Dave Nelson (Dave Foley) is hired as news director of WNYX, but first he’s got to fire the current news director on the pilot episode of NewsRadio (A&E, 11:30am and 5:30pm). One of my favorite sitcoms of all time. Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Maura Tierney, Andy Dick, Vicki Lewis, Joe Rogan, and Phil Hartman star.
“License to Steele” is the very first episode of Remington Steele (PAX, 3pm) and it airs today. Stephanie Zimbalist stars as private detective Laura Holt, who invents a fictitious detective named Remington Steele thinking it’ll help her get business. And then Pierce Brosnan shows up to play Steele . . . It’s a fun show. Doris Roberts had a supporting role later in the series, too. One of my favorite series of the ’80s.
“And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place” is one of my favorite episodes of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed) and not just ‘cuz I like the title.
Michael Boatman is a fabulous dramatic actor, something that those who only know him from Spin City might not know. Watch how good he is tonight in the “Waiting for Beckett” episode of China Beach (History Channel, 1pm and 6pm).
Harrison Ford hosts AFI’s 100 Years . . . 100 Thrills (CBS, 7pm-10pm). That’s right, it’s another special from the American Film Institute. This time their members voted on, um, thrilling movies, I guess. Methinks Mr. Ford has been in at least a few films that will make the list. The special will likely be rebroadcast on cable later on.
Red and Eric forget Kitty’s birthday on That ’70s Show (FOX, 7pm).
TNT airs two episodes of Law & Order (TNT, 7pm and 9pm) from Angie Harmon’s first season on the show.
The Love Boat (TV Land, 7pm and 8pm) is airing twice a night this week to celebrate it’s addition to the TV Land lineup.
Kristin is teased about being so straight-laced and ends up joining her co-workers for a day of massage on a new episode of Kristin (NBC, 7:30pm). To be honest, the first episode wasn’t as awful as I’d expected it to be. Kristin Chenowith is engaging, it’s just that her co-stars are pretty flat and the premise is awfully thin. But there are worse sitcoms on the air which have been picked up.
Series premiere of Witchblade (TNT, 8pm and 10pm). Yancy Butler stars in this new series based on the comic book. From the same folks who were behind the made-for-TNT movie last year.
Miss the Sci-Fi channel’s Dune (Sci-Fi, 8pm-10pm; 10pm-midnight) miniseries the first time around? You can catch it again this week. (Or just go rent or buy the DVD). They’re trying to lure Babylon 5 fans in with a promise of a preview of the new B5 series about Rangers during the show’s airing. Or at the very least, they’re giving out a “secret web address” with more info.
Rerun of the hour-long season premiere of Frasier (NBC, 8pm).
Ed (NBC, 9pm) faces off against a district attorney played by Rena Sofer when he defends a good samaritan who was putting quarters into parking meters for others.
It’s up to Notch and a hacker to save the space shuttle on a new Son of the Beach (FX, 9pm).
Tim Conway and Harvey Korman guest star on Diagnosis Murder (PAX, 9pm).
Coen Brothers Alert!
Joel and Ethan Coen are guests on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight).
“Homicide.com” is, In My Humble Opinion, an idiotic episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm), but it’s also an episode that has far-reaching consequences (which are dealt with in the series finale and in the reunion movie).
Jenna Elfman on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Part 1 (of 2) of More Tales from the City (Showtime, 11pm – 1:30am).
O Brother Alert!
Tom Brokaw, Seann William Scott, the Soggy Bottom Boys on Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, 11:35pm).
Bruce Campbell Alert!
Bruce Campbell is a guest on The Late Late Show w/ Craig Kilborn (CBS, check your local listings).
“Shoe Money Tonight!” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 12:30am).
