thursday
“With A Little Help from My Friends” episode of China Beach (History Channel, 1pm and 6pm). Holly (Ricki Lake) learns that one of her Vietnamese friends may know a little too much about landmines and booby traps.
The fourth season finale of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed) puts the saga in a different kind of perspective. It’s also worth noting that it was filmed when they weren’t sure there would be a fifth season (the series finale was filmed right after it, but won’t air ’til after all of the fifth season episodes, of course).
Rory is stranded at her grandparents house when there’s a snowstorm, Lorelai pays a visit to Max Medina, and the townsfolk celebrate something special (again) in the “Love and War and Snow” episode of Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm). I’m in a bad mood, maybe I should watch reruns of this fabulous show, I bet they’d cheer me up.
The Longest Day (AMC, 7pm) is, arguably, the best movie about D-day.
Reunion-o-rama. Philip Michael Thomas, Tommy Chong, and . . . um. . . Meatloaf . . . all guest star on Nash Bridges (USA, 7pm).
One could watch Secrets of Forensic Science (TLC, 7pm) and follow it with a rerun of C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm).
No, it’s not a rerun. R.E.M. returns to do another episode of Unplugged (MTV, 8pm) years after they did the show the first time.
Bill Pullman, Cary Elwes, and Brian Dennehy guest star in this week’s new episode of the new anthology series Night Visions (FOX, 8pm). Hosted by Henry Rollins. Directed by Joe Dante and Bill Pullman.
Part 4 (of 4) of the Robocop: Prime Directives (Sci-Fi, 8pm-10pm; 11pm-1am) miniseries.
Great, classic courtroom dramas: Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mockingbird (TCM, 9pm); Spencer Tracy et al in Inherit the Wind (TCM, 11:30pm).
What’s not to love about the “Dear Louise” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 9:30pm)?
The best moments of The Andy Dick Show (MTV, 9:30pm). Really!
James Stewart, Grace Kelly, and Raymond Burr in Hitchcock’s Rear Window (TCM, 10pm).
Lauren Tom begins her guest stint as Emma Zoole on Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm). Things fall apart for Det. Beau Felton (Daniel Baldwin).
Some cool late night lineups tonight:
Hank Azaria on The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
Jon Favreau, Ani DiFranco on The Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Henry Rollins, and Lyle Lovett on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Billy Crystal, Tricky on Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
James Marsters, Art Bell, and Brendan Fehr guest star on Millennium (FX, midnight).
