show.
Part 1 (of 2) of the revamped version of the Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed) pilot episode. Note if you’re recording this– it runs a minute or two long (presumably because it wasn’t meant to be split in two chunks). “And so it begins.” Yeah, this is where you can jump on board if you haven’t yet watched B5 or haven’t watched it in awhile.
Behind the Scenes: Everybody Loves Raymond (E!, 6pm-7pm) is just what it sounds like.
If you’re trying to catchup with Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) by watching episodes on both Tuesday and Thursdays, things have gotta be just a little confusing. I mean, it’s not absolutely necessary to see episodes in order, but I’m sure it would help. Tonight’s rerun is a jump back in time from the rerun on Tuesday (of course), as it’s the third episode ever of the show called “Kill Me Now.” Wherein Rory goes golfing with her Grandpa (and to the surprise of everyone, gets along great with him). Have I mentioned I love this show?
I’d swear that TCM just aired Support Your Local Gunfighter (TCM, 7pm) last Thursday at this same time as part of their month long tribute to James Garner. But that’s okay as it’s a funny movie.
The rerun of Charmed (WB, 8pm) is the one with the evil ice cream man. I’ve never seen the episode, but I’ve loved describing it every time it airs in these here picks.
Jack Palance and Marla Sokoloff (of The Practice) are guest stars on a new Night Visions (FOX, 8pm). Hosted by Henry Rollins.
“The Adventure of the Clapham Cook” on Poirot (A&E, 9pm).
I just love the “Smoky” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 9:30pm).
Kevin Smith on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Brisco and Curtis visit Baltimore in the “For God and Country” episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm). And that guy who plays Dr. Skoda on Law & Order and that bad bad guy on Oz? He plays a bad guy in this Homicide-Law & Order crossover.
Whoopi Goldberg, Shannon Elizabeth, and Willa Ford on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Gina Gershon, Robert Siegel, and John Waters on a very cool rerun of Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
The 12:30am reruns of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 12:30am) have cycled back to the beginning in case you want to watch the whole run of the show (you should, it’s fabulous!). The pilot airs tonight. If you’re a West Wing fan who has never watched Sports Night, you just don’t realize how many storylines Sorkin has lifted for that show from his first series (okay, maybe you’re better off).
