Featured Pick:
Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm) is probably my favorite TV series of all time, certainly easily my favorite drama. But the last couple of seasons of episodes were hard to take, it was difficult to watch a once glorious show slide downhill.
Some fans claim that the worst episodes of Homicide are still better than everything else or most anything else– I think those fans haven’t been watching the right other shows.
When Homicide ended after seven seasons, I was still a bit sad because I felt the series could’ve still made a comeback– and the episode that makes the strongest case for that airs tonight.
“Identity Crisis” is a gem of an episode that stands far above the rest of season seven, that harks back to the Homicide of years ago. And it’s from a new writer, too. Clearly someone who knows the show– the same show I love.
I don’t even mind Jon Seda as Paul Falsone in this episode.
Other picks and possibilities:
I love Dr. McCoy, ergo I love the Star Trek (Sci-Fi, 4pm) episode “For The World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky.” Love that title, too.
Lou Gossett, Jr. and Isaac Hayes guest star on The Rockford Files (TNN, 5pm).
Dr. Richard and McMurphy disagree about treatment of Dodger, Wayloo Marie wants a TV job in the “Women in White” episode of China Beach (History Channel, 1pm and 6pm).
“The Long Night” is an appropriate title for this particular episode of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed).
Liz Smith is profiled on a new Intimate Portraits (Lifetime, 6pm).
Choose between two four-star movies: James Cagney plays George M. Cohan in Yankee Doodle Dandy (TCM, 7pm). James Stewart and Kim Novak star in Hitchcock’s Vertigo (AMC, 7pm).
If you watched JAG (CBS, 7pm) on Tuesday, you’ll want to catch the conclusion of that two-parter tonight. And if you decide you like JAG, you could just have a big ol’ JAG-athon tonight as USA also airs episodes at 6pm, 8pm, and 9pm.
Susan Sarandon plays a soap opera diva on Friends (NBC, 7pm).
Rory and Lane go to a Chilton party, Lorelai goes to see Max Medina in “The Breakup, Part 2″ episode of Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm).
Michael Ian Black (of Ed) hosts the new reality series Spy TV (NBC, 7:30pm). I guess a hidden camera captures wacky hijinks (or something). I so want it to be like that show Phil was auditioning for on Ed. Whether it is or not, that’s how I’ll see it.
Ellen Degeneres guest stars on Will & Grace (NBC, 8pm).
They’re already rerunning the season finale of C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm). Makes no sense. I miss the days when networks would air reruns in chronological order during the summer. Made it much easier to catchup on shows you missed the first time around (or only started watching late in the game).
Part 5 (of 6) of the new documentary Hitler’s Holocaust (History Channel, 8pm and midnight).
I’d forgotten that George Clooney was a bona fide regular castmember (who appeared in the credits and everything) during seasons 7 and 8 of The Facts of Life (Nick, 8:30pm). (I thought of him as more of a recurring character, not a regular).
Parts 7 & 8 (of 8) of Gay Riviera (Bravo, 9pm and 9:30pm; midnight and 12:30am).
Richard Belzer is among the guests on a new A.J. After Hours (E!, 9pm).
“The Hungry and the Hunted” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 9:30pm).
Ewan MacGregor and Moby on a new Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm). But will Ewan sing? I want to see Ewan sing . . . (in fact, he should sing in everything, even those Star Wars movies).
Arsenio Hall. And “and nocturnal animals appear ‘Unplugged’”. What the–? On The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm). (I’m not curious enough to tune in, not when Ewan and Moby are on Letterman).
Lucy Lawless, Jon Lovitz, and Rich Hall on a new Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm). This should be a fun episode.
“Dana and the Deep Blue Sea” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 12:30am).
