Kathryn Hays (of As The World Turns) guest stars in “The Empath” episode of Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 4pm).

One of the reasons China Beach (History Channel, 1pm and 6pm) ranks among my favorite series ever is because the characters go through so many changes. The events (and changes) of today’s episode, “Cherry,” never fail to bring tears to my eyes.

An unprincipaled ISN reporter (imagine that!) does a story about Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed) in “The Illusion of Truth” episode. Directed by Stephen Furst.

If Kelso wants to date Jackie again, he’s going to have to take some major tests on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm). Still one of the funniest shows on the air.

Fay Wray in King Kong (AMC, 7pm).

Major Dad his own bad self (Gerald McRaney) guest stars on JAG (CBS, 7pm).

Rodney Rowland guest stars on 7 Days (UPN, 7pm).

If it’s Tuesday, it’s time for still more Law & Order reruns (TNT, 7pm and 9pm).

Think network TV is a vast wasteland during the summertime? Well last week I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the new series Go Fish (NBC, 7:30pm) and the latest new episode of Kristin (NBC, 8:30pm). I’ll admit the latter show isn’t as good as it should be, but Kristin Chenowith’s charm carries it farther than it would go ordinarily. Go Fish is actually good, so far. Darn good for a summer series.

New episode of Witchblade (TNT, 8pm and ). Yancy Butler stars.

“Marine Salvage” episode of Junkyard Wars (TLC, 8pm) followed by another installment of Robotica (TLC, 9pm).

Best Of (Food Network, 8:30pm) visits Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota and Jimmy’s in Baltimore, Maryland.

Season premiere of Resurrection Blvd. (Showtime, 9pm).

Garage Gadgets (History Channel, 9pm) is a show about the history of lawnmowers, barbecue grills, and such stuff.

There’s a love triangle on Judging Amy (CBS, 9pm) as Amy is torn between Gregory Harrison and a young karate instructor.

Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire (Bravo, 9pm, 1:30am).

Tim Bayliss (Kyle Secor) works his first case for the Homicide unit– the death of a little girl named Adena Watson (which was based on the all-too-real murder of LaTonya Wallace) in the “Ghost of a Chance” episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm). There’s also a great case involving Kay (Melissa Leo) and Beau (Daniel Baldwin) and another cool one involving Bolander (Ned Beatty) and Munch (Richard Belzer). Zeljko Ivanek makes his first appearance as Ed Danvers. Gwen Verdon and Lee Tergesen guest star. I love how there were always multiple cases going in these early episodes, some of them providing a lot of humor.

Catherine Zeta Jones, Depeche Mode on The Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Jet Li on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Shawn Wayans, Cynthia Nixon, Poe on Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).

Vin Diesel, Kristin Chenowith on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).

“The Sword of Orion” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 12:30am) should remind you of last week’s episode of The West Wing. Are Sam and Jeremy the same character? Think about the similarities . . .
